Speech therapist to the rescue, please!
On October 23, 2023 I wrote the following review. The content of the podcast is brilliant. Unfortunately, Katy Milkman did not make any effort, apparently, to fix her severe vocal fry at the end of sentences. Her vocal fry is so intense that we get distracted. Despite being outstanding, it is quite uncomfortable to listen to this podcast. Please get rid of this creaky voice at the end of sentences! A speech therapist is advisable to make this podcast one of the best, as it deserves to be. Today, March 27, 2024, more than five months after, I hear no improvement on her extreme vocal fry. The admission of a problem is the first step to solve it. Unless Katy suffers from a self-serving bias, maybe a topic for a future show. Katy is phenomenal. I love her podcast despite the fait that I cringe every time when I hear the end of her sentences. It is like the squeaking sound of chalk on a blackboard.

    Amazing show!
This show was recommended to my Behavioral Finance class by our professor so we can learn more about human behaviors even outside the school. As of this writing I have only listened to the first two episodes and they were amazing! I will definitely be listening more as it will not only help me with my course but also in real life.

Absolutely fantastic because it takes research
Dr. Katy Milkman takes the research insights from academia and turns them into actionable insights - a rarity in today’s world. She has a variety of guests from lots of disparate realms and doesn’t just burnish her own reputation by staying within a small range of topics that pertain to her work. This is the closest I’ve found to the impact of “The Huberman Lab” podcast which has the same impact on me but through the medical lens. The stories are also super relatable and easy to understand while connecting research dots.

Try not to sound too NPRy
Katy, great topics, guests, and insights. Please pump up your energy a bit. I’m reminded of the SNL sketches “Schweddy Balls” where the comedians mock NPR by talking in a exaggerated monotone.

    Choiceology- another winning episode!
Thanks to Katy, Team and Guests for the excellent episode on Cup of Knowledge. A helpful exploration of the power of mechanistic thinking and humility.

    You got bravery defined wrong
Leon Panetta and the National Command Authority would have been completely gutless to do anything but take the Bin Laden compound. They took the highest potential shot and personally risked nothing to do it.

    Biases toward left.
After listening to the humus episode it became completely clear that host Katie is a leftists activist, pushing her WOKE values in corporate works. Driven by leftists ideology, parading as a researcher. Blah.

    Entertaining and educational
This podcast is consistently a good listen. I often find myself wondering how they’re going to connect the story with the concept, which is definitely a good hook. The episodes are a good length… Just enough in depth without being overly long, and there’s a lot of ideas that can be applied in the real world.

Helping me make the right Choices!
I’ve listen to pretty much every single Choiceology episode, and I’m always amazed at the new stuff that I learn. I’m not an academic I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn express last night, but I always feel smarter having listen to these episodes.

    Episode: So much in common
Always find your content engaging. I’m thinking about the West Point study related to the time of day for classes. I love early morning and I might have had a different outcome from the study. Time of day and motivation levels might be another interesting study.

IT’S THE ‘WHY’ WE DO WHAT WE DO
I love how much this podcast draws me in. It includes great stories, great examples of behaviors, psychology and economics. It explains the ‘why’ so well. So easy to understand and presented beautifully. Thanks!!

    Invalid certificate
On One of my iPhones I keep getting a message that the identity of feeds. pacific-content.com cannot be verified. Expired 9-30-21. I tried deleting and re-adding but it didn’t help. Someone should tell the publisher to fix this

    Always informative, always relevant
Love the way in which the Katy sets up each discussion with an incredible story about an important topic relevant to decision making. The stories are always captivating and draw you in. The follow up discussion is relevant and thought provoking on how each of us can set ourselves up for success by making good decisions. Thank Katy and to the Chronology team! Great work!

Brilliant Show! Bravo Dr Katy Milkman!
If you are looking for the latest information around social psychology and overall becoming more self-aware you will LOVE Choiceology. Dr Katy Milkman does a terrific job of making the episodes inspiring and practical in the information guests provide.

    Excellent Series!
Really diverse series, with great advice, all in short 30 minute episodes (no commercials!) all given in interesting stories and anecdotes.

    Have to listen
Great podcast and insightful discussions and interviews. Also recommend the book of how to change.
  • Saltman52
    Good information, unfortunate title
I am fairly new to this podcast but have read Dr Milkman’s book, which led me here. I like what I’ve heard so far, except that there’s an odd almost-ending in the middle of every episode I’ve heard so far. The first time I thought it was over until I glanced at the progress bar and realized there had to be more coming.

