Staying In with Emily & Kumail

In this podcast — whose profits go to charities helping those affected by Coronavirus — Emily V. Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani are uniquely qualified to lead you through this forced quarantine situation. They are both writers who work from home. Emily was a therapist and currently is a chronically sick person (see: The Big Sick) who often has to quarantine herself, and Kumail is her main caretaker. Plus, we both just like being at home. Let us advise you on how to stay calm and avoid cabin fever. Let us give you entertainment recommendations. Let us give you constant updates on the squirrel vs. bird war happening right outside our window. Let us not talk about the C word at all. And most of all, let us take all of the proceeds from this podcast and spread it amongst charities that are helping those who are hit hardest by this quarantine.

100% of the Net Revenue* from the podcast will be donated in equal portions to the following charities to support their efforts to assist those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic:

*"Net Revenue” is defined as the “Advertising Gross Revenue” received by Hyperobject Podcast and Three Uncanny Four less agency fees and actual costs incurred to produce, distribute, and promote the Podcast. “Advertising Gross Revenue” is calculated by the (cost per thousand) rate times the total impressions delivered.

    Please do more :)
I loved this podcast so much. I’m so sad I don’t have anymore episodes to look forward too!! I really hope they do more together soon.

    Give us MORE!!!
I will stay in as you ask Kumail, if you give us more episodes.
  • ViolinistEngineer
Please give us a season 2!
Emily and Kumail my only complaint is that this was a limited series podcast, can you please bring it back? 😅😂☺️

    Just adorable...
You two talking is like listening to a sweet Ella Fitzgerald jazzy love song. You’re just so sweet to each other and have the best wit. Thank you for this podcast. It was so uplifting and charming during a tough time. Please continue doing a podcast. Don’t make this the end!!!

    Love, love, love.
I could listen to these two talk on a regular basis! They have great banter, and their witty humor was very entertaining. They have a great take on the mundane and the not so mundane while remaining very relatable. I’d be super pleased if they decided to continue to the show.

    Thanks, Emily + Kumail!!
Much like Kumail mourning the end of a good food after the first bite, I hated the fact that this was a limited podcast (and that I didn’t start listening to it until September!). Such lovely, relatable people. And man, did I laugh. Enjoyed every moment, wish they would continue the podcast.

Gave this a big pass. Liked Nanjiani’s comedy so I checked this out. This was very disappointing.

A warm hug with a hefty side of hilarious
I am from a rural area where, in general, people do not take this pandemic very seriously, regardless of the number of positive cases we have seen. I have felt pretty alone in my convictions of mask wearing, social distancing, etc. This podcast helped me a lot to know that I am not alone and that there are people in the world who are wrestling through and dealing with “the weirds” and life post Hanks-Wilson, in the same ways that I am. The effortless humor and obvious love between Emily and Kumail is inspiring. You guys are awesome:) Thanks for this podcast!

    Reason and Humor
I miss this podcast so much. It was the only Covid related podcast that felt comforting. Funny, real, and I’m helpful. Like talking to a good friend.

    Love it
This podcast srsly got me through the first weeks of quarantine. Kumail & Emily are so funny, smart, in touch with their emotions, and their relationship is super cute. Not gonna lie, as second waves of covid starting happening, part of me thought “maybe the podcast will be back??” Love and miss this podcast for sure!

Great podcast to keep you company during The Weirds.

    Great podcast
Kamil and Emily are absolutely my favorite couple. Somehow this program makes some kind of sense out of the quarantine. It’s hard to be calm and this program is very helpful to me. It’s a limited episode program but very engaging. I highly recommend it

    Please make more!!!
Please please make more! I love listening to Emily and Kumail!! Your chemistry is so sweet. Listening to you makes me feel like I have two new friends :) I also appreciate how serious they are taking the current situation in terms of social distancing and mental health and anxiety. Keep the episodes coming, love you guys :)

    Make more PLEASE
I just completed the last episode of your Staying in podcast...I few months late. I’m new to podcast and found then very entertaining. The banter between Emily and Kumail made me instantly comfortable and the tips and special guest were helpful too. With more time at home, I’ve also appreciated the movie and series recommendations. Please make more!
  • ToucheyFeeley
This podcast is like a warm blanket or a hug from someone you love! Very grateful to Emily & Kumail for providing something so loving during such a challenge time.

