    Siracusa.
The longer I listened to Mr Siracusa the more I realized he had little of substance to offer. Some people get to talk. Other have to act.

    He’s really good but....
I like show. I’ve tried many philosophy podcast and this is one of the best. With all that being said, the interviews are painful. It’s not the guest or the content(although some is redundant) it’s the audio with about 99% of them as well as the flow of the conversation. I might have to go to the archives to listen to more of his pre-interview heavy content. - Diogenes

Excellent Podcast for Stoicism and Self-Improvement
Whether you're just getting the basics or have been practicing for a long time, this podcast is a valuable asset to learning Stoicism and applying it to your life. Simon blends an engagement with ancient Stoic sources and modern Stoic practitioners, and supplements it with his personal experience and interviews with experts from a wide range of fields. It is also worthwhile to support him on Patreon and gain access to the pre-2020 backlog.

    Extremely practical…highly recommend!
Simon Drew has done a fantastic job of reviving Stoic Philosophy for the modern-day thinker. He keeps things simple, practical, and uses intuitive examples that help you understand how to actually apply the wisdom to your daily life.

    Practical Stoic is Right
I love this podcast. I’ve been listening for at least two years and Simon has helped me greatly to apply Stoic principles to my life and the various situations I face. It’s wonderful to listen to something that may seem really esoteric or complex and have it broken down in its simplest meaning. Even if you are new to Stoicism as I am, I believe you’ll love learning from Simon.

    New to Stoic studies
I am new to these Stoic studies, or I suppose habits and/or lifestyles. I feel myself in a rut most of the time due to battling a mental illness so I tend to always try to find things to improve my outlook on life. I’m addicted to self help and always trying to make myself better. And from what I have heard, that’s part of stoicism. So I’m already part of the way there! Hearing the narrator speak about lessons and passing advice is great. I unfortunately can’t listen to any podcasts before #22 but it’s where I started! I’ve learned a lot and have become more grateful. My days are starting out better and they are continuing to get better as the days go on. Thank you for everything you do and don’t stop! Ps. Sorry for the long halfway pointless review.

    Excellent
Excellent podcast for those new or expierenced with stoic teachings. The narrator is very well spoken and offers great advice to all who will listen. My favorite episode is one of Simon's earlier episodes: #6. His advice to write your own philosophy and goals is very insightful and helpful. Thanks Brother!

    My values are affirmed
I don’t like following the crowd or latest fad. I love this podcast because he focuses on values and how to live up to them. It’s an encouragement. He quotes from ancient wisdom of the stoics. It’s all about personal growth and wanting more. I gave the podcast 5 stars because most are short and powerful segments.

    Excellent
Learning about stoicism has been a tremendously positive experience in my life. Simon Drew does a remarkable job with this podcast. The podcast is easily to listen to, practical, and thought provoking. I couldn’t ask for more. I listen to many podcasts and this is by far my favorite. Thank you Simon!

    It really is practical.
There are too many resources out there that are fun and interesting but not exactly practical. When I am looking for resources I give it a simple test by asking: Can I actually apply this to my day to day existence? When the answer is “no,” I simply skip it and forget it. This podcast is actually practical and, to me, practical = valuable. Why is it practical? Because after explaining a stoic principle or reading a quote, Simon ALWAYS follows it up with an everyday example. Further, these examples allow me to actually apply the stoic teachings to my life. Thanks Simon, good work.

Just listened to Bryan Cohen interview
I really enjoyed this interview. Bryan and Simon seemed to jive well and together brought up some great ideas for practical applications of the stoic principles. I’m planning on listening to it again in a few days to review the valuable wisdom within this short conversation.

Very close to what I'm looking for, but a few refinements would make it a five-star for me
I mentioned this in another stoic podcast review, that Stoic-related podcasts are few and far between — good ones even moreso. I've been on my Stoic journey only a week or so now, and this one was the first that I came upon, starting from the beginning and up to around episode 20 or so. I'd like to comment both on what I like/appreciate and also where I think Simon could improve upon from my experiences/perspective in radio, podcasting, and voiceover work. What works for me: • I love the short format — average ten minutes, short and sweet, and I can get a few episodes in on my walk, or just listen to one and spend the rest of my walk thinking on what he talked about and spending time meditating on personal application. • As much as hearing "quote" "end-quote" gets old for me, I do appreciate all the quotes from Epictetus and Seneca and other philosophers, hearing these concepts from the source. I have found myself on numerous occassions backing up again with the "back 10 seconds" button to listen to the quotes again and even jot them down in my journal. • I like that your podcast is clearly thought out — you've clearly sat down to write out a script and read from that as opposed to free-forming it like some others (that could clearly benefit from using a script). Your podcast isn't filled with "umms" and "uuhhhs" and other unnecessary filler speech. • And like your title suggests, it is a practical stoic podcast — the information you present is practical, and I benefit from it and can apply it personally. A few things that don't really work for me and could help improve your podcast: • I tell this literally to every podcaster I run across — PLEASE use vocal compression on your audio recording. You have too many highs and lows in your audio, and when I'm driving around in the car or walking next to busy traffic, it becomes difficult to hear the moments when your voice goes soft. Use a moderate amount of compression, but not too much that it starts to sound like Top 40 radio and punchy. • Please STOP reading the reviews. I'm there for one thing: to listen to someone talk about and teach me Stoic principles. If I want to here/read what other people are saying about your podcast, I'll just read the reviews. I have literally skipped every single review you've read just so I can get to the meat and potatoes of your podcast. • Maybe continue to refine your reading voice, so that when you read through your script for the episode, it sounds a little less like you're reading — that might involve thinking about natural breaks or pauses in phrasing to let something sink in, or to slow things down to more of a reflective, conversational pace. You're all ready like half way there, I think, and there is certainly room for growth. Reading conversationally isn't easy and few do it well (at least in the podcasting world), but I think envisioning yourself as having an intimate conversation with someone while you read your script will go a long way towards making it feel more natural and less like you're reading. Good podcast, Simon. I've taken away quite a bit from it and used it to help work things out in my journal and my blog, processing stoicism and how it applies to my life. I hope that you'll see my critiques for what they are, just a "prop up" to help you make it the very best that it can be. Memento mori

