Ariannepr19Great tool for every level!I prefer when it was just Hugo but I get it that the brand has grown and he needed to bring new people to the team. I keep listening to the old episodes. I love the variety of topics covered and how we get to learn about the French culture and their struggles as a society. Sometimes we idealized the country cause we love it so much but it is good to learn about their struggles and challenges.

JJP1974The best podcast for intermediate French learnersThis is the best French learning podcast if you are an intermediate French learner. It is very hard to find a good podcast for intermediate learners. Most podcasts are aimed for beginners. They talk too slow! But Inner French is perfect. Hugo and Ingrid talk at the perfect speed, the topics are super interesting and allow listeners to understand French culture and society more deeply. As an intermediate level learner, I can always learn a few new vocabularies without being overwhelmed and feeling frustrated. The transcripts are the BEST part of the podcast. So much work and thought go into the podcasts. Thank you!!!! (I should write this review in french but I’m lazy…. Maybe next time!)

EurytopicGenuinely interesting topics with clear dictionI lived in a France many years ago and since I left, I’ve kept up my language skills by listening to podcasts, news, etc. In over 10 years, I have never found a podcast as interesting as this one. Hugo discusses questions that are genuinely interesting about French culture, history, and language. He seems to understand that just because our language skills are rudimentary, our intellectual skills are not. He never dumbs down his topics. Rather than relying on stereotypes, he often “unpacks” them, exploring their origins and discussing the way French people relate to them today. All of this amounts to a podcast that gives the listener a window into the real culture of contemporary France.

SabiGabiVery clear, good dictionI love the fact that the narrators repeat the street French phrases several times after the first explanation of the phrase. Very good topics! Thank you sooo much for keeping my French alive.

Merci encore

NJHAJBEILove the PodcastsI started listening to Hugo about 2 years ago and absolutely love his podcasts. I started with number 1. I was thrilled because I understood everything he said. I must admit that as time went on it became more difficult as he increased his speed. I am struggling a bit now, especially when he talks with Anna and Ingrid, but I can understand the text. Always has interesting topics and I always look forward to the next podcast! Gayle USA

Yue-FunOne Stone Two BirdsI had discovered this podcast during the pandemic lockdown, and have wanted to leave a review on my android device, but without success. Now I have acquired a small IPOD and am finally able to write a review that the creator so very much deserves. I have been learning French on and off on my own for quite a few years, but was never able to understand the spoken French. This Podcast finally bridges that gap, because all the episodes were spoken with such clarity, calm voice, perfect tempo, plus very useful day -to-day vocabulary. On top of the aforementioned helpful attributes, the subjects of the content were all very interestingand extremely well researched. That means not only the listeners can improve their listening comprehension skill, but also broaden their knowledge about many different subjects and contemporary issues. In addition, Hugo seems to be a person with a very healthy and well balanced view of the world and life, completely devoid of any stereotypical character traits of French people. I can only guess that it’s a result of a very good upbringing. The podcast format has changed last year from a monologue to a conversation style with Ingrid. Even though it’s still good, I still prefer the original format recited by Hugo himself. I hope he will at least alternate the monologue with the conversation with Ingrid. Anyway, I highly recommend this language learning podcast. Great job!!!

Merci bien!

Kris PinaToo politicalIt’s a shame that this podcast is so political and that it is used as much to push the hosts’ opinions as it is to help people learn French. If you are more middle of the road or conservative leaning, you might look for a more neutral podcast!
-
LulaFlamnHigher LearningIt is so gratifying to be able to (largely!) understand an entire podcast of highly interesting and engaging content about a fascinating culture in a language I’m working to learn. Cheers to Hugo and Team for the clarity and thoughtfulness of your approach to language learning.

Francois TruffautfautExcellent for learning French!I just discovered this podcast recently and am up to the 16th episode. I look forward to going through them all! The podcast are very interesting and completely hold my attention. It makes learning French fun and engaging. It doesn’t feel like a burden having to do my French lesson for the day but I actually look forward to it each day and can already feel myself improving for becoming better with the language. Thank you so much Hugo for this podcast!

User3789Such a great podcastIt is such a great feeling to listen to this podcast and understand spoken French for the first time. This is the perfect step to train the ear to understand. Hugo please keep the episodes coming!!

This is the first episode of InnerFrench I've listened to. Absolutely compelling story about someone who might be called America's Trump minus the political ambitions. I learned a ton of new phrases and got an insight into the world of luxe in France that I've never had access to before.

