A hidden gem with a different perspective
Stumbled across this podcast after seeing Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets tour in Oakland (brilliant!), Guy and Gary mentioned it from the stage. I probably never would be aware of it if it wasn’t for that. So grateful to have found it! They’re both very interesting on their own, but where this podcast shines is the wonderful guests they have, and the unique perspective they offer because they are touring musicians themselves. it’s a great addition to my “gut reduction dog walking program!” I’d love to see an episode with David Gilmour. Keep them coming guys. I really appreciate what you’re doing.

Unique interviews from these artists who share their experiences while letting their guests share. Reliably great listen.

    My new favorite
My new favorite podcast is Rockonteurs. I've been listening for the past few weeks and I enjoy each episode as much if not more than the last. So far, my favorites have been with Shel Talmy, Hugh Padgham, Stewart Copeland, and, as of today, Noel Gallagher. Noel made me want to write songs today, and as an aspiring songwriter, I felt good about what he had to say. I like the chemistry you guys have together, and with your guests. I learn a lot every time I listen. Eventually I will get around to hearing every episode. Thanks for what you are doing, you are preserving a bit of crucial rock history with every show.

    Stop cutting off guests!
I’d give this five stars if only for the annoying habit of the hosts cutting off guests as they talk. I listen for them not you (with all due respect). Joe Perry got interrupted constantly! As have others. Great vibe, great guests. Take a breath and listen to the people you have on. They’ll do the work for you.

    The best…by a mile
This is a can’t-miss podcast. Some of the greatest musicians hosted by two classy, funny and talented stars themselves. This podcast is top of my listening list.

Best rock and roll podcast; artists are so relaxed.
Waiting for the Richard Lloyd (Television) interview, since influence referenced so often Minus one star for rare but unlearned political comments. Humilitty?

    Essential Listening
My favourite podcast, every episode rewards the listener with something new - essential listening for any music lover. Their passion for music and the subjects tales are infectious, and not without humour. Looking forward to many seasons to come! Would love to hear the following guests in no particular order: Bryan Ferry, Green Gartside, Tom Bailey, Martin Gore and David Sylvian. Keep ‘em coming and thank you!

    Every 1’s A Winner
I started out listening to the episodes featuring artists with which I was most familiar and was immediately hooked. I’m almost caught up with all the available episodes and am thrilled to hear there are more on the way. Also looking forward to seeing the lads later this month in Providence as the Saucers triumphantly return to the Americas - absolutely my favorite podcast - keep up the amazing work!

Love this show! Obviously the boys are fans themselves, and it really shows in the enthusiasm they have for their guests. Please keep this going. 🙏🏻❤️😎

    Haven’t skipped an episode yet
Very rare that I listen to every single episode of a podcast that I like, but these guys mail it every time. I was born in 1976 and this is the prefect podcast to fill in the gaps in my music knowledge. Also great to learn about artist and albums I missed and then check them out in between episodes. Thank you gentlemen!

Invaluable Rock Music History Shared By Relics From Rock Music History, Served With A Side Of Humor
I recently discovered this superb podcast after listening to Gary Kemp being interviewed on the Sodajerker On Songwriting podcast. The latter has provided the world with a trove of interviews with and recollections by hundreds of musical artists and songwriters, some of whom guest on the Rockonteurs podcast, as well. Listening to Gary and Guy prattle on about their own personal experiences and connections with their guests, who they encourage to share their own accounts of life in the music business, is an aboslute treasure. Anyone who enjoys learning more about the music professionals who have gifted the world their talents and how their stories connect to those of the hosts and other well known artists in the history of the rock 'n roll era will be thoroughly delighted to listen to this show.

It’s simply the best podcast about music an absolute joy to listen to !

    Great AND great!
This is not only a great music podcast, it’s just a great podcast…period. Always entertaining and not just for the deep dive muso types. My only complaint is the episodes just aren’t long enough. Sadly, that’s only because Gary, Guy, and guest of the week are so captivating, the hour flies by (kudos for the couple of ‘part two’ follow up episodes). Rock on, lads! George from Nashville

    Fantastic Podcast
This is one of the best music podcasts out there. Gary & Guy are able to give an insider’s view of the music scene with their guests. The conversation is always lively and interesting. Both hosts have a great recollection of the music scene in the past 50+ years and are great at telling stories about their connections to other musicians throughout their careers. Highly recommended! 👍

Are there no women in rock???
I used to love this podcast, but it’s gotten increasingly annoying with the guys constantly (and desperately) injecting themselves into their guests’ stories in a sad attempt to sound relevant. Not that they don’t have musical clout, but much of the time what they add when they interrupt contributes little to nothing meaningful to the conversation (e.g. “I played a gig with (insert name of person their guest just mentioned) in 1985.” So what!?!?). And this is CONSTANT. Also, by looking at the episode list you’d think there are, like, three women in rock – at least worth interviewing. It’s pretty sad that after all this time they’ve chosen not to break out of their boy’s club. I keep holding out hope that this show will get better…

    Thank you
Thank you for this Podcast. I found it in March and it is the best music pod going by a wide margin. As always, when a bass player is involved, excellence occurs.
  • jgoodwin56
    Superb
Haven’t missed any yet. Even some of the guests that I was either not a huge fan of or unfamiliar with, have always been a great listen. Engaging, heartfelt engagement with all of the guests, keep it up gents!

