Happier with Gretchen Rubin

Gretchen Rubin is HAPPIER, and she wants you to be happier too. The #1 bestselling author of The Happiness Project and Better Than Before gets more personal than ever as she brings her practical, manageable advice about happiness and good habits to this lively, thought-provoking podcast. Gretchen’s cohost and guinea pig is her younger sister, Elizabeth Craft, a TV writer and producer living in Los Angeles, who (lovingly) refers to Gretchen as her happiness bully. Great tactical suggestions
I love the different suggestions from big to small that I can apply daily. And loved the note in the latest episode about the person who is leaving positive feedback for a podcast or book or something each day. What a wonderful reminder to put food energy out in the world! Inspired me!

One of my Top 3 - never miss an episode
I adore Gretchen and Elizabeth - I feel like we’re friends. I’ve learned so much from them! Sometimes Gretchen’s energy exhausts me, and I certainly don’t try everything they suggest, but their hacks and “try this at homes” have indeed helped me to be happier, healthier, more productive, and more creative.

Like listening to friends-my favorite podcast
I love listening to Gretchen & Elizabeth. Your closeness is evident & it’s so enjoyable to feel included in your conversations. I’ve learned so many great tips. Please help with my dilemma that you mentioned in your latest podcast. It’s tough to clear “clutter“ because of LOVE. Now that I know the problem, I hope you can help with solutions lol.

    …Happier Still
I so appreciate these two very different sisters, who are so supportive in spending time together, letting us get a glimpse of their lives through their genuine conversations and sharing the aha moments and listener suggestions. I started listening a couple of years ago and sometimes go back and binge older episodes that I never heard. As I listened today to the Five Love Languages episode from 2016 it really struck me how far you’ve come in self awareness and improved relationships. I cheer you on with each revelation! (How’s that for words of affirmation?!) Thank you!

    Postpartum late night company!
I first discovered Gretchen years ago when I was in the throes of early motherhood and my husband was often traveling for work. It was lonely at night once my son was asleep and I needed some company while tidying the house, emptying out the stroller, pumping, washing bottles etc. A friend had suggested listening to audio books and I started with The Happiness Project. Now here I am with our second son, having listened to all of Gretchen’s books but not the podcast! What fun it has been during the late night glider hours to listen to Gretchen and Liz. It makes me feel productive just listening - especially during a time when my hands are busy with baby life. I am more “Kate” than ever, I’ve done my 24 for 24 list and I even started a book club here with other mom friends! Thank you for the motivation to be me, the tips, the laughs and the company when everyone else is sleeping.

Help for life, love, happiness and beyond!
I first read The Happiness Project when I lived in NYC and I loved the easy, no stress approach! I came to the podcast late, but I absolutely love the same easy, no stress ideas and hints/hacks to help with every aspect of life: parenting, relationships, travel, hobbies, holidays! I regularly implement ideas from the show and the yearly “24 in 24” list is my absolute favorite. I make my family do all the quizzes and I am constantly recommending the podcast, along with the Four Tendencies framework, to everyone. Thank you Gretchen and Liz for the inspiration; I love your relationship and it’s fun to listen to you both every week!

    Life Changing
This podcast has had such a big impact on my life - I even created a spinoff podcast to discuss and debrief each episode with my sister! If you’re looking for practical, whimsical, timely advice to help you be more happy and more productive, this podcast could be the game changer you’ve been looking for.

Making me Happier for 9 years!!!
Why have I never reviewed this amazing podcast?!? I have listened every week since the first year, and i get a jolt of joy every time I see a new episode. The hosts are fantastic and I have gotten so many ipa to make my life happier over the years. Highly recommend!! Bonus: the content tends to be pretty classic and not time bound so it’s one you could start anytime and back episodes would still be very relevant!

I Listen to Every Commercial :/
I wish I could offer 5 stars for content and 1 star for "listenability." The show brings great tips, hacks, and information HOWEVER I not only listen to but deeply appreciate every commercial. The reason? It's almost the ONLY time Elizabeth can speak a complete, coherent thought / statement without Gretchen's irritating interjections. As a Mental Health provider, I understand and appreciate the concept of offering "minimal encouragers" to a speaker but (in a therapy setting) Gretchen would overbearingly dominate and overwhelm the session. Since Elizabeth (and various guests) obviously desire to share information AND this is not a visual media (where a nod would be a minimal encourager) the constant comments are unnecessary; my finger has hovered over the 'unfollow' option on many occasions.