I love this podcast. It has helped entertain and make me happy in these new times! Can this just be a regular thing? Please?!

    Needs to be "renewed"
This lovely couple really helped me cope with the current climate when it first started.
  • A_Meadow_Parrott
    Give it a listen
I’ve never felt so warm and fuzzy from a podcast. Perfect timing, this is just what was needed.

I have finished my second re–listening to this glorious limited series of a podcast. It’s honestly been one of the top things to keep me sane through The Weirds. We have had to keep it real strict with the self isolating in our house (due to the whole double lung transplant my husband received almost 8 yrs ago). The stress/anxiety/crazy range of emotions of this is... bonkers. I cannot begin to tell you how refreshing, how reassuring, it was to hear from someone else in the same boat—nah, dingy, a boat sounds like we’ve got more actual space than we actually have up in here. Everyone. Together. Day in day out! All of this is simply to say: I love you. and I miss you. and “Baby come back!”
  • hippyvixen
    We still need you
    Come back, please!
  • mellie_melly
Binged in a single weekend. Wish my cat and I could spend quarantine in the Gordon/Nanjiani/Bagel household 😭😻💗
  • ARLiles
    New favorite podcast
And I have refined taste, if I do say so myself 💁🏼‍♀️ Seriously though! So funny and exactly what we all needed!
  • EDT1978
    New Podcast. Same great hosts.
So happy for the success of Emily and Kumail but bummed it meant the end of the Indoor Kids. Great to know that they’re the same people I loved listening to for so many years. Listened to only one episode so far but glad to have this batch of new content to enjoy.

Everyone needs a good bedtime story...
Especially now. And this podcast is it! So comforting and hilarious. And I really appreciate the lists at the end of the episodes so I don’t have to scramble to take notes!
  • PennyLane0610
    Love this podcast!
Emily and Kumail are the best, seriously comforting during the weirds. Speaking of, the weirds aren’t over so please come back! It’s actually just getting weirder😂
  • fairytern
    Great show!
You guys are great—a really fun and entertaining show. But hey—you should know that the woman with her mouth agape watching Janis Joplin at the Monterey Pop festival in 1968 is Mama Cass of the Mamas and the Papas! I was listening to your last show on the treadmill and shouting at my phone—it’s Mama Cass!! It’s not just some random woman! Anyway love you guys! Hope you come back with more shows!
  • stephaniekida
The weirds wouldn’t have been the same without you.
Thank you so much for making me feel like a friend in your living room during the weirds, laughing while you two riffed on matters big and small. You hosted great guests, too. I always felt a little better while listening to you while I tried to work out at home in my husband’s band practice space that’s currently not being used. Amps make good props for hamstring lifts. We are still in the weirds (in Austin we can’t seem to get out of the weirds), and I already miss your show so much, though I knew it had to end. You’re both so smart and funny and down to earth. Thanks for the memories!
  • AnotherEmily...1
    This is absolutely fantastic.
First review ever here but must voice that Emily and Kumail are a GD delight. Just confirmed this will in fact come to an end (I’m on episode two) and I’m already sad about it. Come back!!
  • SuzenM
    Please come back!
We’re still in the weirds! I miss you; please come back!
  • AShearer
This podcast is the silver lining you’ve been looking for.
  • ausfwerks
    Thank you
Thank you for a perfect podcast to help us through the weirds. I listened to it as I was walking my dog when I was stuck at home and I listened to it on my way to work at a rehabilitation hospital. It was great for giving me watching ideas and conversation starters and I felt like I was hanging out with two cool friends. You helped with both the emotional coping piece and the avoidance coping, with giving me great distractions. Thanks so much!
  • krowe_12
Emily and Kumail make me laugh so much and it is so appreciated during this difficult time. Thanks guys!

