The Gargle

133

From the makers of The Bugle, this is a weekly show that skips the news pages and takes a sideways glance at the nonsense contained within the culture, celebrity, tech, science and advice sections of the news.

Alice Fraser is joined every show by two great comics from across the globe, bringing 30 minutes of smart satire alongside juvenile nonsense!

This might be my favorite podcast
I, like a lot of Buglers, was a bit nervous about the revamp. Alice is a fundamental reason I don’t miss Johnny Showbiz too terribly much. She’s fantastic, & both her Bugle spin-off shows are never anything short of delightful to listen to. The Last Post was quite an adventure, well with a listen it you’ve not yet, & I love the consistency of some of the sponsors (I can’t wait for that book!) into this universe with The Gargle. The Gargle would be something I enjoy even without the connection to The Bugle.

    Love it but…
I have loved the show since its start but please please please… get a better sound engineer or sound editor because the voices are not balanced!! Some guests are too soft, some are too loud and it becomes hard to listen to without constantly changing the volume. It’s been like this for the last few months. Won’t stop listening but it’s just super annoying

Love love love this for the smarty funnyness
and also pairs well with… a half a glass of water

    Half a glass of water
Not going to be lured into big ocean by reasonable portions.

Alice is perhaps the smartest comedian out there.
    Ten. All categories.

    Great humor, poor audio balance
The poor audio balance makes this show really hard to listen to. Alice is usually way too quiet and a goofy laugher guest is usually way too loud

    Hilarious and brilliant
I’ve loved Alice’s work for years now since first hearing her in the Bugle, and this show continues to impress week after week.

    Witty, but terrible audio production
Really enjoy the humor, but the audio quality of the show is atrocious. I’ve cranked my speakers and can still barely hear Alice and/or a guest, while the other person is blown out loud. Please sort out your EQ and audio quality.

    Funny wonderful Alice
Her humor often hits from a direction I was not expecting. Great gift for your ears and mind.

    True story
I love this show. Whenever I first heard Alice talking ab it on The Bugle I literally looked up “The Gaggle” bc I’m American and didn’t understand that the “r” is sometimes silent when Alice says it lol. Super funny and light hearted. Takes me away from more serious stuff I listen to.

    Surprisingly Closed-Minded
The host of this podcast is clever and witty. There is a good deal of joyfulness, playfulness and intelligence in this podcast. Unfortunately, the host enjoys ridiculing some people for physical characteristics over which they have no control. On several occasions she ridicules men simply because they are not tall. I wonder what physical attribute she’s going to criticize next. I’ve given up on this podcast a few times because of her prejudice. When I return, she continues with the insults. I expected more from the host, but I guess some people just have disdain for other people who have physical differences.

    Scandalously Carbonaceous
Trust neither the guests, nor the host, bc lots of foreign. Helluvalotta fun though. *update Still fun. Aramco as a sponsor now. I get it. Podding is an extremely costly endeavor. One must sell a soul to benefit a soul.

    Wonderful
Wonderful companion to The Bugle. It's like The Last Post but less often and more reality.

    Alice Fraser Rocks!
Yes, the first episode hasn’t dropped yet but I do love all her other work. Just a delight. Bringing the hard hitting reporting the public demands! Fighting back against Big Flamingo! 😁

    Super and Fun
This is a concise, well done and supremely fun podcast. It’s weekly or so. It’s rarely longer than 30 minutes. And the humor (humour) is consistently out loud funny (and clever). Love it.

    Smart, deep, and inclusive
Alice is so thoughtful she can make connections to the big questions where you’d least expect them. Great banter with great guests!
  • Ambiverbal
    Fastest Wit on the Planet!
I am in awe of Alice's verbal dexterity and quick-fire, pinpoint jokejabs. And she brings on funny friends, as well...and unlike some other comedians, she doesn't tread on or try to overshadow their work. Great format and delightful creativity. Thanx, Alice!

So funny I did a spit take while working
    Great show can’t recommend enough.
  • 54!mel
    Very witty
This show is consistently amusing and would appeal to discerning listeners.
  • Donna, but all names are taken
    I'd give 10 stars if i could
Find whimsy where it lives. Gimme my absurdity!
  • Cornymel
    Joyous and fun
    Highly recommend
  • Poeslacker
Well reasoned and insightful and funny.
This is one of the funniest and most fun podcasts out there. Kind and interesting while also being hilarious.