Azalea isExactly what I was looking for! This podcast is absolutely perfect to help me move beyond advanced beginner/early intermediate . As Hugo says in the first episode, most resources are designed for truly beginners and are way too easy, but podcasts etc for native speakers are too advanced and too fast. This hits the sweet spot. Love it!
-
LeSingeSavant88Best podcast to learn French, by farinnerFrench is a godsend for French learners. If you studied French in school but still can't understand a word of fast, spoken French, you'll immediately be amazed by how well you can understand Hugo. Not only is he the most comprehensible French speaker ever, he also chooses interesting topics and is an excellent teacher, pausing to explain potentially unfamiliar words or expressions. I'd suggest starting with the first episode and work your way up to the more recent ones. Listen to each at least twice. The older ones are a bit slower and later, a couple co-hosts join the podcast. They are also excellent, but not quite as clear as Hugo. (As I said, he is the easiest French person to understand ever.) And the transcripts are available for free. I would credit this podcast as the main resource that helped me go from mid-beginner to advanced-intermediate, capable of understanding French content made for natives.

This is a perfect podcast to help you improve your French!

jedi_nickieMy Breakthrough Podcast in FrenchHugo captured my imagination with wonderful stories he always comes up with spot-on, and — most importantly — for the first time I needed no explanation in other languages I speak. The first one I listened to game a high to the seventh heaven. I picked up everything he talked and as I go on started incorporating his ideas with things I was already doing to sharpen my French.

YesiD27Time To Remove The Subtitles! For French Learners Of Any Level!Hugo has a deep understanding of language learning and he applies this knowledge to every session of his podcast. By far, this has been the absolute best one for me! I always used English subtitles when watching French movies and shows but since I started listening to this podcast I dared to removed the subtitles and couldn’t believe myself at how much I understood! I feel lucky and grateful after having ventured into the endless sea of podcasts out there to have come across this one. Hugo, my sincere thanks. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say you have truly improved French learning with this medium!

Innerfrench podcastsInnerFrenchThis is unlike anything else I’ve tried in French. I am able to understand most of the episodes without following along with the transcript. Hugo does a very good job of articulating, choosing subjects of interest and speaking at a pace that is easy to digest. And you always have the transcript if you need it. Highly recommend.

Slick SalmonFirst rateThese podcasts are a real gift to intermediate-level French students, particularly the early episodes at the A2 level. There is very little content out in the world at this level. The podcasts are not only perfectly targeted, the content is interesting and I learned a lot by listening to them. The accompanying transcripts are invaluable. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
-
Zachary-ChazExcellent for Language LearnersThis podcast is geared toward intermediate French learners and hits the head exactly. I listen to this podcast often and my French comprehension and listening skills have increased a lot because of it. This is the best intermediate French podcast out there so if you’re looking for something to listen to in French, this is it. Merci beaucoup, Hugo!

Profe RitaAmazing resourceI adore this podcast. I am a Spanish teacher using the same method of content-based language teaching with my students. Getting my own dose of comprehensible input in a new language helps me to confirm the effectiveness of this method. Hugo is intelligent, engaging and inspiring. I feel my French proficiency grow with each episode. Merci Hugo!

I. Like HuntGreat Intermediate Level French Learning PodcastThis podcast will help you advance from an intermediate level of French comprehension to an advanced level, by the immersion method, not by the boring method of memorizing grammatical rules. When you get bored with Duolingo, as everyone does, after several months, use this podcast to continue to improve you ability to understand French.
-
rubystephExactly what I was looking for in a French podcast!I want to practice the language as much as possible and not living in a francophone country can make this tricky. As a language teacher, I am always recommending podcasts to immerse yourself in the target language. Hugo is hands down the best! So glad I saw his video with Damon Dominique on YouTube last year. Thank you so much for your hard work!
-
Jeremy90066Great podcastI highly recommend this podcast as well the Innerfrench YouTube channels and their courses. I give a lot of credit for my ability to maintain and improve my French to this podcast.

-
Michele1701Best Podcast for intermediate French skill level!I love Hugo’s podcast! He always comes up with interesting topics and he keeps it light and fun, yet very informative. Hugo is very pleasant to listen to and speaks very clear and not too fast which really helps when learning a language. I also appreciate that he offers transcripts for every episode. It’s super helpful! I love how he explains specific idioms that he uses during the podcast. You can tell he puts a lot of thought into every episode. He’s a phenomenal teacher and very empathetic towards his students/ listeners needs. Way to go! Merci beaucoup, Hugo! :)

ClaudiaalrJe l’aime!!I found this podcast to practice my rusty French and I love it!! Like the author says at the beginning, it’s hard to find something for intermediate “speakers” and this is just perfect. It really motivates me to continue and his topics are very interesting.

žxxMy Number One Tool…This podcast has been my number one tool for refreshing my long-disused schoolgirl French in preparation for a writing residency in Paris. The episodes are short enough and enjoyable enough to build into a lazy person’s routine—for me, they go with breakfast—and have over time added up to making me able to listen just last night to an episode of The Wheel of Time in French and understand most of it. Thank you, Hugo!
-
-
aivilrosstrAmazing!I listen to an episode everytime I bike to work. I love it. I appreciate the clarity of the spoken French, so I can understand (4 years of public school French only go so far). Interesting topics too!! 11/10 recommend.