A great listen during the weirds!
A perfectly calming distraction to listen to during the “weirds”! Entertaining even for me, a 54 year old science teacher! Thank you Emily and Kumail!
  • dow po
    Thanks !
Wonderful to listen to you both in the middle of the night , when the Pandemic worries really dig in !
  • Manaliese
I can’t wait to find someone and have as much chemistry with them as Emily and Kumail have. You just feel like a close friend with a couple who never makes you feel like a third wheel. Emily’s advice is killer and Kumails humor is just the perfect mixture that will brighten your terrible 2020
  • NM Nerdist
    Thanks Emily and Kumail!
I loved this podcast! I am sorry to see it go, but now I have to wonder how many times I can listen to "That's what I'm screaming" before it finally fails to bring me out of a bad mood. Birds.
  • SweetHens
    Thank You!
I have listened to you guys since the start of “The Weirds” and I feel like I am loosing a friend. Thanks for getting us through such a difficult time with such insight and humor. You will be missed.
  • betseyville0820
    The weirds are not over!
The weirds are not over for a lot of us. I wish you would continue for the ones that are still staying home 24/7. You’ll be missed!

Helped Keep Me Sane During the Weirds
Thank you! So sad it’s ending! Please, please make more. Choose any topic you want: squirrels, birds, feelings, movies or dinosaurs. Whatever you make will be fantastic.

    Great podcast
I just started listening to you guys in week 13. I really enjoy your conversation and how each of you are dealing with the pandemic. Emily’s laugh is infectious ❤️ Keep up the excellent work Shari (Chicago)
  • cctay76
    Thank you!
Thank you for making this podcast in the craziest times that we all have been experiencing. I will miss hearing from both of you! And for all the people out there, the pandemic is not over! Please wear a mask and be kind to each other.
  • Wackyzingoz45
    Best thing to listen to
**Edit: I will miss this podcast so much. Even if it wasn’t regularly uploaded this would be my favorite podcast. You both helped me through the start of this difficult period, thank you for the laughs and the thought provocation! ...Consider continuing the podcast? :-) I love this podcast! I love that while they do talk about what is happening in the world they do it in moderation and do not just spew endless facts/news. I’m a college student and I’m back at home and swamped with homework. Through all the normal levels of anxiety, the heightened levels of anxiety along with home and school related anxiety this podcast is the best thing to listen to. I love being able to shut down and listen to Kumail and Emily talk sanity and get updates on the Nintendo switch. I also recommend Armchair Expert and Delete This and Dear Hank And John for those of you looking for more podcast distractions.
  • cwilcox
    Charming, funny, comforting
Even if you think everything is going fine, still nice to hear these two very charming, witty, and emotionally intelligent hosts tell you stories about their lives and reassuring you and each other that it’s ok no matter how you are feeling. Thank you so much for sharing a little bit of yourselves with us!! It was like making a new friend even though we aren’t supposed to see other people.
  • Pippipdadoodleydoo
    Can’t say enough good things!!!
Please continue on as a regular podcast once the weirds is over, i will miss them both too much!
  • Bowser33@
    Thank you
    Will miss you both terribly.
  • StageLane
    Thank you!
What a wonderful way to feel connected to others during “The Weirds”! Your reactions and struggles were so parallel to mine, it truly helped me to feel less crazy during this most unusual time! Will miss your voices, but look forward to following what you both produce in the future.
  • CajAge
    Sad to see this end
You both bring joy to me every week.

    Survival of the Weirds
I am so glad to have stumbled upon this show during “the weirds.” It made me laugh. It made me think. And, it made me look forward to another new episode. Thanks for the joy, distractions and commiserations.
