Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend

52,530
Comedy #5All Genres #41

After 25 years at the Late Night desk, Conan realized that the only people at his holiday party are the men and women who work for him. Over the years and despite thousands of interviews, Conan has never made a real and lasting friendship with any of his celebrity guests. So, he started a podcast to do just that. Deeper, unboundedly playful, and free from FCC regulations, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend is a weekly opportunity for Conan to hang out with the people he enjoys most and perhaps find some real friendship along the way.

Thank you for hosting the Best Guests
Love you Chill Chums! Conan has the most amazing guests on any podcast! And he lets them tell their stories without interrupting! It’s great to be able to listen, laugh and enjoy all of you. Can’t wait to see whose next!

    Love Conan but the ads…
Conan is fire as always but if they could really reduce the number of ads, that would be ideal. It feels like I have to scroll past tons and tons of ads and while Conan does his best to make the ads enjoyable and amusing, there are still just a tooooon of them.

    Warning!
If you listen to this in public, you run the risk of laughing out loud uncontrollably. Conan is hilarious and brilliant, I love his silliness. Matt and Sona are a perfect match to Conan, they are also very funny and smart. This is by far my favorite podcast, thank you for the laughs!

    Best of the Best!
Goodness gracious, this is such a good podcast. Conan is a master of comedy, and Sona and Matt are the perfect foils and funny in their own right. I love the guests, but the podcast shines when it is just the three together.

Best Episodes to date!! I love these women and to hear their stories was incredible. You definitely need to get them back on as soon as possible. Thank you for bringing their light onto your show. Truly amazing!!

Truly one of the best to ever do it. The podcasts are just more Conan being Conan with guests and great co-hosts.

Stop wasting time with Sona and Matt
Sona and Matt are fine people but they’re not professional entertainers. I find myself skipping over parts where it’s just Conan talking to them. Probably a nice move Conan is doing since I’m sure those two put a good amount of work into making the show, so naturally they deserve some “air time” but it’s bad and not worth listening too. Sadly it’s near 1/4 of the time for your average episode. Guests and host: 10/10 Everything else: 1/10 at best considering the 100 million other podcasts out there to compare to

    The best in the business
Conan and his team are hilarious and are a relief in this crazy world.

    One of the best
I listen to a lot of podcasts, many are more informational than entertainment. But Conan’s is the most fun, by far. It’s also the only one I don’t fast forward through the commercials

    Love it
Conan, Sona, Matt, I love the podcast & everything about it! Sona, your laugh is the icing on the cake! Conan, I’ve been a fan of your comedy since the beginning of Late Night & you never disappoint. This podcast & your comedy in general had helped me get through some depressing times over the years. Thank you. I’ve been a devout listener since day one & especially love the Summer S’mores series. I can’t wait for this summer’s episodes. Keep us laughing!!!!

The only podcast I listen to!
Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend is an absolute delight! Conan, Sona, and Matt's chemistry is off the charts, making every episode a laugh-out-loud experience. Their banter is effortlessly hilarious, and you'll find yourself eagerly awaiting each new installment. If you're a fan of comedy and great conversations, this podcast is a must-listen!

My husband and I listen to Conan on every single long road trip. It’s the best! It keeps him from complaining about my driving.

    Enough about you
Hey Conan. Perhaps you could consider letting your guests talk without interrupting them and talking ad nauseam about yourself. I just listened to you ‘ interview’ with Bowen Yang. You talked the whole time. Please have Bowen back and let him speak. Conan. You are SO insecure. Just listened to your show with Liam Neeson. You were so uncomfortable. Stop fake laughing. You do it a lot but way more when you are uncomfortable. Just be uncomfortable and don’t fake laugh. It’s a few months later and I’m writing about your podcast Conan Needs a Fan. It’s ALL ads. There is very little time talking to the fan. Do you need THAT much more money?

My only complaint: needs a non-villain Rolf
I love this podcast and often listen to it while picking up dog poop as a volunteer trail patroller in Colorado. My only complaint is that Conan named his “Hans and Frans Movie” villain Rolf. Why, oh why, is “Rolf” always a villain’s name? First “The Sound of Music” and now this! I would love to be a fan guest someday, so that Conan and his team can learn that there are reasonably nice Rolfs out there too. - Good Guy Rolf in Colorado

    Best podcast out there
Raw, unfiltered, podcast Conan is way better than TV Conan. And TV Conan was my favorite variety show since my parents started letting me stay up late in the ‘90s. Conan is the Johnny Carson of our time: making people of all ages laugh and feel in on the gag, when talking with guests ranging from the older generation of Bob Newhart and Carole Burnett, to the A List du jour, to random civilians around the world. Speaking of the Carole Burnett episode, quick question. How you did tell Conan and Ms. Burnett apart in the studio? Did they have to wear name tags?

    Interesting and hilarious
I love the way Conan's brain works.

