If you are looking for a podcast about American civics, keep looking. Civics is the study of government structure, constitutional underpinnings and legal systems. Knowledge of the powers government has and those it doesn’t, is essential to American citizenship. So is knowing when your rights are being violated. This pod thinks civics is social studies/history. It lumbers through even those topics in a boring, condescending way. The two episodes I listened to interviewed the same person twice and half of it was an exact repeat of material covered in the first. I’m deeply disappointed, because a real pod about civics is sorely needed.

I just discovered this show and it’s been the show I’ve been looking for!! It is so factual, modern, not left or right, blue or red. Plain facts. I love learning about what helped form and shape our country into what it is, and all the little details that got us here. The little details no one really thinks about. Keep up the great work and make the episodes longer!

I like that they try to be fair and present both sides of an issue in good faith. But there are some issues. For example in the latest episode about campaign promises from Biden and Trump, they discussed Biden’s promises around reproductive rights and DIDN'T MENTION TRUMP’s STANCE at all. Isn’t that pretty important information? Why was that completely skipped??

I'm an 85 year old woman who thought I knew my way around our country's constitution. WRONG !!! I can't tell you how appreciative I am of your program. I've been generally conservative but not nutty about it...have usually found myself voting for moral laws and personal integrity of candidates. However, after Jan. 6, all cards were on the table and after living through WW2 (Dad fought in WW1, brothers in WW2) I knew a fascist wannabe when I saw it. I just needed to dive deeper into the Constitution. Thank you for that. Your programs are concise, intelligent and short enough to hold my old brain's interest. Keep it up, you wonderful young people. I've passed on your podcast info to my grandchildren. Embarrassingly, my kidlets usually say,"Grandma Sue, we know that stuff". I really hope so..... Sue Donohoe Plano, Texas ....(God help us down here).

For those who question how deep they go into a subject, remember this is a “100 level course”. It is meant to be an introduction to a topic. This podcast nails it perfectly. In addition, far to many voters do not understand how the government works. This podcast helps educate voters on what politicians can and cannot accomplish on their own while in office

The show’s hosts are entertaining and tell great stories about American civics, government and legal theories. However, it’s clear they are biased against conservatives. They are subtle about it oftentimes omitting key facts that would highlight how democrats are as nefarious as republicans in certain civil matters. Oh well. I expect it coming from NPR. Nonetheless it’s a good podcast.

These two people go together like peas and carrots. They do their research and present the information in clear and timely ways. I never miss a new podcast and I enjoy every minute of these episodes while learning so much. And yes, I support the station just because of this podcast. Checkout the website!!

The danger with most good propaganda is that it contains some truthful elements. This podcast is no exception. It cherry picks what facts to highlight and which to ignore or deny. The 2nd Amendment episode is a prime example. It ignores the Magna Carta which is a progenitor of the Amendment, as well as writings on the subject by the Framers. I can also do without the 2nd grade reading rainbow voices but I guess it is aimed at simpletons

It’s so timely to share how government works, and how it’s meant to work. Two naturally very funny hosts draw out the humor already there in our history of peculiar characters and evolved systems, paired with the how and why instead of just the - snore - what and when. There’s plenty of dry reading on these topics out there but here’s where you might, instead, have your interest sparked and civic action inspired.

Another wing biased show purporting to be educational.

Since Civics was dropped from school curriculum and ignored. As Justice O’Connor stated over many years, she was amazed and saddened by the amount of ignorance she met. She devised a Civics lecture series to address the many, many problems because of the lack of education or misconceptions regarding HOW we were to live in a American democracy. Thank you for teaching the BASICS OF OUR LAWS AND GOVERANCE .

Anyone who thinks this isn’t just another news show peddling a narrative has bought into the narrative. Most of the opinions lead in a democrat national committee talking point direction. Write me off as a Trump supporter, which I am not, to dismiss an opposing point of view. I’m a college educated with degree in political science and another in public administration. I was actually taught how things function and act in a world where elected politicians manage government employees. That’s civics with out political opinion injected. It’s simply the mechanics of how a government functions. It’s pretty boring to most but I enjoy it.

It is so condescending to think your listening audience can’t understand this fantastic information without the Reading Rainbow sound effects, musical interjections and over the top enunciation by the two hosts. I find it incredibly distracting.

This podcast makes learning about all the different topics they go through so easy. I don’t worry about learning or taking information down, I just listen to the stories and it all comes with it. Great way to do a podcast. Keep killing it guys!

I love their style of teaching Civics

Not only do you learn a lot from this show, it's really well made, and the hosts' conversational style really works. As a podcast guy, I know firsthand how hard it is to make that work well, while still telling a compelling narrative with audio interviews. I'm super impressed.

