We Interrupt This Broadcast

211

From six-time New York Times bestselling author Joe Garner, and based on his groundbreaking multimedia book, “We Interrupt This Broadcast,” comes a 12-episode, audio docu-series hosted by broadcast legend Bill Kurtis, and narrated by NBC’s Brian Williams. Each episode unfolds with the brisk pace and tone of a thriller while presenting an in-depth look into the reporting of, and reaction to, the extraordinary events that became the benchmarks of the American story. It is said that “breaking news” is the first draft of history. “We Interrupt This Broadcast” marks the first time the stories of these historical broadcast news events are told exclusively by the broadcasters and TV journalists whose work created those drafts in real-time.

    Eager for more!
I binged the entire series and am devastated that there is no hint of more episodes soon. I can think of so many other events that would be fascinating to hear about: George Floyd, Jan 6 Insurrection, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the 1st Gulf War, TX Tower Sniper…the list goes on!

    Great listen
I lived through most of the events you’ve covered and it’s fascinating to hear from the media that covered the stories. Hope to see you back on the air soon. As much as I like the podcast, it doesn’t replace your commentary.

Yay! We still get to listen to Brian and his wit :)
I was going to be sad that Brian wouldn’t be on air at MSNBC, but now we get him, his perspective, and his humor as he puts American history in broadcasting context. A Boomer’s dream come true!

As you might expect from Williams and Kurtis, this podcast is riveting.

    Fascinating
A fascinating and expertly told account of this infamous moment in broadcast history begging the question: how many of us are victims of the same theatre posing as news today?

Great except the last two episodes
I really liked this podcast but not a fan of the last two that were dramatizations. They were odd to me. I think that this podcast was going a great job showing the importance of the press but the dramatizations were just strange.

    Engaging, powerful, moving
This entire series is exceptional! Listening to the important historical moments of our past by the actual journalists who were there, you feel like you’re living in the moment. This podcast is very well written and I enjoy listening to Bill Kurtis and Brian Williams. I’ll stay tuned for more!

    Great podcast!
I loved every episode of this podcast. Absolutely fascinating, behind-the-scenes info that I never knew. They led me to research every topic afterwards. I wish these podcasts were longer! I really hope that the producers plan new episodes - I’ll continue listening!

    Doubly Fascinating
Not only does this podcast teach things you didn't know about historic events, it also teaches about the state of broadcast news in that era. What a great concept. I find it fascinating x2.