    Highly Recommend
I recently discovered this podcast and am now in the process of going back and listening to all prior episodes. Simon provides a great combination of stoic history and actionable advice. The length of each show is perfect for a short commute or morning routine and well delivered. Very nicely done! Keep spreading the work of stoicism!

    Excellent Podcast on Philosophy
Being new to the concepts of Stoicism, this is an excellent introduction. Simon Drew has provided excellent insight into these theories. The production quality is also quite good. And while I enjoy some long format podcasts, this podcast with a generally short duration is a welcome change of pace. Easy to spend some quality insightful times over a lunch break and hear a complete show. Thanks to Simon Drew for this excellent contribution.

    Skip the start and end?
Is there a way to do that?
  • Tim103082
Leads you to the threshold of your own mind.
It is not often that someone can articulate these concepts simply. Reading direct translations without metaphor or scenarios can be very tedious and Simon does a great job of taking you to the “Threshold of your own mind” but letting you walk through the door. Many times I find myself saying ,”Hmm. Never looked at it that way. Maybe that’s why...” and triggering deep introspection. Keep up the great work and I will assuredly keep listening.

Wonderful guide to stoicism and helpful reminder on how to live life
To date there are around 120 episodes of this podcast, and I’ve listened to all but 7. Simon is a great teacher and a wonderful person to listen to. Stoicism is a philosophy that I have found to be very helpful. Typically I’m a person who can be probe to procrastination and getting stuck on things. While I’m working at becoming well read in stoicism and other philosophy, this podcast is a great way to incorporate the lessons into your life everyday, it calms you down when you deviate from your plans, and it teaches you new ways to interpret stoicism in our time period. I highly recommend this podcast for anyone, you won’t be disappointed.

    Throwing Up the Earthworks!
Simon’s podcast is Stoic gold. Measured, thoughtful, and generous in its content it is ideal for beginning the journey or reminding yourself of what’s important on the journey. I have binged listened and not an episode has gone by that hasn’t left me reflecting and developing my own philosophy of life. Top work, chap. Keep it up!

Thank you Simon. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I listen to a few episodes on my 40 minute commute to work. This really makes me feel centered, and not out of control. As in, in my mind; makes me feel like I have my thoughts in order. Great stuff, man.

    An excellent podcast!
Simon does a fantastic job of taking a stoic principle, uses great quotes from the ancient philosophers and then modernizes it and adapts it to the world and society that we live in today. He comes across extremely friendly and very grounded oh and I have thoroughly enjoyed learning how to live with virtue and serenity with this podcast. Thank you immensely for helping to improve my life!

    Bite Size Wisdom
Love listening when I am doing something that takes about 10 minutes. What better way to accomplish a task than to simultaneously make yourself better by learning from the Stoics.

Fulfills the Title of the Show
Simon Drew’s podcast fulfills the title of the show, the “Practical Stoic,” because he focuses on how Stoic principles can be applied in the lives of the listeners. He typically presents a concept touched upon by the “Big Three” (Epictetus, Marcus Aurelius, and Seneca), then fleshes out the concept to improve the understanding of the listener, and provides examples of how the presented Stoic principle applies in the modern world. Mr. Drew does an excellent job when interviewing modern Stoic philosophers, allowing the guest the freedom to be comfortable and present their ideas, while at the same time shaping the interview so that it always includes the underlying idea of pragmatic application of Stoicism to everyday life.

  • Rag and Bone
    Pleasant and Informative
I was looking for some easy to understand, but accurate information on Stoicism. Unfortunately it can be a very dry topic when an ungifted speaker delivers the information. Fortunately Simon is able to deliver a concise and pleasant narration which I've enjoyed immensely. Keep up the good work!
