Following the race to develop an unlikely climate solution. Leaders in Wyoming have a plan to revive coal: jumpstart a young, controversial technology called carbon capture. To plant the seed, the state is hosting an international competition pitting five start-ups against each other for a grand prize. Can they figure out how to future-proof coal—or is this just false hope for the town that powered America?

Host bogs down fascinating story with focus on personal
Fascinating and timely subject, with scientific, cultural and economic implications. There’s a lot to cover, but the host/producer is preoccupied with turning it into a personal journey story. He arbitrarily chooses one contender for the carbon capture prize who happens to resemble the host himself, and obsesses on that character at the expense of considering the other scientific teams. He inserts pregnant pauses throughout discussions, literally adding them to interviews when the interviewee does not pause sufficiently to the host’s liking. I was tempted to speed up the playback just to get through this faster. Challenging

Whether you’re an expert on the young carbon capture industry or have never heard about it — Cooper McKim will take you on a personal storytelling journey to explore the potential of this promising technology, and what it means for the environment and the small town economies across Wyoming. It’s beautifully narrated, very well balanced, warm and insightful. It will definitely leave you wanting to hear more. 👏👏👏

Cooper McKim and the WY PBS staff including Melody Edwards did a wonderful job explaining the complicated process of carbon capture and reuse. I listened to it in one day! Well done!

    Well done
Late to the game but that only meant I was able to power listen to this in a day. Great reporting by Cooper McKim and the WY public radio group. Interesting topic that I had heard the terminology for but did not understand the concept/use of captured carbon. Thanks for the information!

Thanks for looking into carbon capture
This was a new subject for me—something I had not ever heard of. The author did a great job, as well as a lot of detail as to why attempting carbon capture is such a difficult and expensive problem which may never even be feasible. Thanks, Cooper!

    Awesome journalism
I think about this all the time in regards to my small, rural hometown, what will they do when their one industry is no longer serving as the largest employer and tax revenue? Great job cooper and co

    Exceptionally good
Carbon Valley is exceptional! The entire notion of a race to develop carbon-capture technologies in the context of revitalizing Wyoming coal country is kind of nuts, but Carbon Valley turns this nutsiness into an incredible story and intriguing listening!!

    Refreshing Focus on Carbon Capture
I’ve read a fair amount about carbon capture, mostly strictly through the lens of using carbon capture to reduce atmospheric CO2. Most articles/podcasts were talking about aspects of carbon capture that I already knew about, so thinking about carbon capture through the lens of revitalizing Wyoming coal is a really interesting take on the subject.

    Beautifully crafted story
I was moved by this dive into carbon capture and life in Wyoming. Coopers personal story is a compassionate voice of understanding of the heartache of these longtime coal mining families.

    Fascinating subject, fun storytelling
The angle this podcast takes is brilliant. The idea of creating a profitable industry by pulling carbon out of the atmosphere is so cool. Also, Cooper McKim does a great job narrating, developing characters and being his geniune, slightly awkward (but not ashamedly so) self. Well done.

    Great Reporting
So thankful for this specific project and the hardworking the team at Wyo. Public Radio did to bring this story to everyone. I really had no idea about Carbon Capture or what was going on in my own state in regards to it. Here’s to more understanding of what lays ahead of us as a community and a state.
