    Foundational
Mike Duncan is a modern Edward Gibbon. He did for revolutionary history what that man did for Rome.

    AMAZING!!!
This is my favorite podcast. I am still. In elementary school and a love for history. I love it because he puts in so much amazing facts I makes simple enough that I can understand what he is talking about. This is really a amazing podcast!

Riveting retelling of history. Narrated in a way that is easy to absorb but still engaging.

    Best history podcast by far
This is my favorite podcast of all time. Mike makes the content approachable and digestible for the layperson. His hardeeharhar awkward dad sense of humor and little quips can be riotously hilarious and often come totally out of the blue. I look forward to them most of all. Please recommend to all your mates!!! Much love from Japan <3

    Very Enjoyable Listen…
Excellent vocal tone, great sense of humor. very well verses in his subject matter, as he was with the History of Rome. Unfortunately, since all these historical events run concurrently across ALL the revolutions it is often necessary to refer back to other revolutions to tell the overall history. Also, since he tells the narrative as it unfolds, unfortunately he is forever backing up in chronological time to introduce characters as they appear, instead of relaying each revolution year by year, which is audibly tedious. Otherwise, highly recommend.

Decline and fall of feudal society
Mike gracefully stumbles into a remarkable story tying together the lives and antics of curious characters from all across the Atlantic. It is tragic, heroic, and most importantly, revolutionary. It took him like 10 years to write and produce this podcast. It was worth it. Historians will cite it as they do Gibbons.

    Soooo good
I don’t normally write reviews but this podcast is just so good! I couldn’t imagine a more perfectly done history podcast. So grateful to the host

    Mike: king of cliches
How many cliches and idioms can one put in one paragraph? Mike does the job.

I have now listened to all of both Revolutions and History of Rome and read one of Duncan’s books and I am a big fan.

Go for a walk, expand your mind
For hundreds of hours I’ve listened to Mike Duncan on walks with my newborn child. I am very grateful that my mundane strolling around town is turned into intellectual moments. Thank you so very much!

    Very centrist
About halfway through the final season on the Russian revolution and although it's helpful for broad brushstrokes, I'm also reading a scholarly history book on the same topic and I have to say, Mike's biases against the Bolsheviks and his sympathetic attitude towards certain reactionary figures in this story are pretty disappointing (and border on misinformation at times). I realized that I was listening to a centrist's account of revolutions when in the same episode Mike says the sentences "Tsar Nicholas II was a good and kind person" and "he was extremely antisemitic..."

    Great podcast!
I really enjoy this podcast. The subjects are interesting and the host speaks well with a nice pace. I’ve listened to all the episodes and find myself repeating them!

    A successor worth of Rome
What Mike Duncan took 10 years to produce I’ve listened to in 3. Don’t take that to mean I was bored with it because every episode of this is gold; I’m just easily distracted. This is a fantastic investment from the Ken Griffey Jr. of history podcasters; maybe I undersold that a little? Mike can tell you if I did or not. Anyway, listen to this podcast. It’s a sobering experience as you see the heights and depths of our shared history of revolutions.

    AMAZING
This is the best history podcast I have ever heard. I love it, and it is so immersive. I am only a kid, and that attributes to saying how awesome this is, for all audiences. I am done with it, and I think you should do Greek Independence or do the Cuban Revolution. If you give this less than 4 stars, you are a [something my mom would wash my mouth with soap for saying]. I am 12, this is amazing. So great. His books are great too. He also has a great voice compared to some podcasters and audiobook readers. GREATEST I HAVE EVER heard. Don’t criticize his adds or political views, don’t let that get in the way of a great podcast , no matter what you think. I love it so much I have been listening to it every day. I am told that I should marry it, I love it so much

    Best podcast ever by far
I love this podcast! I have listened to every episode of every season at least twice, it’s so good. My favorite seasons are seasons 1 and 3, but they are all very good, even the Russian Revolution season. Check out the History of Rome podcast and his two books as well.

    Simply amazing
This podcast is fantastic, Mike brings expertly researched material into a highly entertaining and educational narrative podcast. His humor and passion for history shine through, I thoroughly enjoyed every episode of the entire series. I wish I could give this more than 5 stars. Thank you Mr Duncan.

    Love love love this podcast
Found this when I wanted a concise run through of the Russian Revolution and didn’t know I could enjoy a history podcast so much! Revisited to cover the American Revolution before an upcoming trip to Williamsburg and binged it in a few days, which I was definitely not expecting! Such a great resource.

