Nutrition #134

The Eat for Endurance podcast features Board-Certified Sports Dietitian Claire Shorenstein (MS RD CSSD CDN) and her nutrition tips for longevity in life and in sport. Through a combination of Nutrition Profiles featuring high-performing athletes, interviews with fellow Sports Dietitians on their areas of expertise, and occasional solo episodes, Claire hopes to inspire her listeners in their own training and fueling and demonstrate that there is no one-size-fits-all nutrition approach towards optimal health and performance.

So glad I found this podcast
Wow! A running nutrition podcast that has thoughtful interviews, without a narrow ideological focus on a particular diet type or any shilling of specific products. The “there are many ways to fuel” philosophy is so welcome.

    Well done!
Shows are always well done, with interesting guests and a lot of nutrition knowledge. I hope you can continue to share these podcasts.

Take Sarah Currie with a grain of salt.
Claire is a wealth of excellent knowledge but the episode with Sarah Currie was painful to listen to. Many of Currie’s theories are the groundwork for disordered eating.

    She talks TOO much!!
I LOVE Matt and was excited to see this podcast. I was totally disappointed by how much the interviewer talked about herself. I though this pod cast was supposed to be about him! Also, the questions were WAY too long. She’d ask a question, wouldn’t let him answer and the go on and on with the “question”. MANY of the questions were lost in her ramblings. Lastly - she interrupted him and talked over him a LOT!! The info Matt had to share was golden. I’m going to find another pod cast with Matt to hear him talk.

Awesome guests, good topics, needs better questions and time for answers
I really want to give this podcast more stars as someone interested in a lot of these topics, a student working towards a masters in nutrition and a long-time athlete. Positives: the podcast host seems to be knowledgeable and brings on some awesome guests! However, my big issue (and a huge negative for me) is that the podcast host doesn’t let the guests talk more, especially other dietitians and nutritionists. The host will often ask them a question but then go in and directly answer her own question or add a bunch of other caveats and thoughts to show that she already knows the answer or just outright answer the question herself so that the guest is just left with basically agreeing with her and not saying much. Just let the other professionals talk too and let them go into their specific fields of study or focus!! When the podcast host does want to do an episode where she just discusses her knowledge of a certain topic, then just do that and don’t bring on a guest (which she does do in some episodes and that’s great). My recommendation is that the host allow for the guests to talk more and let the questions remain broad so that it gives the guests some space to answer it in their own way.

    Great ultrarunner’s resource
The podcasts have great honest and accurate advice on nutrition, hydration, and recovery that all ultrarunners can use. There are a ton of tips and advice that newbies as well as very experienced runners can learn from instead of finding out the hard way.

    Great info & presentation
Thoughtful questions, solid credentials, no annoying music or fake laughter - a standout in the crowded podcast marketplace where most offer lots of noise and little substance. Shorenstein and her guests are genuine and smart. Can’t wait for more episodes!
