Idle Thumbs

97

Idle Thumbs is a video game podcast full of in-depth discussion and absurdity. Between overly-enthusiastic dissections of their latest media experiences and baffling phonological explorations of Jeff Goldblum's name, the cast has managed to find a regular audience of dedicated readers. Scoop up the latest episode and hear us extol the virtues of whatever we've just watched, played, or read—then attempt to answer reader mail before getting sidetracked about robots.

    It's good for the soul.
Idle Thumbs. What can I say about Idle Thumbs? Well! Firstly, it's a video game podcast made by some really cool and thoughtful humans. Secondly, it's often hilarious while also being informative and inclusive for all! Finally, it often provokes DEEP and MEANINGFUL thoughts about video games in the wake of it's broadcasting. Come and hang out, the Idle community is wicked. Cheers, Me.

    Excellent show
You get to listen in on engaging people talking passionately about something they understand and care about. And then there were robot dogs powered by bees? It's pretty good.

    High minded game talk
High minded yes but super funny and heartfelt, a great, close group of friends and thoughtful gaming insiders. Always goes straight to the top of my playlist.

    Always fun, mature, engaging
This show offers great discussions of current games, old games and occasionally things totally unrelated to games. It is clear that the hosts are all good friends, which I think is important for a weekly podcast. The thing I value most about this show is the perfect balance between humour, maturity and great insight from the viewpoint of game devs. A massive Thumbs up from down under.

    Game changer
Quite how you came to be reading these words, I am not sure. I am sure, however, surer than nick brekkon about anything (that's not really saying much) that the Idle Thumbs Podcast is one of the greatest ever pieces of audio that was ever regularly recorded, digitised and cast into ones face. You should stop reading this babble and take my word for it. Go. Go now...

    It's all fun and games
The crew at Idle Thumbs present a lively, entertaining and informative podcast that is easy to listen to and a lot of fun. Most of the discussion is centred around video games and the video game industry but there are often diversions into other random topics, much as you would expect from any conversation among friends. You can tell that these guys have a lot of fun in making the podcast (there are numerous running jokes) and that makes it so much more of a joy to listen to. Their combined experience in game development and journalism allow them to offer informed and insightful commentary on current trends in gaming. Any regular gamer is sure to enjoy this podcast.

    Awesome
Just like listening to your friends talking about games, but sexier.
  • Aplaytapus
    Super good
It's what I crave. Not for babies.

    Super Good
I prefer this video game podcast over the various others I have tried because the podcasters go into the aesthetics and the underlying structure and concepts of games instead of just talking about a game being good or fun. And on top of that they are funny.

    Game chats
Love this show. It's a good mix of casual conversation about games, and some in-depth discussions about some more in-depth topics on video game making, philosophy of games, and such like. Also there are some ridiculous yet entertaining diversions, sometimes about Jeff Goldbum.

    Needs more cliché
I'm blown away by this podcast. This killer app gives you a visceral, high-octane experience with a totally unexpected and unique twist. It should be considered the Citizen Kane of podcasts. 9.98/10

    Consider yourself reviewed
Listen in for an insightful discussion of the latest games by industry luminaries. You'll learn their likes and dislikes, laughing along the way, and maybe even pick up some useful advice to apply in your own game development activities.

    Inspiration for my own podcast
This is truly a great podcast, and one that has been an inspiration to me making my own podcast! Everything is interesting, and so many awesome games reviewed.

    The Citizen Kane of Podcasts.
Do you like games? How about video games? Hey, me too. Which is why you should be listening to idle thumbs right now, but instead you're reading this review. So do yourself a favour, stop checking out what other people think, grab yourself an episode to listen to, and come to realise that this podcast is what your life was missing! You can trust this internet stranger when he tells you that you won't be disappointed…probably.