    What Podcasts Should Be
When I first came across this podcast, I couldn’t imagine that Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt would be all that great interviewing other musicians. Now, I can’t imagine anyone being better! They are insiders with the knowledge it takes to ask their guests good questions, as well as fans who have the same level of passion and excitement as their listeners. They are also unmatched in their guest selections. Shel Talmy? Tim Rice? Hugh Padgham? Alan Mcghee? Brilliant. They always leave me wanting more (especially the Tim Rice episode — I want to hear about my favorite musical, “Chess”). Hope they have him back soon, and looking forward to them having Townshend, Weller, Davies on. Wonderfully produced, never dull, and made for binge-listening.

    Fantastic Interviews!
Musicians and engineers are more likely to open up to fellow players who ask intelligent questions. There is an incredible amount of respect shown to Guy and Gary and it shows across the board. These are some of the best interviews I’ve ever heard hands down. Fab job guys!!
  • thebarstoolprophet
    Fantastic
Brilliant pod. Good interviews take a lot of research and effort - Gary and Guy clearly put in the work. The back and forth between the two is alot of fun too - kind of reminds me of NPR’s Car Talk in that sense. Thanks for all your hard work Gary, Guy, and production team.
  • SunsetEarth79
    Kudos to the dynamic duo
While I love the many guests and stories that fill the shows, ultimately it comes down to chemistry between Guy and Gary. Their brotherly banter and easy-going charm disarm many a guest to open up in ways they rarely do to journalists. Plus, these guys have been there: on the road, on the charts, and in the studio, so the musicians they interview talk to them as peers, which is a unique approach. They’ve had great guests so far, though my wishlist of future guests include Robert Fripp, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush (more women in general), and Madonna, if only for the sake of finally confirming all of Guy’s stories!

My favorite bass player; my favorite podcast
Guy Pratt is the world’s best bassist, and now the world’s best podcaster (Gary Kemp is no slouch, either). Want a true insider’s look at the roots and history of rock music with an English accent? This is the one. David Crosby, Billy Idol, Peter Frampton…the list goes on and on. Any rock fan’s dream! This podcast is my go-to! A can’t miss, week after week.
  • Milkshake_Thee
    Very recommended
I have been listening every week from the start. Really excellent interviews. So many big names coming on and giving relaxed and comprehensive talks about their lives and music. Gary and Guy are great together, they keep each other on their toes. So many great stories from the two of them too!!! A must weekly listen.
  • DaveSender
Great podcast, but stop interrupting your guests!
Love this podcast, even guests I wasn’t a fan of. There is nothing better than an old, English rock-star trying to explain their half-imagined past in a casual way! Lol. One thing though, you guys interrupt your guests too much. Let them talk!
  • chrisp1969
    EXCELLENT podcast!
Interviews are almost always great. The Noel Gallagher episode is particularly epic. For my money, it’s pretty tough to find a better interview subject than NG. Highly-HIGHLY recommended! Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt have lifetimes of music biz experience between them as well as great chemistry.

