dsgreene71Iron DragonsAs one who loves this genre, it seems that, too often, it can become cut-and-paste regurgitations of past literary greats. So I was delighted to discover that this author, Derek P. Gilbert, seems to be keenly aware of this phenomena, as he has crafted such a nuanced and fresh look with this new paradigm. Having developed a lifelong love of fantasy tales and artwork from classic authors such as C.S. Lewis, J.R.R Tolkien, Ursula K. Le Guin, and contemporary fantasy artists like Larry Elmore, Jeff Easley, Clyde Caldwell..., I think the last time I remember enjoying a new story this much when I first read the “Dragonlance Chronicles” in the mid 1980’s. In listening to the Derek narrate his audiobook, I know I would certainly enjoy further exploration of the world he has created here.

thespy75Fun, engrossing, edgy, and "human"I really am interested in the varied characters at play in the story. It brings me back a touch to the Dragonlance days of my youth, but it doesn't feel stolen from there at all. I guess it is just the whole dragon thing. I'm only about half way through, but really am looking forward to each new chapter and . . . more books. I really like some of the "human" moments where our star deals with words and concepts that he doesn't get in dealing with another character. We all attempt to understand things by context at times and Derek does a good job of expressing how that is unconsciously done and in an amusing way. Iron Dragons is definitely worth the listen, has good quality audio, and keeps you wanting more . . . oh and it makes me chuckle out loud at times too.

OnTheBussweet and straight to the storyI love podiobooks and this one is one of my favorites. There is an intro and outro only, not a myriad of commercials and special crap, in this podcast the sound quality is excellent and the story rocks too. can't wait for book 2!

RajahsunMore pleaseI love midevil stories and si-fi this was a nice mix. I did not expect it to be as good as it was. The reader was great...each person had a diffrent life like personality as if I know someone in my life that might be each person. The descriptions of situations (story line) were done with compleation I was left wanting book 2.

JonnyghostGreat plot, great characters and I loved the readingThe story did venture into sci-fi a bit but I personally liked that twist. Every character had a very strong personality and I didn't find myself getting confused as to who is who like I do with some fantasy stories. The readers voice was very nice and easy to understand and the recording quality was high. I think every part of the story held it's own and I never felt like skipping to get to the next part.

Yet Another Mikestarting to get strangeStarted off as an intriguing fantasy piece with good narration but now is drifiting into scifi. It's a strange combination and I think if you're looking for traditional fantasy you need to look somewhere else.