A gaming podcast what doesn't take itself seriously~
Idle Thumbs is a gaming podcast made by a close group of friends whom each have experience in the video games industry. With little structure,m each episode feels like you are simply privy to a smart, funny and often insightful conversation amongst friends and not a dry, forced opinion piece by journalists or 'hardcore' gamers. I have found that re-listening to old episodes is highly enjoyable due to their humour and insights instead of just focusing on current news or headlines. Highly Recommended for anyone wanting an amusing, intelligent (but never too serious) gaming podcast.

The best video game podcast above sea level
Here in Australia, video-games are a strange, arcane concept. The Idle Thumbs videogame podcast helps to ease Australians into the magical world of games and Wizards. The countdown to tears has well and truly begun. Also, Ultra-Boost.

    Great podcast
    Funny and informative.

    Entertaining and informative
Enthusiastic, humorous, well-considered and informed opinion on video games, the industry and associated culture without the pretense and formula of lesser podcasts.

    Thoughtful game discussion
Week after week, idle thumbs delivers thoughtful and creative discussion around games. I especially appreciate that the focus is on a broad range of games and gaming topics, not just blockbusters and shooters.
  • Texas Hogride
    Both Thumbs Up
Hands down the best video game podcast available. Insightful and Hilarious - a rare combination. You'll get know about games you might otherwise have overlooked as well as experience otherwise hard-to-find Far Cry 2 appreciation.
  • Egan Wesener
    Awesome - Highly Recommended
These guys have their thumbs firmly on the pulse of today's gaming scene and, at times, have made me laugh out loud on crowded buses. Can't wait for the next one. Keep up the good work!

    Hilarity, Insight, Videogames
I rely on Boost, Videogames, Scoops, Famous and F'Nick for all my indie game recommendations. They seem to find interesting, thought provoking and amazing games, and then talk about them.
  • Street Poet
    Transcendent. Also: Good.
You want incredibly thoughtful discussions of video games by intelligent people? Yet you also want something incredibly funny and charming that's hard to put down? Well, I mean, who are you to make these demands? Some might find your picky nature to be an incredibly unattractive quality. Luckily, the Idle Thumbs podcast will inevitably be the ray of sunshine to pick you back up from this bleak realisation. It will be the ray of sunshine in the good times of your life too. Idle Thumbs is all the rays of sunshine.

I have been a reader of the Idle Thumbs "poddy" for a long time. It features voices, games, and noises. You will be sad by the games they say, like Cart Life and Frog Fractions. Collect the thumbs and be a star, idle-thumbs.museam !!! Help

    The Wizard... is back
Still great after all this time. The Idle Thumbs Video Computer Game Internet Radio Podcast is back casting pods into your ears. Hot Scoops is replacing Nick as the team tried to tackle the ever-present question of, "What is Game?". IGN says, "It will blow you away"!

    That's the stuff
After a successful Kickstarter Idle Thumbs is back, and have picked up right where they left off. One of the most insightful gaming podcasts around, but still manages to lapse into ridiculous and hilarious stories and anecdotes. The progress-casts during the Kickstarter made me hesitant, but the full episodes since have been great and show why so many people demanded this podcast come back.
  • mech4bg
    Best gaming podcast evar.
    Hilarious and informative. Get it!
  • Marandthings
    Hilarious, insightful. Also, video games.
Idle Thumbs is the best video game podcast going right now. Their discussions are insightful and their humour is completely off the wall. Production is also top notch. Even if you aren't into video games you'll find something of value here. Because whatever they are talking about they do it in a way that will either leave you in fits of laughter or attempting to hold it all back and looking like one of those strange people you see on the bus making weird facial movements for seemingly no reason at all. The reality is they're also listening to Idle Thumbs, maybe.
  • Yalbit
    Great podcast.
One of the best podcasts around. Mixed with great humor and interesting discussions on the game industry and game design. Wizard FTW!

    Games? Video games.
Easily the best video game podcast running at the moment. If you don't believe me, then just give the GDC09 episodes a listen. Truely informative, and hilarious. Support amazing podcasting talent. Highly recommended.
