    Narration 👎🏼
This could be a very interesting podcast. Unfortunately the narrator sounds terrible!

    I was expecting more action
This podcast prodcution was bland I was expecting for action and details but it just came off as a narrative and pieces of the story put together. The fist episode was good but later ones just dragged on and I had no rush to move to the next one.

Couldn’t follow story and narration is a snooze fest
Almost made it through the 2nd episode. The story may have been easier to follow if the narrator didn’t just read aloud the story. Total snooze fest. Too bad, too, because it could be very interesting.

    Wow
I’ve lived in GA for almost 30 years and I never new this went on in Atlanta.

    Not bad
After finishing the series, I can’t help but think how much better this could have been. The ads and host really put a damper on the entire story. That said, the story is very interesting.

I’d give this 5 stars but the ads are ridiculous
Great story marred by the ads.

    What is going on?
I could not follow this story. I really kept thinking that I was skipping episodes. I feel like it wasn’t put together and jumped all over the place. I will probably read the story on Wikipedia so I have some understanding of what happened.

I'm an avid true crime fan and listen to about a dozen or so shows regularly including In the Red Clay, Relative Unknown, True Crime Garage, Gangster Capitalism and others. But Gangster House? No thanks. From the first episode I felt like I was literally thrust into the middle of a movie so I had to try to figure out what was happening. Then as I made my way through Episode 1, 2, then mostly throught 3, I just couldn't take it anymore. It's disjointed, horrible quality production (and this was PRE-COVID!!!), and the story just doesn't seem to be sticky enough for me to care what happens in the end. I didn't get to really know any of the "characters" at all aside from their names and careers. I'll have more luck just reading about whatshisface (see, I can't even remember the main guy's name!!!) on Wikipedia or something. I've unsubscribed and deleted all of the episodes. Not worth trudging through every episode. I have better podcasts to listen to. Sorry. When you improve, maybe I'll give your future seasons a try.

    Just .. ok
The storytellers voice will make you want to put your head in a blender !!! GreAt topic but could have been a lot better .. Still worth a listen , if you can make it through ...

    Subject great, production awful
2 stars for the story. It’s a 5 star story to tell. But the story telling is the worst on any podcast I’ve ever listened to. Hokey and cheesy foley effects, music interludes, and the narration is absolutely the worst. The narrator emphasizes the wrong syllables and words so frequently it can be hard to follow. The sequence of the story is bizarre. It’s like they wrote the story, threw all the pages in the air, and then put them back together randomly.

    Commercials
Too many commercials for length of episodes. I understand the need to make money but all recent podcasts I’ve listened have commercials too often and they repeat commercials. Not worth the aggravation
  • BrittLovesPodcasts
    Good podcast hate the narration.
Interesting topic. Sounds effects and music are a bit too loud in background. And the main narration feels so robotic like he’s reading a script and very stiff and rigid. Just my two cents. Just read it a bit softer or more natural feeling I guess and it would be a top notch podcast.

    Great Job!!
I remember this growing up in Decatur, Ga. My first cousin was a good friend of Tina Thevis. I met her several times and remember the stories of the big house! This was around 1974, 75, 76. They went to school together at Pace Academy. My cousin would ride with Tina and the chauffeur if they went anywhere. She (my cousin) also told me she met Evil Kneival at the big house. Her and Tina rode horses a lot and we used to go to Chastain Park and watch her ride English Style. All I knew at the time was her dad was a wealthy man and it had something to do with porn movies. But I really didn’t know what that was! I’m surprised that my Aunt let my cousin hang out over there, I’m sure they must of known his line of work. My cousin lived on Beechwood Drive then. Very big, expensive homes. Curvy roads, beautiful area. Drove by Lions Gate many times as they would show me where Tina lived. It was unbelievable to me as a 12 year old. I was thinking about Tina one day recently and I remember my cousin called me from Tina’s house. I had never met her yet. She was asking me what kind of music I listened to. She asked me if I listened to Deep Purple.. I said no that I didn’t know who Deep Purple was! I felt very uncool at that moment haha! I heard “Smoke on the water” last week and I always remember the Deep Purple conversation with Tina. It made me question what really went on with Tina’s dad. So now I know... years later as an adult I know about Mike Thevis... Great job!

    Very Fascinating
This is a very interesting show. Lots of good details and told very well. Love the voice of the host as well!

This is a genuinely great podcast
I have a feeling that the people complaining about the music are generally not predisposed to openness to new things. I thought the music added a very atmospheric quality - and I loved when it took a deep dive to color in a mood. I still think about this podcast months after listening to it. You did a great job - and look forward to your future work!