    Great Podcast
Big fan! I listen anytime I’m on a long drive in Texas.

    Don’t listen to the trolls
Most negative reviews of this podcast focus on Mike’s personal political views or something he said in a single episode that offended someone or about his book promotions (those are jokes for his longtime listeners, and Mike’s books are great). Mike Duncan does an excellent job keeping his own politics out of the history he’s telling. And if it’s telling from the reviews he’s offended both right and left, which is a sign of good presentation. If you’re looking for a history podcast, you can’t do better. Mike Duncan is a master craftsman who built this genre from the ground up back in the early days of podcasting. I can’t recommend him enough.

    Please Reconsider!!!
Mike I hope you reconsider this plan to do basically what sounds like an NPR “book worm” show where two progressives give the rest of us yet another patronizing lecture on what they think of this or that book. Sounds absolutely awful and unlistenable. Let me save you from this crazy idea- don’t do it! Just coming across your Twitter, it’s too partisan for me. I don’t believe people want more of that. Instead take 6 months rest with the family and come up with a suitable subject and even include Alexis if that’s what you want. Save this review- you’ll thank me later. Regardless, I enjoyed years of this Podcast and thought you did a great job and want to thank you for a job well done!

    Brilliant, thorough, engaging
Love all of Mike’s work. He puts so much into his episodes and shows. I’ve learned so much listening to him and reading his books. Will miss the Revolutions podcast, but absolutely will follow Mike onto whatever he does next.

    POG
Always included in the episodes is a dig at traditional Western Civilization and culture. He forgets who birthed and nurtured him. Just stay in the rear and dig yourself a super deep fighting hole in case the mosquitoes are aggressive.

    So thorough
The perfect balance of detail and pace. I’m so grateful for this podcast.

    Simply the Best!
What more can be said about this amazing podcast? I’ve listened to most of this show’s seasons multiple times (the French Revolution four times now) and will definitely be listening to them again in the (most likely near) future. This is as good as podcasts get.

Incredibly detailed, masterful storytelling, and does lull you to sleep like other historical podcasts might. 5/5 for sure.

    Truly exceptional
I have listened to every word Mike Duncan has recorded for over a decade. He is truly one of those people who made podcasts what they have become. The Revolutions podcast is probably one of the greatest things he ever did not just for the sheer amount of history and material he covered, but also for his wry humor and humility, and the way he was able to condense it, make it, understandable, engage with his audience, and direct listeners to the places where you could succeed in making a deeper dive into the historical subjects. Bravo.

    Amazing Podcast
Both of Mike’s books are great and his podcasting style and attention to detail is incredible. He’s definitely one of the giants of historical podcasting. I just wish he didn’t stop with the Russian Revolution, but I really can’t blame him for it after years and years of dedication to the topic.

An incredible, mind-opening epic by an amazing author
About 8 years ago, a friend and I were randomly chatting about history. When he found out we were both fans of the topic, both amateur students in a way, he recommended Mike Duncan’s The History of Rome. “Bro, it’s really long but wow you learn so much and his voice is incredible! Also, it gets better as you go along!” I was not disappointed. Duncan’s first podcast provided detailed accounts of one of the great civilizations of human history in short, digestible chunks that I could listen to on my commute or at the gym. It was the first podcast I ever subscribed to. A few years later, Mike finished Rome and moved on to Revolutions, and wow! This entire saga has been a masterpiece. While maintaining relatively short episodes, averaging 30-50 mins, he detailed over not just the events of several major revolutions, but the causes, the histories, how the global situation affected and was interwoven with local events, the aftermath, and you walk away feeling far, far more informed. His series on Haiti was absolutely mind opening and heartbreaking, a revolutionary story not nearly as well known as France, the United States, or Russia. To cap it all off, Mike spent the past three years largely focused on the Russian Revolution, one of the most impactful and complex in modern history. But more than simply telling their tale, by placing this revolution at the end, we see how the previous events in France, South America, Germany, England, and other places he discussed all influenced Russian revolutionaries, leading to the final breakdown of ancient monarchical empires at the beginning of the 20th century, setting the stage for our modern global order. This massive podcast may seem daunting to get into, but its smaller, digestible chunks are easy to approach, Duncan’s voice soothing and reassuring, and soon you’ll be engrossed in the stories that have shaped our world for the past four centuries!

    Good bye my teacher
You have made learning a joy for me. I waited each week ( on Thursdays ) for something I could sink my teeth into. I am somewhat sad - I can only hope that you take on another task that we(selfishly I ) can learn about down the road. Thank you my Teacher