    Makes my day everytime
Alison Fraser is beyond clever and her guests can usually keep up with her. I especially love the flourishes of absurdity sprinkled amongst the glossy bits.
  • Iwantmy4minutesback
    What!?!?
I just heard the greatest insult, at least sounded the greatest to a guy who’s been drinking a bit on a Friday night. “ You really are the placebo group for the Nobel prize!” Followed closely by….. I need to stop drunk listening, great prep and writing by a rotating band of stand up comics, take my 5 star review and keep up the entertaining work
  • fgtrecvbhtfuplmbff
    I love Alice, but
many of her guests seem to hate all men. The evil male meme gets old very quickly. Too bad, Alice is bright and funny, but her guests are not.
  • skinnpuppy
    amazing!
Alice is amazing! and Tish is my favorite of the rotating multicultural guests, which are all good, but Tish is the most common and my fave. This pod is better than The Bugle IMO. Alice is just so witty and the comedy is so smart! oh and the format of this show is so unique and fresh. I thought I couldn't like anything more than I liked The Last Post, but Alice really nailed it with this podcast. Everything she does is so creative, but I really love this. I especially like the fake book synopsis readings, put one in every show please! You're amazing, Alice, keep it up. ps- I so miss the Half A Glass of Water plugs from The Last Post, you should work those into this show too!

    So Strange, So Lovely
Lyrical, bizarre, and goofy. The rotating cast of non-American stand-ups all blend with host, Alice, differently, and that’s a real strength. Frasier’s writing is eloquent, verbose, and deliciously post-modern, and a real joy to have. It’s the break we need.
  • LLLindy
    Nice to listen to
Thank god for the lack of politics! I love Alice and I love strange news, so this is a fun one for me.
  • 533George
    Hilarious!
The first episode was so funny. For Americans, this show is easier to follow than The Bugle (which is also terrific) because Gargle doesn’t include the politics of Great Britain and other commonwealth countries. I can’t wait for the next episode. Congratulations to the Gargle team!!

    devastatingly poignant
The deep dive into the news of the world will leave you breathless as you stare in to the abyss of our meager dimension. Alice knows intimately how to cut to the crux of all societies stumbeling blocks and guide you on a, if not hopfull path but, a realistic one. You will be more prepared for what will hit you in the stark world we a cursed to live through. May Alice's burtal honsty be you guide post to aviod flamingos.
  • Robbcd
It’s great, but why the echo?
Funny content from folks I’m familiar with from that other show, but why does Alice’s voice have a fake echo ? It contrasts from the guests. Keep up the good work
  • DataTater
    Lived up to the hype
First episode was great! I’m so glad to have Alice back in my ears.
  • AnthognaW
    Pre-review cuz why not?
Alice Fraser is just fun. She’s a lovely human with a smart, joyful comedic style. Can’t wait for this latest project. HAGOW at the ready.
  • Wildeofthewoods
    The best
Have I heard an episode yet? Nope. Am I 100% sure itll be yet another awesome production from Fraser? Yup.
  • drclairedechiro
    Outstanding! Amazing! Uncanny! Uneffinbelievable!
Hallo, Gentle Reader. This is a preemptive 5-star review in anticipation of Alice Fraser’s no- nonsense approach to flamingo reporting. For too long, these acidic pink troglodyte birds (is that a thing?) have been flying under the radar (no, this is not Andy Zaltzman) without the clear-eyed, objective scrutiny that only Fraser’s piercing wit and awe-inspiring analyses can...can...ugh, okay; I’m out. Anyway, looking for some first-rate Bugle comedy from one of the greats! Click the Subscribe button, for f*&k’s sake!
  • btybtybop
Always excited to see what’s new from Alice!
I’m just happy this won’t be another flamingo apologist podcast.
  • VFOH
    Gold
The Bugle team strikes gold again after the Last Post with the Gargle, just from the trailer, I’m already so excited!! Alice is an absolute treasure!

I’m all in from the debut segment
I loved Alice Fraser’s last podcast with The Bugle (The Last Post), and I’m all in on this new weekly series! This has all the hallmarks of appointment listening. Let’s goooooo!
  • SSIVRPH
    Already hooked
There has only been a promo so far and I’m already hooked on all of the positivity that you just can’t get with Andy Zaltzman being host of the podcast. Alice is an absolute gem.
  • A.Bugler
    Amazing!
Haven’t heard anything other than the trailer, but I’m sure Alice will pull it off. Go, Alice!
  • Moloko Vellocet
    Alice!!
I’ve been missing all the Alice in my life post-last last post ep and cannot stress how excited I am for this! <3

A Palate Cleanser for your Mind!
The marketing juggernaut that is The Bugle Podcast expands with the amazing Alice Fraser's latest project "The Gargle". Funny? Of course. Nuanced? Uplifting? Naturally! The Gargle brings stories of the arts, science, culture and more from perspectives far and wide. One wonders if there will be a crossing of the streams with product placement from famed late night tv salesperson D’Ancey LaGargle.