    Conan please let guests talk
I love Conan but I have to say this, Conan please ask your question and try to listen to answer. He is constantly cutting his guests with his stories and never goes back to guests to finish their answers.
  • 1jence
    Hmmmm not sure??
I have been a fan of Conan for a long time. However not sure about the podcast. I haven’t listened to a lot but the ones I have listened to it was to hear from a specific guest’s. With that in mind I’m a bit disappointed. Is this Conan doing his comedy? Or letting his guests do comedy? Yes, Conan is funny but when I tune in for a specific guest I want to hear more from them. If your going to have comedic guests on the show-please more from the guest and less of Conan.

    The louse who roared!
On the lam, over-span, flash in the pan, total bust, can’t pay attention ‘cause I’m on that dust — if and when, depending upon and from none other than a raving, engulfed baboon — I’ve misplaced the key to the strong box of my Elvis memorabilia and, GOOD GOD!! — I don’t know what to do!! Whatever I do — it’s got to be FUNKY! Drive through the night! Orange man bad!

    Love
I love everything about this podcast. I listen every Monday on my way to work. 95% of the time it’s hilarious with the back and forth with the guest and the chemistry between Conan and his team, and the other 5% will be one of the informative podcasts, still with the funny dialogue in the beginning. I’ve been a Conan fan since his beginning, he is SO quick and along with his self deprecating humor, he is a treasure.

    Pumping Iron with Conan
I listen to this hilarious podcast every morning while I lift weights. I love smiling and laughing while I lift and Conan definitely does just that. Thanks for the podcast folks.

    Embarrassingly Funny
Zipping through the Sirius XM channels one day and I find the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend Podcast. They were reenacting a made up scene with Werner Herzog and Honey Boo Boo. My God, Sona silent laughing and then trying to make sounds of footsteps had me crying in the car. I literally went into a Kwik Trip and someone asked me if I was okay. Keep it up guys!

    Conan O’Brien Reads an Ad
This is one of the best versions of a Conan O’Brien podcast I could imagine. I really love his discussions with guests and the banter among guests. One of the few podcasts that actually makes me laugh out loud. The only downsides for me are that Conan can be a bit overwhelming which leads me to listen to only one episode every so often. The second downside is the amount of advertising; I know most podcasts include advertising but this one feels especially weighed down with it. If you like Conan, you’ll probably love this podcast.

Melinda French Gates, Need I Say More …?
Not a late night person, so really unfamiliar prior to hearing this ( referring to Melinda French Gates episode). But wow,a really fun learning experience. Inspiring and made me laugh. Also, what’s with letting the church run the state ? Thanks

    Doing gods work
I wasn’t really a podcast person in the past. I dabbled here and there with certain podcasts but it never really stuck….until Conan. Massive fan of him and everything he does, so it’s no surprise he converted me into a podcast person. I found myself coming back more and more and it’s one of things for me, where it keeps my happiness going. I tend to struggle with my view on the world and a lot of the time, humanity feels hopeless. So how I cope, is by listening to comedians and things that make me feel good all day while I work, instead of listening to the news or doom scrolling. And I found that not only Conan as an individual, but this podcast helps keep me in a better day to day mood and I’m forever grateful for it, for him, for Sona and Matt, and all the peeps that work hard on producing this podcast. Big thank you. You guys are doing more good than you may even realize.

    Absolutely love this show!
I’ve been a Conan fan for the last 29 years (I was 13 when I discovered him!) and this podcast is exactly what you need if you love Conan and miss the old late night show. The ads are hilarious, the cohosts are so lovable. Sona is an absolute doll and Matt is the awkward silly sidekick and David is so freaking adorable I could die. I love how they play off each other so well and give Conan a taste of his own medicine sometimes lol. I spotted Matt Gourley in an episode of Behind the Monsters on Shudder and discovered another podcast that I love, With Gourley and Rust. I definitely recommend both shows.

I’m sorry for what you just heard.
First of all, I’d like to apologize. Let me explain. My name is Tim and I’m a time traveler. You still with me? My job is to go through time and record historic events. Here’s the problem. My on board computer is tethered to Conan’s brain. From time to time, my computer will shoot off snippets of random historic information into Conan’s brain and he can’t help but vomit them out. Randomly, and relentlessly, at some point, Conan will bring up Tova Borgnine and Ernest. Poseidon Adventure characters and names of World War I German tanks or that For more than 40 years Willie Nelson has been playing a Martin N-20 nylon-string acoustic guitar named "Trigger," or how Alexander the Great was accidentally buried alive. maybe that Napoleon Bonaparte was once attacked by a horde of bunnies! and that George Washington opened a whiskey distillery after his presidency. He will definitely talk about how President Zachary Taylor died from a cherry overdose! or that Andrew Jackson had a pet parrot. Also, Winston Churchill typically smoked eight to ten cigars a day, sometimes as many as fifteen. and that During World War II, Americans called hamburgers “liberty steaks.” (takes a breath) Thomas Edison didn’t invent most of the stuff he patented and Eisenhower’s secretary of defense was Charles Erwin Wilson. By the way, I traveled back to October 13, 1983 in Armenia, I checked every Moses Basket floating by and Hummus factory and so far, have found no signs of Sona’s birth. Will keep looking. I also made to 1962 Palisodes Kingston, Jamaica. The set of the first James Bond movie, “Dr. No” and was able to obtain a book of matches used by Sean Connery, the first James bond. I sent them to Gourley for his birthday but, sadly, the package was lost in the mail. As of this writing, there is an investigation taking place. Sorry, Matt. Gleefully sorrowful, Tim the Time Traveler aka TTTT