    Choiceology is worth the listen
Dr Milkman’s “Better Decision Making 601”class is in session. This is a graduate level course so better take notes. Each episode is well thought out and presented to the podcast audience. Love the way she involves colleagues as guests to share their expertise on a specific study, or invites the subject of a study to testify about their experience in decision making. Dr Milkman never fails to relate the topic directly to investing and business.
  • Mutex
    Wow
Milkman shepherds these discussions across a wonderful and wild range of topics. She yokes together the history of science, social science, behavioral economics, psychology—and reveals what’s really going on when we decide.
  • Queueball
    Well executed
I discovered Financial Decider first but found I preferred the wider range of Choiceology. Interesting vignettes or guests are used to explore various cognitive and behavioral biases.

    My favorite podcast
    It’s fascinating

    Opinionology
Great show with interesting guests and topics that are easy to relate to. Valuable in a time when we are called to make many choices.
  • bytemyash88
    Informative; pejorative
Interesting commentary but host Milkman talks to us as if we were a classroom of first graders. Her tones (from nails-on-chalkboard highs to lows), while they’re ostensibly meant a to garner attention (from children) have the opposite effect on me. Milkman if you’re reading this could you just speak normally? Those operatic swings don’t belong in behavioral economics IMO.
  • Alm65
    Always Insightful
Although the nexus between these podcasts and investing is not always clear, they are always insightful and helpful in improving the various decisions we must make in life. The production quality is also exceptional. Although I find Financial Decoder helpful from a bricks-and-mortar perspective, it is not nearly as enjoyable as Choiceology. Kudos to Dr. Milkman and her colleagues.
  • frissjan
    Mediocre
The topics are over simplified, best suited for high schoolers and not for educated adults. The host isn’t awful; I’ve heard worse. However, she speaks in an unnatural and scripted way. This podcast could be so much better than it is.
  • Mary Liz Burns
    Insightful, inspiring and motivating
Behavioral insights are explored in relatable ways during each episode. Highly recommend the conversation with Annie Duke that explores why we tend to under-explore our options during our lives- and that sometimes being pushed out of our comfort zone can create new opportunities we would have never seen. Brilliant and inspiring for my pursuits in financial psychology!
  • Bexter79
    Such great informative storytelling
This podcast is so good - I love the way the ideas are presented, and I find myself thinking or referring back to something I learned. So glad to see new episodes again!

    Excellent
Every episode is interesting and thoughtful. Very happy I found this podcast
  • psychGman
    Actually, every show is fantastic.
All are extremely informative. Slick and totally professional. I study psychology and Dr. Milkman is brilliant with impressive subject matter that the vast majority can relate to with top scientists in psychology interviews punctuating each subject per podcast. Thank you so much for doing this Dr. Milkman.

    General Review of the Podcast
Always look forward to the Podcast especially because of the shows ability to apply lessons from totally unrelated to fields to our financial well-being and decision making. Congratulations to Schwab on the sponsorship.

    Favorite
This is by far my favorite podcast. I love the way they unfold the show. It’s always with a story of something or someone epic that stays in my mind long after the message. So that way even if I can’t remember all the behavioral science specifically, I can usually remember the story then backtrack back to the data. Very well done ❤️
  • mikecohn
Great podcast — I love how the stories tie to the learning portion
These are great podcasts, among the best produced and written of any I listen to. I love how the extended stories from the first half of each episode tie to the key lessons extracted during the second half. I’m eagerly looking forward to the new season.

    Interesting and Useful for Life
Each of these episodes include engaging stories, interviews with experts talking about their specialties and then practical applications for everyday life. Many of the applications can be applied to finances, but many are also useful for other parts of life. Also, if time is an issue, the show is very clear even at 1.5 speeds!
  • ya jimjimo
    Just wow
    I love this podcast period!!!
  • JimSimon
    Great and informative
The delivery is done in an entertaining way, and the lessons stay with me longer. We’re humans and psychological barriers to better life decisions including investing all make our lives better. The show isn’t good because it reinforces my actions and beliefs as it doesn’t, it stands on its own to make me think about everyday situations.

    One of my favorite podcasts
When I am scrolling through the podcasts I follow, I always jump to this or freakonomics as a first choice. I like thay it is geared to the layperson. Dr. Katy Milkman makes her topics approachable and interesting, but always backed up with science. I like everything about this podcast including the music you hear at the beginning and end.