    Helpful advice
I’m a long time listener and have enjoyed this podcast and all the tips and hacks for living a better life. I often listen while exercising or driving so I wish the show notes were a little more robust, I often forget something I want to try. And while I think Gretchen offers many interesting products it does feel a bit too self promotional with all the journals and app tools.

    Making Me Happier
I love this podcast. I first discovered it 2 years ago and have listened every week since. I appreciate the structured approach while it also doesn’t feel too stiff/ routine. I’ve incorporated so many of the concepts talked about but the mere act of listening to this podcast brings me a sense of peace and contentment as well.
  • inderground mimer
    Full of self promotion
At the creation of Happier, the podcast brought novel ideas, and it felt very engaging and useful. Now it feels like self-promotion. Gretchen does a lot of “advertising” for her products. The subject matter has downshifted from occasionally wise to often trite. Maybe too much of a good thing?

I learn something in every episode
The hosts are smart and positive and offer actionable ideas on everything from relationships to home organizing to fun. I look forward to every episode and am usually inspired to make my life better.

    So helpful
I discovered this podcast about a year ago and I actually went back and listened to every episode. That took a lot of time, but it was worth it. I’ve learned a lot of excellent tips for how to maintain good habits, how to incorporate outer accountability, and small ways to boost happiness. Very easy to incorporate incorporate such great advice.

Beloved podcast; ads are part of life
I have been listening since episode 15, and while my interest waxes and wanes depending on what’s going on in my own life, I feel like the podcast has always been consistent. People complain about the uptick in ads, but the ads are fewer than traditional radio would have, and there’s a skip button available. Besides, the show has to pay for itself somehow. I also don’t mind Gretchen promoting her products and tools—-this is her podcast for people who value her work, so promoting to that audience makes sense, and I was surprised to find that others felt it was too much. I think too many people give 1-star reviews to podcasts that just aren’t for them. I think the podcast meets its own goals well, and I really enjoy it. Gretchen and Liz feel like friends who have very different lives from me, but it’s neat to get a glimpse.

    Can’t get enough of HAPPIER!
I absolutely love this podcast! I used to listen to a few different happiness-related podcasts and once I found Happier, it’s become my one and only fave! Listening to sisters Gretchen and Elizabeth is so enjoyable, they are so warm and relatable. Each episode provides the most useful, fun and manageable hacks for happiness- currently going back and listening to the full catalogue of available episodes. I’m a full Happier podcast convert and am looking forward to my 24 for 2024 list and one-word theme for 2024!

5 senses journal for my 2-4 2024 writing
This podcast helps me to keep growing and learning. I love living in an atmosphere of growth. I’m excited to focus more on the 5 senses and am using this year’s challenge and the journal to work on my goal. A dear friend sent me 5 senses gifts for my birthday, so creative. Thank you Gretchen for broadening my focus.

    Unhappier :(
I have been a listener for many years - since the beginning. I’ve called in to share our non-traditional Christmas Eve tradition and been to see Gretchen in Boston. For the past 1-2 years, this podcast has progressively turned into an unceasing promotion for Gretchen’s new paid platform and books. WE are your super fans - believe me, we know you have a book coming out. The holiday promotions are too much - this podcast no longer makes me happier, which makes me super sad because it was a highlight of my week for many years.

The whole reason I got into Podcasts!
I think I got into this podcast shortly before Covid hit, and then binging on it during the pandemic was really helpful for my mental health. Nowadays, Liz and Gretchen feel like friends! I think of and quote their content on a weekly basis, I’m sure.

    sitting right there with them
I have been listening to Gretchin and Elizabeth for years. The Happier podcast is refreshing with many ideas on how to make life happier, fulfilling, funny, efficient, etc. The sisters both have great voices and you feel like you're sitting there with them, drinking coffee. I love the "Little Happier", too!

    Consistently interesting and helpful!
I listen to tons of podcasts, and this is one of the few that I keep coming back to after hundreds of episodes. It’s given me both practical, doable tips and bigger life-changing ideas over the years. If Gretchen and Liz were in a play, they’d be the big sister and best friend who made everything a little better. I am always happier when this shows up in my feed.
