My reply all wound has finally healed
Search Engine is a funny, thoughtful, and thought provoking podcast that takes an almost absurd deep dive into those random questions and passing thoughts we have all had. It’s great, I’m so happy to have found it. I never fully recovered from reply all going away, and this is exactly the salve I needed.

I look forward to every episode
I don't think I've listened to a bad episode, what a great podcast to learn about all sorts of things.

Great Investigative Journalism and Entertaining to Listen to
I have listened to Search Engine since it’s beginning and felt it was finally time to leave a review for one of my favorite podcasts. PJ Vogt’s recent work in the two-part series on illegal weed stores in New York is both well-researched and fairly presented. I learned a lot and was also constantly engaged on the overall story being told. This show is a gem of weekly investigative reporting and story-telling, with a good balance of humor, laughs, and insight into questions I never knew I had. Keep up the good work.

    Powerful, Fun and Insightful
The “Does Anyone Actually Like Their Job?” episode was introspective, insightful, poignant, and life affirming. Search Engine is rapidly becoming one of my favorite podcasts thanks to PJ Vogt’s outstanding reporting, candid self reflection, and endless curiosity.

    A gem
PJ has such a great delivery, like a friend explaining interesting things they’ve deep dived on. Look forward to many more episodes!

Loved this episode. It had me so hooked. One of my favorite so far. I cannot wait to see what is next.

    Finally!
I’ve been waiting for PJ to come back with a podcast and this one does not disappoint. I love all the random topics and have learned so much.

Speed episode. Labeling meth users Ne’er-do-wells??
I think this is a great podcast. I like some of the topics and discussions. I do take offense at the host stating that speed/methamphetamine is almost exclusively used by society’s ne-er do wells. The definition of which is lazy and irresponsible. As a recovering meth addict I feel I have the disease of addiction. It’s not that I wanted to be “lazy and irresponsible.” I also don’t blame people for doing drugs-illegal drugs. We are human and it feels good. Other than that I am pleased with this podcast.

    Pleasantly surprised and in love
Give it a shot, even if you didn’t like “Reply All.” I think I managed 3 episodes of “RA” before I gave up on it, mostly because PJ annoyed me. I can’t remember why or how I picked up “Search Engine,” but I LOVE IT. I can’t wait for the next episode. It’s intelligent but approachable. Interesting topics. It’s something you can enjoy with people you struggle to find entertainment to enjoy together: it manages to be inoffensive but still substantive. There are two levels: if you like to just get the gist of something while you do dishes or walk the dog, this is a good podcast for you. But if you like to get all the facts and really think about it, there’s plenty for you to sink your teeth into. I’ve listened to most episodes more than once, just to make sure I absorb it all.

    Of course very good, but…
PJ makes great podcasts- no doubt about it. Great structure, interesting narrative- he knows what he’s doing. I just think he’s forgetting why RA purity spiraled. In the “why are there so many weed shops in NY”- something something straight white men. I’m not gonna be mean take off a star, but in X syntax, this isn’t the virtue signal you think it is- just an eyeroll. Nobody wants this anymore. Igcognito is on hold for me now, not willing to pay to be lectured.

I feel like a teenager again
This podcast has completely turned my world upside down in the most amazing way. I have learned the most unexpected things and I’m viewing the world so differently—in a positive way. This is a MUST listen podcast

    Has me hooked!
I just signed up for Incognito Mode, and it dawned on me how much I thoroughly enjoy this show and want to support this super fascinating and well produced content. This show is rad! Highly recommend

Great show - fun deep dives
PJ excels at finding the kinds of questions that my friends and I are already asking ourselves. They’re the kinds of questions that come up over brunch or drinks, but no one has a satisfying answer. That is, until PJ dives in with an expert (or friend) to learn more. I look forward to each week’s question.

    Starting to lose my interest
I loved this podcast at first and was so excited to hear PJ back at it. But now it’s losing its direction and the topics seem forced and aren’t as interesting or engaging. Sad but I’m not sure PJ really understands what made reply all and TLDR so great.

    Glad for the show
Great show, I agree with most of the points in the most recent (how to survive…). I learned that I do not like Ezra Klein and will do my part to see less of him on the internet regardless of how smart or informed he is. His need to insert veganism as his example is incredibly glib and weakens his perspective and credibility, and I don’t think his perspective as a “capitalist” will age well. Cool.

Is this the best podcast out there?
    Definitely possible.

    Unsubbed
Ezra Kline on the journalism episode made me unsub once he got to talking about how buying “cheap chicken” at the store is unethical. Tell that to all the impoverished people who can’t afford to get organic free range ethical meat. My god, what a horrendous snotty elitist take. If those are the kind of repeat guests then I’m out.
  • FOX1921
    Solid show
I enjoy it, but after having been such a fan of reply all, not having Alex Goldman makes it feel as though something is missing.

    Scam text messages
One of the best podcast episodes I’ve listened to in years— should be nominated for a journalism award.
  • Eric [One of the Hosts :-D]
    Always interesting
The delivery of the questions and answers is simply fantastic every week. No matter the subject, even if it’s something I wouldn’t have been interested in otherwise - it’s going to be an enlightening listen.

This is what I came here for. Take the roaches down, and bring up the tech.