    Funny and varied. Often hilarious.
Some idiot left a review that it’s becoming a sitcom. That’s nonsensical. It’s not. In. Any. Way.
  • AnchYou
    Too many commercials.
The episode was 17 min long and then the commercials were added to it and became 25 minutes which means you have 8 minutes of commercials? So unnecessarily greedy for a bunch of millionaires.
  • super not great
    Visual Variety Show.. hmm
Well.. now it’s just a morning show? Bummer. The stars were the three+. It’s getting dangerously close to sitcom

    Meh
I just don’t find Conan funny. He’s more annoying than anything and interrupts his guests quite a bit. There is also a lot of the podcast that is with his crew without his guest(s). I want to hear the interview, not them riffing half the time. A lot of ads too compared to other podcasts.

    What an inspiration
Thank you, Conan and your talented team, for interviewing Melinda French Gates. I knew she was a well-respected philanthropist, but had never taken the opportunity to learn about her before. Wow. Thank you, Ms. French Gates, for your generosity and your women-helping-women focus. I am always considering ways to give back locally, but without actually doing anything. This episode is the nudge I’ve needed. One last thing - I am not nearly in your league, but mad respect from one lady math nerd to another. :)

There is no “I” in needy
I had gotten into this podcast very late and had ignored it for whatever reason, most likely due to limited driving time. Now that I travel to NH from MA quite often, I have been a steady listener and have a huge inventory to listen too and binge each trip. This is very entertaining and for the least likely reasons, topics, or guests. Love it. I tend to understand where Conan is coming and his references from having grown up in the same time, Catholic, outside of Boston. In baseball terms, I feel, a good number of jocularity hits even though my at bats are really high. I have enough friends but might let Conan in. Matt is really a spark for Conan’s rabbit holes and is really funny. Sona is a perfect string for Conan’s helium balloon on a windy day. Important note: I have Siri using a female Australian accent and if I ever say anything or ask a question I find to be amusing, I swear I can hear a little break or chuckle in her voice. Conezie should try it.

Please let your guest finish their thoughts!
UPDATE: I unsubscribed for a while, hoping Conan would become a better conversationalist. No luck. Today I tuned back in because one of my favs Chelsea Peretti was on. Unfortunately she didn't get to say much. Conan asks a question, then rushes ahead to answer for himself. I love Conan's humor, but he seems too need to hog the spotlight. Is he on something? Both celebrity and fan guests - before they can finish what they are saying… Conan has to grab the ball and run away talking about himself, his experiences, and what he thinks.

    "Take it away, Jimmy"
You'll get your 5th star back when you return to the old "take it away Jimmy." I like what I like. None of this unpretentious genuine guileless tonal cheerfulness, I listen to the credits for my weekly hit of full-tweed Ghourley.

If you need a GREAT laugh… this is your podcast.
I have been a Conan O’Brien fan for decades at this point, but for some reason I’m just discovering this podcast of his (and Sona Movsesian’s and Matt Gourley’s truth be told). This podcast had become one of my go to listening habits in recent weeks and months. You know how you have a tendency to circle back repeatedly to a show and to just be comforted by it? I LOVE that feeling, and this podcast has given me that feeling maybe more than any other show I’ve ever listened to before. No offense to either; Howard Stern, nor Terry Gross who are my ABSOLUTE favorites. The conversations are fantastic, and Conan is clearly both; engaged, and really enjoying himself with this show. Listening to his laugh is one of the great joys of the show. Conan’s laugh is infectious and truly joyous, and hearing it keeps me tuning in. And for the record (at least among the earliest shows which I’m listening to in chronological order from the beginning), Bob Newhart beyond all other guests at the beginning of the show absolutely MURDERS it. He DESTROYS the room (and Conan to a lesser degree), and that particular show is absolute comedic magic. Thanks for doing the show, and keep ‘em coming.

My friends are tired of hearing about this podcast
I love you all, so much! My friends and coworkers are tired of me telling them about all of your shenanigans, but they do seem to enjoy the random facts I share from your oversized male anatomy quizzes. No of them knew that kangaroos have three vaginas, either. Anyway, the 3 Questions episode was special for me because I am also a librarian, and I know exactly which book Conan was remembering. It’s called The Three Robbers, by Tomi Ungerer, who was a treasure and very much worth reading up on if you’re unfamiliar. There’s a documentary about him called Far Out Isn’t Far Enough I highly recommend, too. Thanks for doing what you do 😘

This podcast is very funny occasionally! Conan is just really really funny ! That being said , once he starts down the political road it just becomes unfunny . No one wants to hear the liberal politics and viewpoints of Hollywood types . They are the same folks that are ruining this country .