Generally a fan of the show, but the most recent episode on isms was patently biased

This podcast used to be great but has gone way downhill the last couple of years. It went from a fact-based, informative show on the workings of government aimed at middle & high-schoolers to a much more biased take on issues that only presents one side and uses the trendy language of those in academia. This show is well past it’s prime and I am looking for a new podcast that gets back to the basics of government and politics heading into the 2024 election cycle.

I am a huge consumer of podcast content and Civics 101 consistently stays as my favorite to listen to. It is perfect for my recreational love of government and politics, and Nick and Hannah are fun and engaging. I am always looking forward to the next episode, and consistently re-listen to past episodes. Great show, keep up the strong work!

Great podcast concept and well put together. Some of the episodes are excellent and very educational. The issue I have is that it bills itself as an educational/fact based podcast but exhibits extreme bias and in some case false information that supports a narrative.

This is the podcast I have always wanted but couldn’t seem to find. It is amazing what we do not know but assume that we do.

It’s a well done podcast, but the amount of bias brings educational value into question. You would think that a civics/history podcast would fairly represent both sides.

Hannah and Nick are fabulous hosts. I’ve been listening to and enjoying this podcast for quite a while. I totally trust the information presented by them and in this current environment, that’s saying a lot. Today I’ve become a monthly sustainer. I should have done this a long time ago. Very informative show and have been listening for years. But, how can you do a propaganda episode without mentioning the government’s efforts to control the narrative and suppress alternative views on anything related to COVID? A concerted all-of-government effort is certainly more worthy of mention than some untruths spouted by the former President off the cuff. Also in the most recent episode, isn’t it common knowledge that the President Obama birth certificate mudslinging originated from the Hillary Clinton campaign during their battle for the Democratic nomination in 2008? Yes, to be perpetuated by President Trump…

Wow. Generally this podcast provides good information. However this episode only had examples of disinformation and misinformation from the right. No mention of the Russia hoax, Clinton email scandal and others from the left. Very disingenuous and intellectually dishonest. But what would one expect from the Brookings Institution, who is as far left as one could be. Need to provide balanced information and leave the bias out.

I assign or recommend these episodes in my government class. Informative, succinct and entertaining.

Absolutely love the podcast! Most of the topics are unique and something you have never consider before, or others are items that impact our every day lives but you never really sit back to think about it. Overall, the quality is fancy. Highly recommend!

I listened to the 2nd Amendment episode and, wonder of wonders, they found two professors who agree that the 2nd Amendment is not at all what conservatives or the NRA claim. They even managed to scorn the Jan 6 riots (which were unarmed riots) in their commentary on bearing arms. Are these weak and juvenile arguments - I forgot hypocritically one-sided - the best that NPR and the Left can muster? Yes, that’s a pun.

Good show, occasional left bias is exposed but overall informative. My only question, you constantly beg for money and claim the show is expressly listener supported. And then I get to listen to a 30 second indeed advertisement. What’s up with that?

If you’re screeching in the review of a civics podcast that “It’S nOt A dEmOcRaCy It’S a RePuBlIc” then you should should probably listen to a civics podcast. (Hint: a republic is a representative democracy.)

Civics 101 is THE source for insight about the the United State’s beginnings, flaws and continuing transformation. This is the go to podcast for those interested in the nation’s democratic republic!

Always fascinating. And to those touting bias, little with humans transcend bias but if you have critical thinking skills, you can seek objective podcasts and then form an opinion. We have the right to disagree but we don't have the right to our own set of make-believe facts. I feel confident listening to this podcast I'm getting facts.

If you care about being an informed citizen, THIS IS THE SHOW!! Easy to follow story-based content. Designed for kids so it doesn’t do deep dives (it’s not supposed to) as a college student this show is invaluable because it gives me a safe starting point for any discussion, debate, or essay. In a world where people are quick to attack you out of a conversation because you are an “idiot” basic civics knowledge is a life line to having your voice heard over all the noise.

Great podcast - teaches civics, a neglected subject in most schools. This should be required listening for all students and especially for all voters who want to be informed. Really impactful podcast. Because I admire their work I donate to New Hampshire Public Radio [and i live on the other side of the country!].

This is a left leaning series. Listen to Republican Party episode. You can hear their dislike of conservatives. “The quote.””Christian Right “ Your tone matters. They interview George Will. I know the name only. George left the Republican Party in 2016, but he didn’t join any party either. But no opposite story of left to right. This isn’t civil rights it’s civil rights opinion.
