    Thank you!
I love this podcast! I recently made a massive career shift (from Wall Street to wallpaper!) and your podcast has been tremendously helpful! It’s such easy listening and helps me get to speed on everything from trends to fundamentals. For your Q&A if I may— if you were to recommend a few trade-only furniture sources to someone new in the industry (who will primarily be working with high-end luxury customers) which would you recommend?!

What is with the ad placement?!
I recently discovered this podcast and have really been enjoying it -good hosts and good content. However, the editing on inserting the ads is so mind blowing in how poorly it is done. They will literally be in the middle of a sentence/word and then suddenly an ad is spliced in. When ad ends then it is back to them except now you can’t remember what they were talking about. I have never listened to a podcast that was so unprofessional in how ads were placed. I have no objection to the ads themselves- they are a necessary part of any podcast. My only objection is how they are inserted. Knocking two stars off for that - I think my dog could do a better job of editing.

    Guilty pleasure
I absolutely adore this podcast! I have been an interior designer for the last 20+ years and love every moment of this creative adventure I listen to weekly. I have never missed an episode and in fact have listened to many of them several times! Your conversations make me laugh, and I’m totally drawn in. Aside from the fact of your expert opinions on interior design, I love how you play back-and-forth with one another. Joy oozes from all of you. You are sincerely get mentors. I just sent over photos of a project I am working on and could really use your advise. It’s a VERY unique space. Ha to say the least. Best regards. Claudia Wrightson

Just terrible - now I have good taste
I thought you were either born with good taste or not when it comes to designing a space, because I do not naturally have a good eye. Now that my husband and I are planning a new build I’ve been listening to this podcast to learn a few things. This is is hands down my favorite design podcast. I look forward to it every Thursday. It has changed the choices I make for our current home - and people have started complimenting my taste! Our builder is saying we have great taste! So listen at your own risk.

….and the podcast Oscar goes to Alice Lane
I’m so hooked on this podcast. The day it drops I make some tea and immerse myself in a mental visualization of design ideas. It has all the elements of a perfect movie….inspiration, wisdom, and some salty takes that I adore. Keep up the amazing content. Y’all are my people. With love from a super fan ❤️

    Offensive
For an amateur design enthusiast I found many of their episodes to be engaging. I’ll admit that I’ve learned a lot, but lately I’ve grown a little tired of the topics and I’m losing patience with the hosts’ ignorance. Along with other questionable commentary my final straw came when one of the hosts commented “He has a very Jewish face…so he is all nose.” My jaw literally dropped. Please do better.

    Finding your niche
I am so in love with your podcast episodes. All of them! I usually listen while I’m taking a walk. The peace and quiet outside really help me be an intentional listener. Now I’m going to your you tube videos as well. Jess, you and Suzanne make me feel good about knowing that my design style needs to be ME! I have found that my style has drastically changed over my lifetime, as I am in my seventies. If in another lifetime I could choose a new profession it would be interior design. Who knows? You have inspired me to make my home pleasing to my family and friends, but especially to make me happy in it. Thank you
  • For the love of books!
    Desperately tried but….
I landed on this podcast and hoped it would provide interior design inspiration and insight. Unfortunately, I was turned off by the podcaster’s repeated use of the word ‘like.’ Using it nearly a hundred times in the first ten minutes was distracting, and it diminished their credibility.

    Just the best!
I found Dear Alice during the isolation of Covid … as a new designer /recovering accountant, I loved listening to their take on design . Their humor and honesty just kept me waiting for the next episode. I still have a lot to learn , but in this industry… it’s not like having a work cubicle buddy . It can be isolating. I started following the social posts ..and it all clicked . The work is absolutely beautiful. Well of course they should have a podcast! …Fast forward to April 23 at HPMkt .. I hear the familiar voices .. . “Dear Alice is that you ?” In my Helen Keller moment … Sue and Jess immediately walk over like I was their long lost friend . The warmth is so genuine. If you can’t hear it already on the podcast .. it’s absolutely true. I decided to gift myself a trip to Utah for the podcast celebration in October 23. And there was Cory . My favorite episode was How they all met …thank you for being so honest and vulnerable. I am so very glad I found your show ! Wendy

A must listen for those building a home!
We have spent the last 2 years building a custom home and this podcast was my main source of information through that process. I consider myself a semi-expert in design now after listening to every.single.episode! The information is so valuable and I love how the hosts give actionable tips and advice that can be implemented easily. Some of my main takeaways that have helped me in the design of our home: *Have something interesting or a feature in every room. *Take risks, especially in the powder room *Gravitate toward authentic materials *Choose the right lighting and bulb wattage *Art! We now love it. *Pick the right sizes of rugs, furniture, everything. They taught me how. *Embrace how you live and what you like and that should drive your design I truly feel like I have been given an education. And it has been incredibly enjoyable. Over the many, many discussions and choices my husband and I made during the home build, I would very often refer to advice given by these hosts to give us confidence as we moved forward. So thank you, all 3 of you, for the plethora of information and for helping us discover what luxury means to us.

