StraightioLab

948

StraightioLab is an intellectual podcast where smart comedians George Civeris and Sam Taggart unpack the rich, multi-colored tapestry of straight culture. In each episode, George and Sam are joined by a guest to hold a MIRROR to society and finally get to the BOTTOM of mysterious and perverse topics such as college fraternities, gender reveal parties, the military, themed restaurants, and the concept of "the holidays." Scared? Good.

How many times can you say monoculture? The other one in the hospital.

I listen to a lot of pods
But truly none compare to Straightiolab. They define this queer alt-comedy genre in a brilliant way. They’re just the best!!!!!

    Love so much
Long time listener, first time reviewer: if you want a conversation of insightful and delightfully unhinged commentary, listen to this pod. Give it your time, your heart. Also the Santa ep truly sent me over the edge… Santa and The Patriot Act?? THIS is the stuff that keep me thinking.

Love the Show, not the Audio
One of the BEST pods out there. Y’all are so funny. But PLEASE fix the audio fading :( Not sure if George isn’t speaking directly into the mic or not but it’s distracting when it fades in and out.

    Great show, bad audio!
One of my top 5 favorite 2-gay-guys-talking podcasts. Why has the audio gotten so bad lately? Volume keeps cutting in and out.
  • bagsofpotatoes
Love the energy, but stay on the mic please
I’ve been listening for a while and it’s almost always a fun time. But lately, the audio goes dim sometimes. It sounds like they move away from the mic throughout the episode which is pretty distracting.

    I live for this
I was looking for more LGBTQIA friendly podcasts and hit the jackpot with this one! I laugh each time and absolutely love their dry humor and “scary” topics ;)

    Dang
Can’t believe “Goofy is a gooner” dropped the same day that “Dang” did. Y’all should see if Caroline Polachek would come on and do an episode about interpretive dance or something lol. Also, what about maybe a patreon movie club episode about Down Low with Zachary Quinto and Lukas Gage? Also, worse idea: maybe a patreon episode about like a video game?

    Good Eating
And the Joe Pera episode was the leftovers in the fridge that you eat late at night alone in the dark kitchen. The home is two-story and there are no Rae Dunn products to be found. Every hand soap is lavender. The plate goes in the dishwasher and you’re off to bed.
  • flandykrinlatch
    Thank you Joe Pera
This dynamic is so delightful. I didn’t know about Robyn’s SNL performance and he was the perfect guest to gift me that knowledge

    Love you guys
I look forward to this every week. Thanks for helping me lighten up once a week!

    Brilliant for real
The approximately 45 seconds that begins with George calling the NYT piece on boys thinking about the Roman Empire “basically misinformation” and ends with the observation that meme culture has circled us back to the gender essentialism of wondering what women even think about, is literally the most trenchant media commentary of the last decade. No notes. This podcast is deranged and perfect.

Incredible, introspective, hard hitting and comedic
What a wonderful podcast. Thought provoking, insightful, light hearted and deep. But an easy breezy listen that has me cracking up in inappropriate places and thinking on bits for days. Appreciate y’all big time.

The best and only podcast I care about
This is pure comedy gold that consistently makes my life better. It is witty and thought-provoking absurdist satire from two friends who have incredible on-air chemistry. Seriously I can’t explain how much I love this show.

    Love this podcast
It always makes me laugh! George Civeris and Sam Taggart are great hosts but writing this because I hated the episode with Robby Hoffman, she made a joke about r*pe and I stopped listening 👎

Listen to this podcast even if you're straight
I haven't listened to many podcasts yet, but this one is my favorite so far! 2 queer guys talk about straight culture (i.e heteronormativity), "woke" media and whether it's just emotional porn for straight people or not, and sometimes just random topics. It's smart and always funny!
  • drea perk vador
My new number one favorite podcast.

Razor sharp insights sandwiched between rambling yet entertaining tangents about cultural minutiae. It will make you think without knowing you’re thinking.

Intellectual and dumb at the same time
Very incisive and smart. Even when they’re just being dumb gay guys, they’re dissecting the ontology of the dumb gay guy in modern society and we’re all the better for listening and learning. I’d also like to suggest Modesty as an episode topic.

I love this podcast and straight shooters is the best segment to ever exist. A note to George: you are always right and it’s good to always be right. Love!!!

    Love this podcast
Love it! But note for George - you don’t need to be right all the time; sometimes I’m like, shut up George, let them make their point. With respect, love you.