    Narration
    I want to love it.....

    Narration is off
Compelling story but the narration takes away from the podcast. Not sure why they did not use a professional voice over person but it really is distracting. Maybe they will make a documentary & I can learn about this important story. Truly surprised the podcast management team allowed the narration to be used.

    Awful music
Glad I’m not the only one who found the sound mixing and music choices abominable: one minute it’s funk, the next it’s classical piano. Gave up three quarters of the way through the first episode.
  • AlldayMemphis
    Good story but....
Good story. Decent narrator but kill the sound effects.

    Fantastic Podcast
I am also not sure what the other reviewers heard...this was a fantastic story and a well produced piece of storytelling. The narrator had a fine voice, spoke clearly, the music choices enhanced the story and the pacing was excellent. You will enjoy this podcast and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys mob stories such as The Irishman, Goodfellas, and the like ....Great job on this podcast! Thank you for posting

    Great podcast
I really like the audio re-enactments. Awesome job. Thank you

    Hmm
Not sure what everyone’s deal is. I really enjoyed the music and the mixing, it kept my attention and liked the narrators voice just fine.
  • iamsterdam.68
    Could have been much better
I agree with many of the other reviews. The narrator’s voice isn’t a soothing podcast voice. I disliked the attempt at funky “era appropriate” music. The topic could have been much more fascinating. I listened to the end as I wanted to know the outcome. Should have just Googled it and saved time. Not a podcast I will recommend to friends.

    You Might Think It’s Ok...It Isn’t
I listen to a fair number of podcasts & here we are with this one. A really rich, juicy topic...that dies on arrival, drenched in the absolute WORST sound mixing of all time. Want a moment to take in the story? NOPE: All hokey music. Also, if you want to be read to, in an overly practiced way? That would make your 3rd grader’s play look like high drama? This podcast is the worst of everything. Hard pass.

    Not executed well
The background music and voice over is distracting and takes so much away.
  • sleeping thru the stort
    Boring
The narrative was drawn out unnecessarily. Agree with the other reviews about the voices and music are difficult to hang with. I wonder how many times peep shows are mentioned. Felt like hundreds.

    Painful!
Might be a fascinating story however listening to the boring, flat and uninvolved narration combined with the intrusive background music and sound effects (not to mention the bizarre musical interludes) makes it not worth my time. Lasted through a couple of episodes and threw in the towel.
  • la di blah
    Not worth it
The podcast topic had potential but the narrator’s voice/pacing, the odd background music, and disjointed storytelling make it difficult (if not impossible) to enjoy.
  • frnnnnnnnnn
    Music
The music is so cheaply done and very present that it is very distracting and i cannot even get through the first episode

    Release date
Good content, wish you would put the release date on all the episodes.

Badly strung together vignettes do not add up to a narrative
Four episodes in and there have been a whole string of barely connected events. While interesting enough in themselves the podcast has zero tension, little sense of direction and a confused timeline. Yes - I know there’s a murder, and I’d expect an eventual return to that, but I don’t care. Lots of cheesy porn scores and dead air. Lots of things touched but not explored. The 70s pornography era was ripe with stories, all you get to hear about is a warehouse full of skin mags and some colic old broad. The sound effects (lots of them) sound like a kindergarten project. I’m done.

    A read-aloud
This podcast has an interesting story to tell but relies too much upon just reading it aloud off a manuscript.
  • artistintn
    Very interesting
I really enjoyed it. I thought the narrator and the music didn’t take away from the podcast.

If you can’t pronounce La Cosa Nostradamus
Perhaps stop trying so hard to make connections to the mob.

    No sound effects... please
This is an interesting story but the sound effects are so amateurish. They take away from the story. Also, the narrator’s voice is so monotone. Some inflection now and then would move the story along.
  • YKWD....000000
This is fiction presented as true crime
I am supposed to believe that this backwoods redneck dim with garbage person outsmarted and out maneuver the Gambino crime family. More believable he was their puppet making them money in the Bible Belt. “Porn king” of Atlanta couldn’t even outsmart Fredo!
  • BeCreative19
Great show - keep it coming
Great show! I was attracted to this show after reading some of the complaints about the music and narration. Honestly, I don't agree with the complaints. The music and sound effects actually help the story, and while the narration isn't the greatest, it's nowhere near as bad as people are making it seem.
  • WHYMEB
    Annoying ads
    Good story so far.
  • Girl from Mo
    It’s good but.....
I have to agree about the music. The story is great but it really did not need the music. The story teller could be a little more upbeat , sounds like he’s bored