    Favorite podcast 🤩🤩🤩
If only I was as consistent in the gym as I am with listening to this podcast, I haven’t missed a week. I have recommended this podcast to all of my best friends. As someone who has always wanted to go design school this has fed my curiosity about all things interior design and taught me so much. It makes me want to go and get my degree. We are currently in the middle of a major renovation on our “70s” home (Think Frank Lloyd Wright vibes) in Northern California. Listening to this podcast has helped me tremendously with making appropriate decisions and choosing timeless finishes. I hope you never stop this podcast, it’s truly a bright spot for me every week! Love you three! 🫶🏼

    My Favorite Podcast
Dear Alice is my favorite podcast. I look forward to listening each week. At times it’s laugh-out-loud funny, and I always finish each episode knowing a bit more about design than I did when I started. I imagine it’s not easy to produce a podcast about a visual medium like design, but Dear Alice does so excellently, with professionalism and a dose of humor. Five stars, Jessica Bennett, Suzanne Hall, and Cori Place.

    Great
Love all the information shared and the explicit directions. Their conversation flows well and is engaging. I feel the show deserves five stars - but here are my negative critiques: the cover photo is so cute but doesn’t work for the little square on my phone - because of the dark/light contrast, I always see just a woman squatting. (Updated to add that they have now changed their photo to something much cuter) The theme music doesn’t match the show. It sounds like a monkey jungle song and is jarring in my earbuds. The trailers are so annoying - they clog up my feed and I delete them every time. I don’t understand having the trailers and no other podcast does that for regular show. Again, five star show, but these bug me every time. I just don’t get the need and I see that other people agree with me.

    Sponsor/sorry
Love the podcast and have been listening for several years. But sorry having ADF as a sponsor/advertiser whose mission is to limit women’s and LBGTQ rights means I can no longer listen and support.

    Please stop adding trailers
Show is ok, I’d like to keep listening but I don’t want to subscribe because the 2 minute trailers junk up my storage and podcast library. Show is good but we’re not dying for a sneak preview of it!

    Great Bones!
As a seasoned interior designer I really appreciate this podcast to keep my eyes and ears fresh. You guys discuss everything design in a fun, relevant way that keeps me coming back. Thank you for all you do! Ingrid Porter

    Every show
I listen to the pod casts over and over. I pick up new information each time. I love them. I am allowing your rules to guide me in all remodel interior choices. So pumped up!

    Not as high quality
They now play about 10 mins of commercials per episode and kick off the show with 20 mins of chatter. I used to love this show but honestly I find myself skipping a lot of it nowadays. Please cut down on the chatter at least and more design. For example, I really wanted to know about tile mistakes to avoid, not so much about grove or lingering conversations about the weekend.

    batch work lowered the quality
Batch work lessened my enjoyment of this podcast. it’s October and they’re recycling content from spring and summer. Five months old content in a design and trend consciousness podcast presents as stale and unexciting. If you listen each week, the catchup section from the guests feels pointless because they’re talking about things that happened months ago or they told us in a later episode they didn’t air in the sequential order. It’s distracting and feels disingenuous. If they just talked about design concepts the batch work wouldn’t be as noticeable. I also have to agree the “in or out” episodes are my least favorite and hard to listen to. They feel out of touch with younger generations. It’s sad because there is good content in many episodes

Only listened to 1 episode and I won’t listen to another
    Judgmental hosts.

    Toss or Keep
Was really uncomfortable with the hosts bashing former clients’ taste and design decisions on the Toss or Keep episode. Was it necessary to cover clothing, hair and nail choices too? Laughing about it was so unprofessional. Least favorite episode by far. Cringe.
  • Jrob86
    Really wanted to love this…
I have to agree with another review, sometimes they come across as “mean girls”. They are very contradictory. They say “do what moves you” but don’t do this because it’s awful…make your home your own and don’t worry about resale, but make sure when you renovate think about the next purchaser. I would like to listen to a podcast that teaches the basics of interior design, like pros and cons of quarts vs granite, do I have to offset a pattern pillow with a solid? If I go with a pattern curtain, do I go with solid pillows? How to find good antiques and how to decorate with them? Just some examples.
  • asdhjlvcfyuh
So now we are blocking reviews?
These women are INSUFFERABLE. Watch what you say before you alienate the country. And your designs are boring.