    Question
This is a good show. Recommended. Question: I feel a natural follow up to Scammy Texts is what the F is wrong with people. I mean, the majority of people I’ve known in my life have been at least decent if not great. And I can’t imagine even the worst people I’ve known enslaving and torturing other humans. And yet, this was done a bunch in the past and continues to be done today. Is it bad apples with leadership qualities spoiling the bunch? Are there certain conditions that create situations like this? Is it just greed? Greed does seem to explain most of the horrible things that happen in the world. But if it’s greed, then whyyyy????

    Scammy text messages
The episode on why we get all these scammy text messages was so phenomenal and actually inspired me to write my first apple review. You guys always knock it out of the park but this one was particularly amazing! Keep up the good work! 🙌🙌🙌

    Mind blown
Long time fan, first time written reviewer…. I loved Reply All and so glad to see PJ Vogt resurface here. …This most recent episode (about human trafficking behind random texts we commonly see) is astounding. Thank you for bringing the reporting on this to your podcast!

    Hey PJ
You know what I never needed to learn about??? Marvel snap! What a time warp! Ha. Great game, ignoring my family and slacking at work with the best of ‘em! Love the show. And often the recommendations. And you have the best laugh.

A Very Thoughtful and Nuanced Pod
I really appreciate that the host digs deeply into topics and doesn’t always come away with clear answers. The journey is illuminating regardless of the destination.

A winner, PJ is a welcome voice for eardrums everywhere. So much fun and an instant classic, this is what podcasts are for.

Entertaining, but “this water (in 2002) existed when coke had cocaine in it” and there were no regs to protect the public? Coke had cocaine in it back in the Late 1800’s till 1914. Cmon man - this whole convo just shows ignorance because you only believe in what’s on social media. I READ the column in the WSJ that your guest refers to - yes, most of us are still alive! Gasp! And a whole 22 years later!! You sound totally puzzled that United sent you to a trade association. Do you even know what they are? They are lobbying groups based in DC, that represent ALL airlines. They lobby for laws in their favor. But better yet, they are vast repositories of data about their members. One org. here in DC “Flight Safety Foundation” has a library of ALL known crashes including the recordings and transcripts. Ask some boomers or genXer’s next time, dude before wasting time doing all this research. Any librarian in any public library can research this way better than Google AND you can call, yes, talk to them over the phone. So no need to leave the basement. Did you never research anything beyond Google? Go to any specialty collection? Look at different types of sources, secondary AND primary? Go to college? I taught people how to research and SEARCH over my 50 year career, yes online searching was around before the internet, and no, Google didn’t exist then. Searching full articles for business techniques and news, any industry (beverage, chemicals, pharma, plastics, etc) law, patents, trademarks, technical standards, etc. Much is online, but you won’t find it in Google. It’s like being Arabic and listening in on a dark ages podcast where you guys just discovered addition, subtraction, multiplication, etc. and you’re oohing and aweing over it when the Arabic world is already doing calculus and astronomy. So cringey.

    Great
So glad I found this show! And so glad to have PJ Vogt back in my ear buds. I loved Reply All and was sad to see it go. It’s great that PJ is still creating thought provoking, entertaining, and funny stories. Give it a listen. You won’t regret it.

    The Roaches are still here
Sorry but the roaches of new york never left, you just are able to afford a nicer apartment now. Roach infestations like the one you described still exist in poor neighborhoods.

    Amazing podcast
Some say this podcast cures cancer, others say it will solve climate change, alarmists blame it for the declining morals of generation alpha. All opinions aside, this podcast is an astonishingly well devised enterprise of information and cultural commentary. I highly recommend it to all who find themselves unable to access TikTok and are thus relegated to the podcast medium during long car operations and complex bathroom activities. It’s definitely top 50 in the non-true crime, non-comedy, non-news category. Improve your hygiene, make lasting friendships, raise your IQ, develop good habits, increase your muscle mass, grow more hair, acquire wealth, learn to talk to adults, learn to control children, tame the worm, excite the desired, conquer the peasants, lat waste to the fallow, become a god

    Great Podcast!
PJ Vogt has the main part of some of my favorite podcasts, TL;DR, Reply All, and now Search Engine. He deserves a place in a future Hall of Fame for Podcasters. Please, make more episodes! Keep creating!

It’s good to be hearing PJ’s voice regularly again
I’m enjoying this show! Some episodes are silly and some thought-provoking and brilliant. I’m always happy when I see a new episode has dropped.

    Fantastic podcast!
PJ is a singular story teller. I loved reply all and this is definitely filling the void for me! Keep up the great work!

    Great podcast
Five stars for the theme music alone, I could listen to that forever. But besides that, the topics and the discussions are really interesting and enjoyable

    Entertaining
Big fan of the show. The recent chicken bone episodes were hilarious.
  • msophiek
    Amazing storytelling
Very thoughtful episodes with great storytelling. Loved the ones about the sushi, fentanyl, amphetamines, chicken bones, and housing choice vouchers. Every episode is really well edited.

    Chicken bones
So you discovered that if you feed the rats, the rats will come. I really thought this episode was going to shed some light into the social mores of the people who eat chicken wings on the go and their propensity to leave them as rat food. I was disappointed.
  • andrewcayer
One of the greatest podcast hosts
This is one of those shows where you listen to every episode because you didn’t realize you would care about the subject, but end up thoroughly invested by the time it’s over. PS I didn’t realize how much I liked about Reply All was actually just PJ (no offense, Alex).

Completely biased reporting. Plenty of factual information about outdoor cats and birds - how many times do we have to waste our time talking about this? Are there not enough original ideas out there? Read the article on the Tweety vs Sylvester debate.
