    Bleeps lol
2 episodes in a row, & the guests got “bleeped” for their frank potty mouths. So funny! I feel a voyeuristic thrill to get to listen to this, since it’s light-years above my head. P.s. If anyone’s looking for another engrossing show, “Causality” analyzes engineering disasters.

    A profound appreciation for maths
Steve Strogatz delivers maths epiphanies in a comprehensible and engaging manner. Especially if your maths skills aren’t as sharp as you would like, Steve stops to explain what the concepts mean and why they matter.

    Make More :)
Love this podcast, it is every but the stimulation I am looking for! Just wish there would be more made.

For the love of math, this podcast is the best
I have really enjoyed all the episodes of this podcast. The joy it provides for a mathematician is beyond words that I can express. I tune it while I am running and at the end of it, I always learn something. My favorite episode was the one about anesthesia.

Cant ask for a better podcast
Each episode is so informative and attractive. I listen to it while cooking, running, relaxing. Steven Strogatz is amazing, he simplify hard topics and discussion of his guests. Thank you sooo much

    Scientist loves this show!
As a scientist sometimes it can be hard to listen to science podcasts or shows, they can often be simplified to meaninglessness or overinflated. Steve does a great job bringing the guest to explain on many levels their work and also their scientific passions. It’s motivating and fun and a great learning experience.

    Best. Host.
I LOVE his banter with his guests. Brings levity and humor to subjects that could be only brainy. Super easy to listen to.

    Host ruins the interviews
The guests are fascinating, the topics are fascinating but the host won’t shut up and let the guest finish a thought. His incessant “uh huh’s”, “hmmm’s”, “ahhh’s” and chuckling approvals are so annoying it is difficult to listen to. The guests seem to find it difficult too. What a shame. This guy needs to learn that the best interviewers are those that ask the question and get out of the way. Please, please, please talk less and listen more.

    Amazing Podcast
Renowned Mathematician and Author Steven Strogatz has nearly perfected the art of open air discussion with The Joy of X, as he helps not only to enlighten fans about the intrigue and personalities of world class scientists, but also provides a personal viewpoint of the thrilling and mind boggling work they do. Alongside this is Strogatz’s own genius delivery weaved in to the elucidation of topics unbeknownst to average listeners, making the overall podcast a sheer delight to the mind of the academic. Absolutely phenomenal and frequently recommended.

    Annoying host
Quite possibly the most annoying, constantly-interjecting host in all of podcast-dom. The guy doesn’t go 10 seconds without interjecting something over his guest. Absolutely ruined the episode with the Nobel prize winning physicist on the strong nuclear force, a fascinating area but made unlistenable here.

    Great Science Podcast
If you are a little bit interested in science, or if you have ever wondered what being a scientist is like, this podcast can pull back the curtain a bit. One of the things I really appreciate about the podcast is Steve's conversations with these scientists humanizes them and brings a new perspective to their work. It is great to hear about their successes but also that they work extremely hard and things don't necessarily come easy. This podcast illuminates the people behind the science very well and I highly recommend it.

    Much missed podcast
Please come back! New episodes would be wonderful.

    Casual/Scientific/Complex/Conversational
Wonderful conversations - love the in depth conversations with all sorts of (mostly mathematics-related so far) scientists on their what and why and how it all connects. Please come back soon! (p.s. love the editing to include various explanations of higher level terms like “event horizon” or “lemma” etc - I’m a doctoral student in the life sciences & I have a very different vocabulary!)

Love it and Not Technical Enough
This podcast is great, I’m so excited for it. That’s why I’m writing this review, I want to encourage you to be even better, perhaps to beak some rules you’re being held to. I go to quanta because they can take technical topics and present them with the right context to be understandable, the right insights to be inspiring, and with enough of a technical framework that I learn something. This podcast is scared of getting technical at the risk of alienating listeners (?) Don’t be afraid to get your hands nerdy! That’s why we read, that will be why we listen

    Not sure
But the explanations of basic physics by Steven breaks the flow of the conversation. If we didn't know what an "event horizon" was, we wouldn't be listening to this podcast. More in the moment presence, less post interview editing please. The era of assuming your audience knows nothing is over.

    Insightful and fun
Sometimes those with advanced degrees have a difficult time explaining complex topics in simple and clarifying terms, but the joy of x allows listeners of any level to enjoy insightful and clear discussions of incredibly diverse and complicated topics between modern thinkers. A joy to listen to.

    Fantastic podcast!!!
I am in love with the new podcast series, ‘the joy of X’. Steve Strogatz is an absolutely wonderful scientist and he is doing a fantastic job in hosting this science podcast. I particularly like the fact that he not only discusses the specific scientific aspects with the invited scientists but also equally stresses on the human aspects of how a scientist thinks and how she/he comes up with the specific questions and the meandering nature of science and the sheer joy of pursuing it! I highly recommend this podcast to anyone who loves science as well as anyone who would want to fall in love with science!!!

    Really Terrific
Black Holes and Mapping - New knowledge for me in an understandable way, for sure. Perhaps even better is the pure joy Professor Natarajan conveys in her telling of quest and discovery - her relentless pursuit to solve problems, and how on some levels, she is still the little girl in India thinking about patterns in the sky.

    This is good stuff!
I don't usually listen to science podcasts, but this is good stuff! Steve is such an engaging host! And in this first episode Priya takes us on quite a journey. Can't wait for more episodes!

    The show I’ve been craving
This show is window into a fascinating world - our world! - through the life and career of a brilliant scientist. Host Steve Strogatz is warm and delightful and so curious! Hits the ball out of the park - it’s my new recommendation to everyone. It’s the show the world needs right now!

Enthusiasm for math and science meets your ears!
Not only is Steve Strogatz one of the most creative and insightful mathematicians of our time, he is incredibly adept at explaining a wide variety of concepts in mathematics to general audiences in fun, engaging ways. With this in mind, The Joy of x podcast is going to be a treat! Steve’s love for mathematics coupled with his curiosity and enthusiasm is inspirational and will surely make for some exciting episodes that will leave us all looking forward to the ones to follow! Cheers to Steve for hosting this new podcast, and I can’t wait to follow along on this journey!

Prof. Strogatz is one of a kind
I first learned about Professor Strogatz when he gave a guest lecture to my undergrad Real Analysis class in 2015. I was amazed how he was able to explain complex ideas as if they were simple, digestible talking points. After reading ‘The Joy of x’ afterwards, it became clear that Professor Strogatz writes in the same way. It’s as if he’s having a conversation with you, and you’re just soaking up information simply by being present. I’m sure this podcast will be no different. I’m so excited to follow it!

What are people rating before Jan 22?
Nothing more than a two-minute “teaser” is available at this point. The first episode is to be released January 22. BTW, there’s no mention of the chain rule in the teaser episode.

    Exciting start
Great starting point. I am excited to see where this podcast goes.

    Sounds exciting!
Exciting preview! Really looking forward to hearing the first episode.

    Very excited!
Steve is the best! I can’t wait for this show.

    Whoops.
Complete fail. Podcast hosted by really smart mathematicians who cannot relate to humans. Guys, if you cant explain the chain rule any better ( less obtuse) you should give up and just play your video games. It’s not that hard, (the chain rule) and way more interesting. Math is easy, you are not. Take it down 12 notches. Relate. Relate. Relate. Math is beautiful not abstract so stop trying to prove how smart you are. One more hopefully helpful thing- instead of a dog and a leash, tell me how the chain rule can be used to predict success with the opposite sex. Not hard, guys. You just need to relate.