    Stick with Interiors please!
Been listening for years! I really like the advice Suz and Jess share on interiors. Please please stick to interiors though!! The latest episode felt so MEAN GIRLS to me! Jessica was definitely pulling a Regina George moment and Suz was Cady before she had her humble pie. Making fun of others for wearing skinny jeans and leggings? And being disgusted with women having extensions? Do you not realize that the majority of your clients/clientele have extensions? This episode felt so unclassy and unprofessional. I don’t think I can walk in your store again without feeling judged! Sad!

Great free design advice (if you can endure the elitist, borderline racist commentary!)
I have listened to many episodes of the Alice Lane podcast and consider it to be a good source of design information in most cases (not all). The thing it does best is to accurately portray the lifestyle of two white female designers, Jess Bennett and Suzanne Hall (and most times a male colleague, Cory, though he apparently doesn’t rank highly enough to be mentioned as a host?), running a very high-end design and retail business and living with considerable financial privilege. I’m sincerely glad that they find joy in what they do, and that they make lots of their design advice available for free to those of us who can’t or won’t spend 14k on a sofa or 175 on a cutting board. I really cringe, however, at several problem areas of the podcast: 1) Any aesthetic (home decor or personal style of dress) that doesn’t perfectly match what they sell or wear is derided as “out,” “gross,” “ick” etc. There is NO acknowledgment that other standards of beauty and aesthetics might exist anywhere else, or that any other ideas have value other than their own. They are grown up Mean Girls. This is underscored by the fact that the hosts can’t think independently and ALMOST NEVER disagree with one another on whether trends or design elements are in or out or have staying power. They can only regurgitate each other’s opinions. 2) They are also openly misogynistic and in the most recent episode managed to body shame and make nasty remarks about both men and women who wear leggings, and women who wear large hoop earrings and hair extensions. I don’t even know where to begin with this, it makes me so sad-mad. The GLARING white privilege, the willful ignorance of varying cultural ideals of beauty. One of the women said leggings “aren’t modest” and Cory said he would not let his little daughter grow up to wear them. Seriously?? Victim blaming and restricting women’s freedoms has gotten us into quite a mess but it’s clear these three see none of those problems in their upper class, white world. There’s much more to life than gutting your kitchen, and creativity and absolute beauty happens all the time with little to no budget - any truly good designer or artist will tell you that. (But not these folks, because they want to sell you their services and overpriced stuff.)

To all the haters… you’re wrong.
I’m a designer and live in Salt Lake City and have lived internationally… to the lady from New York: this show is not for everyone; and neither are you. Suzanne and Jess are awesome, funny and relatable!! Are you mad that you can’t afford something they are talking about?… they design high end homes so what were you expecting?!? They say themselves they cannot afford many of the things they specify. This is the life of an interior designer!!! Also can’t everyone relate to the last minute renovations Suzanne has to do? So funny and how it is for most of us. Well done Alice Lane! I listen to every episode twice and if I don’t agree with every single thing you say I can move on like a normal person and I sleep just fine at night. ❤️🙏 Also vocal fry is so normal… do you listen to npr? The Kardashian’s? Move on. People use the word like a lot in Utah. If you hate it then don’t listen?!? You have a choice.

The right amount of cool I never knew I needed!
I am low-key obsessed with this podcast. The hosts are so knowledgeable but yet so relatable. They never take themselves too seriously and that is so refreshing. The interior design world can be extremely intimidating but they make me feel like I fit in. I have learned so much. My favorite advice they give is to fill your home with things you love to tell your story and make no apologies. I consult their podcast, social media and website before I make any style decisions these days. I just ordered my first piece from their store-a tray for my cocktail table, and it looks so great I’m basically sitting back and waiting for Architectural Digest to feature me. Cheers! Ps-ignore the haters who complain about the trivial things in their reviews. The nerve! My face got hot reading some of them.

Loved this episode—I learn so much from your podcast and other ID sources and then I do exactly what I want in my home. It feels better and better every year. And thank you for the reminder of 20th century vacations with the cousins—OMG that was fun, and sometimes scary! I had wild cousins. :)

    Good design advice
this is good and informative. I bought a new house, and this podcast helped me. But the designer accents are just too much, sounds like they are trying to be so “aah dahling” pretentious. And quit saying “RAD”. It makes me cringe.

    Quality Design Podcast
The best design podcast out there. I’ve listened to, and tried to find more, but this is just the best one there is. I’ve listened to almost every episode and there is a gold nugget in each one. All about creating luxury spaces meant for the individual. Thanks for continuing the podcasts!! Please never stop!

    Inspiring podcast
I just started listening and I love your tips and dialogue! Excited to try Swigs some day lol! I usually listen to too many true crime podcasts so it is certainly refreshing to come across this one and for it to hold my attention. Also: good voices!

The fake posh vocal fry accents are insufferable. Not sure if they feel the need to fake them to try and fit in with high end clients… it does the opposite.