    Whimsically Enlighteningly Wonderful
I’m an American part-time musician in my 50s and find this pod to be a great accompaniment to my musical library (which, BTW, is very prog 😜)
  • MTC2691
    Completely Awesome!!
What a delightful treat…each and everyone of these is enlightening & fun. Such a treat in these times! Keep it up gents😉
  • Xtoval
    These guys need to relax!
Listened to the Steve Van Zandt interview. Everytime Steve started telling a story these English guys interrupted him and cracked bad jokes. Just shut up and let your guests talk!
  • retodd64
What a refreshing list of guests!
Gary and Guy, I love the podcast! You guys ask great questions that only fellow musicians would ask. Thank you so much for getting Mike Rutherford on! We need more prog legends represented! How about Steve Hackett? To go along with that, I'd love to see other contemporaries or piers from the late 70's earyl 80's. Jim Kerr, Charlie Burchill, Will Sargeant, Andy Partridge, Colin Moulding, Adam Ant, Marc Almond, Nick Kershaw, Martin Fry...i could go on! Anyway, thank you again, can't wait to listen to the archives and new and future episodes! Cheers.
  • Swampfoot Runner
    Love Every Episode
I just listened to the Imelda May episode yesterday, which caught me up, and I found her to be an amazing story teller. Her story about her crow was vivid, and the guys did a great job of asking questions everyone would be asking.
  • Casa del Martin
    Love this podcast
I was 10, 11, 12 living in SoCal when many of these musicians came out, but old enough to remember how fascinated I was with all the music, the looks, the record sleeves, the lyrics, & the mysteries of their lives & influences! I wanted to be grown up and hang out with all of them! The banter going on is truly entertaining...the stories, the history & circumstances, of the music, that was such a part of my life! Love the John Taylor, Boy George & Johnny Marr conversations... Cant wait to hear Billy Idol among others...as They say... absolutely brilliant!
  • Otr nut
Great guests & conversation. Low volume?
I’ve really enjoyed every episode I’ve listened to. Guy and Gary ask good questions and the conversation is always lively. One minor complaint... the podcast seems to be about 5-10 db quieter than all the (many) others I listen to. Kind of jarring moving from theirs to another podcast.

    Music..Memories..Motivation
A wonderful podcast with Guy and Gary trading stories with other musicians both on they were formed their sound or style and the Evolution of their careers. One of the best podcasts I have ever subscribed too..
  • Jjordan370
    Very enjoyable
Two musicians interviewing other musicians. Guy and Gary ask a lot of questions I want answers to. It’s also amusing that Guy has to let every guest know he was in Icehouse. (Who?)
  • Ilt Jones
Wonderful interviews for fans by fans
Gary and Guy consistently ask the sort of questions a serious music lover wants to know the answers to. Their gleeful enthusiasm is infectious and their awe when interviewing their heroes (like Hank Marvin) is charming. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed discussions of music so much. The backstories to bands like 10cc and Roxy Music are absolutely fascinating and some of the interviews are hilarious- Brian Johnson was a case in point. Thank you so much for these podcasts. You’ve brightened these rather strange times considerably. Keep ‘em coming!!

    Brilliant
If you ever wanted to be a “fly on the wall” and listen to the people that have provided the soundtrack to your life, this is the podcast for you. Imagine sitting with these guys and listening to their stories over a cup of coffee each week. Such a great podcast. Thanks Gary and Guy for putting it together.

    My Favorite Podcast
THE best music based podcast to be found. Each episode keeps getting better and better and Gary and Guy infuse the talk with humour, insight and an experts point of view. As a musician, I appreciate and applaud their love of the music and the respect they show for their guests. I eagerly wait each week to see who the next guest is and I am NEVER disappointed. Keep the great work and rock on!

    Superb!
Gents, thanks for such a wonderful podcast. As a child of the 70-80s you have taken me back to undoubtably the best decades of music. Number one podcast is well deserved. Every episode has been fun, educational and well executed. Love the interviewing style and the respect you have for the artists. Lots of music I will now go back and rediscover. It is Gents like you that keep some of the best music ever made alive. Well fone!
  • nick moroney
    Wonderful interviews
Lovely verbals! Especially loved the Brian Johnson, David Coverdale & Stewart Copeland natters, but these guys always seem to know how to choose & engage some of the most interesting music industry peeps in a most interesting and revealing way. It’s loadsa fun so long may they run...
  • WinWordsClyde
    Utterly Charming
Rockonteurs has quickly become this music fan’s must-listen podcast, and I’m so glad it’s grown in popularity so fast. Gary and Guy draw out fascinating and often hilarious inside stories from each guest - even guests I assumed wouldn’t interest me - and they do so because unlike so many ‘armchair rock historians’, Gary and Guy lived it. (And still do!) Each episode might start like an interview, but it quickly becomes something else: like you’re at the pub with close friends. Yet maybe my favorite thing about Gary and Guy is their quick, staccato-like wit. They’re genuinely funny, and their good humor makes each guest feel comfortable enough to laugh, relax and share. Essential listening for anyone who loves rock music!
  • G Delves
The podcast I’d be looking for.
As a musician and a lifelong fan of artistic process, Gary and Guy get to the heart of each guests career and thoughtfully weave snippets of their own experience into the conversation. It’s both nerdy and enlightening conversations that I look forward to hearing each week.
  • rjmdrum
Great podcast. Chers from USA fan
This has become my favorite new podcast from 2 performers I highly admire and respect. I would like to hear an interview with Iva Davies if that were possible to setup with Australia. Other recommendations, Mark King, Martin Fry, Midge Ure, Paul Carrack, Bryan Ferry- Regards from the USA.