    Tone Deaf & Underlying Misogyny
“Ladies dressing like ladies” As an interior designer for the last 25 years, I’m a casual fan of the show when J &S focus on design principals and the discuss the organic approach to interior design. This latest episode on 5/25/23 urged me to write a review. We have come too far as people to now gender stereotype and pass judgement on how women chose to present themselves. Being “called out” by a male professor is not an epiphany; it’s a misogynistic and patriarchal attack on a young naive women. I think perhaps she needs to think very hard about why it feels good to conform to a societal standard and stereotype. Isn’t questioning that what real courage starts? To find your own style? Isn’t that where truth and inspiration live? Do better, Alice Lane.

    Check your pride
I’ve know Mormons in Utah. I’m assuming you are no longer practicing bc you have no sense of humility. Your homes are great but mine are better. You’re in Utah . I’m in NYC. Ppl here wouldn’t be that impressed. Still, in a million years never would I communicate that ppl who shop at Marshall’s/Home Goods/ Ikea are fools. Do you hear yourself through the lens’s of maybe a struggling single mother, a middle class family, a family with disabled partners, a family who lost their job, a mother trying to create a home on a tight budget? The sometimes mocking tone you use to underscore why a person shouldn’t do something or other, is disturbing. Are your kids brats yet? I just listened to you talk about your favorite sheets. Do you realize some ppl skip chemo or other expensive medical treatments because they can’t afford it. And you ramble on about a $700.00 set, or a long day trying in perfumes. It’s not if, but when. If you don’t want a podcast for middle income ppl just say so. But please, stop with the attitude. You’re in Utah

    Best podcast ever!
I love learning from Jess and Suzanne. They’re so fun to listen to and I’m not even an interior designer! It’s a good time! I look forward to it every week. They’re high-end designers with a high end brand with a specific style and if that isn’t your style then find a podcast that is your style!

    Bless their hearts
I listen to this podcast for its comedic value. I guess it offers a few nuggets of harmless to decent design advice, but mostly it’s condescension and judgment, forgotten slang from 1990-2010, and generally out-of-touch conversation between charicatures of middle-aged white women. In this way, the latest episode on “the TikTok” is one of their best - certain excerpts would be great SNL skits - but to the extent it was intended to be serious, it’s tragic. The hosts speak of TikTok as an institutional author they either agree with or disagree with, rather than as a platform for multiple creators with various backgrounds and opinions. Where they disagree, they are condescending and judgy as usual, characterizing creators as young, stupid, and/or poor. (“One word: ‘gross’”; “We had a client—her housekeeper, bless her …”) Even where the hosts “agree with TikTok” (huh?), they still manage to be catty about it. The hosts refer to the TikTok creators they are gossiping about as “teenagers,” “not experts,” and “homeboy.” All in all, this is a trainwreck. It’s cringeworthy. As comedic content, it’s pretty good. But as serious content, it comes across as unfortunate commentary from sheltered, out-of touch adult mean girls.

Like, they just say “like”, like all the time. It’s like so annoying!
Good design ideas but they all have very bad habit of inserting the word “ like” into every sentence- often multiple times. I just can’t take it anymore. Sorry to say

    Next level interior design advice
I love this podcast! I’ve learned a lot from Sue, Jess and Cory. The cabinets podcast was a lifesaver. We are renovating a 1944 Spanish revival home and had thought knotty pine would meld seamlessly. Thank goodness I realized our home would have looked like a cabin! These three are funny and knowledgeable. Thank you all for taking the time to record the podcast- you are all awesome!

    Love All Angles
I absolutely adore you ladies! From the first episode I listened to, I was instantly impressed, hooked & inspired. Coming from a background with a career in multiple design areas, now in construction project management to currently working my way into lead interior designer for a wonderful small business in Chicago suburbs. My commute to & from work usually consists of listening to your podcast. Thank you for putting your beautiful work into the universe & sharing it with us!

    Tone deaf
I really love love following Alice Lane interiors, the shop, the podcast etc…it’s all beautiful work produced by clearly very talented women. But ladddddddies I can’t count the amount of times I've listened, winced, and thought “did they really just say that?” From the completely inaccurate and offensive use of the phrase “me too” (note: it’s not about a cafe rio) to the most recent episode which stated “we’ve never seen women marching in the streets and distrusting our leaders like they were in the 60’s” …. Well, it all just comes across as very out-of-touch. I personally don’t mind the “elitist” side of the podcast (they’re allowed to speak to a millionaire market and there is more than enough diy/affordable home content out there ) but the frequent misogyny-enabling undertones is disappointing and I think the brand could be eeeeeven more successful if they looked a bit more outside the utah/lds mindset.

    Designs Through the Decades
Wow! That was so much fun! It was like traveling through time and getting a sense of how people were feeling about their lives, experiences and surroundings. I know space travel in the 1960s also made a big impact on fashion and lifestyles. Great job!
