Maybe don’t tell certain stories in a happy go lucky / business as usual tone
The host seemed alil too pleased to tell me about the three black students killed in the Orangeburg massacre. Very off putting.

    Great podcast!
I look forward to each new episode!

    Repeats and ads
I do love this show and telling people something happens today on a year when it’s pertinent to them. The new host seems to take a lot of days off for someone who produces a 5 minute show 5 days a week. It feels a bit like they gave someone a side project more than a full time job. Holidays are repeats like they make the show the morning it airs and not weeks prior. As a lot of people point out, there are a lot of ads. I just have my player set to start 2:00 into the show by default and end 2:00 from the end. The new host is clearly into animation and pop culture. I wouldn’t mind more things with historical significance being thrown in.

    This show is just ads.
Honestly, more than 1/3 of this show is ads. It's a 10-minute show with 4 minutes worth of ads. This is shameless. Stop it.

50% ads and boring host who mispronounces things
It seriously is about 50/50 content to ads. It’s ridiculous.

+25% ads. Used to be a good show
I listened to this show initially because I like the hosts and I like the content. Yves is great at her job. I don’t mind some ads and I understand that the advertising is one of the reasons I get this for free. However, the huge amount on this relatively brief podcast is ridiculous. I have timed the amount of ads and it’s usually 25%. I think that worse than broadcast television. What’s worse is that sometimes the ads are repeated within the show! This is just my opinion, but a 10 minute show should not have the same amount of ads as a show that is 4x longer. (stuff you missed in history class) I have threatened to stop listening to the show, but I still really like it. I forward through most of the many ads. Update: The show has gotten so much worse since Yves left. Despite having too many ads, the content, used to be compelling. The topics seem to now be unremarkable moments in pop culture.

    Great content, host is boring
The content is always varied and interesting, but the host is so boring and monotonous that I find it hard to listen to.

    Enjoy
I really enjoy hearing these little nuggets of history. Perfect length imo. Highly recommend!

    What Fun!
I love this show. It’s consistently informative and often amusing. The length is perfect, the host is articulate and the subjects are variable. Let’s face it - this stuff is just fun to listen to! Bravo!!!

    Love it!
Very well made and I love the content it provides.

    Amazing!
I absolutely love it! It’s very informative, but still entertaining.

    Love this podcast!
The new host is great. I’m so happy we aren’t getting more reruns like we have been for what seemed like years. I enjoy the more whimsical topics such as Weird Al or Paul McCartneys Christmas song as well as the first interracial kiss on tv via Star Trek.

    Just another woke Podcast
I was initially so excited to learn about daily history but then I started to listen to a few episodes and this is just another podcast written by apologetic, woke folks who have a political agenda, thinly veiled by a history podcast.

So glad they brought it back
This was one of my favorite shows. The new host, Gabe, is incredibly well researched and seems like the nicest dude. Was missing this one so I’m glad they revived it!

    Concern
The show used to be excellent at reporting history. Recently the show seems to be adding a lot of editorial commentary. Originally started listening because of the history. I do not like to change to editorial comments in the midst

    Reboot is fantastic
I have listened to this podcast from the beginning on my morning walk. I have always enjoyed the snippets of history. But the new host Gabe Luzier has been exceptional. The topic choices, the research, the writing, the pacing, even the new music I have greatly enjoyed. Thanks so much for this extra bit of daily happiness Gabe!

    Host
I have been listening long enough to be on my third host. Gab is my favorite! Easy to listen to, great inflection, does not interject his personal beliefs. Great podcast!

    New host & format
The host does a great job of not just providing information but tells a story.
  • emd246
    Great, informative show!
Started listening to this show on my commute now that they’re posting new episodes, and I love it! The new host’s done a great job of offering a wide range of fun bits of history so far and I’m excited to keep listening to hear what’s next.

    Was a delightful show
This show was one of the highlights that helped me through the long months of lockdown. The new season changes seem to have lost the principles that Yves instilled.

Pretty interesting, but the ads are awful.
Well produced, good sound. The main thing I didn’t love was that on days that they cover two topics, I often wasn’t interested in the first one. I listen to podcasts while driving, and it wasn’t easy to fast forward to the second topic. I wish they would cover just one topic per day or offer more than one episode per day each with only one topic. Additionally some of the ads are really terrible, one was constantly talking about going to the bathroom at a gas station. I basically unfollowed for that reason.
  • Lperkows
    Not well produced
The music background during the content makes it super hard to focus on the content, and it’s insanely irritating. The stories are interesting but I just gave up trying to listen because I couldn’t focus on the story. The ads are also too long for the length of the podcast, but I could deal with that if there wasn’t a music background.
  • galaxygirl56
    Eh
Tracey and Holly (old host) are better not a fan of the new host. Like the podcast very informative but a lot of ads not to bad if you fast forward through those parts.
  • DorStar
Worst show I’ve ever listened to
I love history, I love documentaries, so the fact that this show is the worst podcast I’ve ever heard is entirely related to how flat a delivery the narrator cannot seem to escape from... please do not inflict further Trauma to listeners... I get it’s like a non actor being picked for a fantastic role... they don’t have the inner confidence and intuition needed to pull it off... it’s like when Madonna kept trying acting roles... great as a charismatic singer, but she couldn’t pull off a believable and non-wooden acting role... This podcast host is possibly just a bit too green and young and it’s certainly a worthy goal... but she is so flat and wooden that there is zero enjoyment in listening to it...

    Way too many ads.
    Way too many ads

    Love the show
I play your show everyday thanks so much i love the way youPronounce everything

    Always interesting
I like this podcast. It doesn’t just mention what happened on that day, but this podcast gives a brief but thorough background summary. A wide variety of subjects are covered. Yves, the host, does an excellent job.

Props for the speaker/writer for her approach and down-to-earth style. I also appreciate the quality of the research. An everyday part of my world!

    Lots of commercials
I do like the podcast, however it seems to have many commercials. Sometimes I think there is more commercial than content
  • Hotdawgz
    :D
It’s a good show! And the ads don’t really bother me. I mean, this is free content sooo....
  • pattilyn2
    Great listening
I like the variety in introducing the podcast: “a tidbit of history “ or “a tickle of your earbuds” (maybe not Yves actual words). Yves presents more diversity rather than just summarizing topics from Stuff You Missed in History Class.
  • ameliaalejandra
    On the fence.
Update: Disappointed, had to unsubscribe. The amount of ads is absolutely ridiculous and the background music during the second part of the episode is too loud and distracting. I loved this podcast but it’s become obnoxious every time I put it on. ••• I love this show, it’s nice and short yet still informative. I do have one criticism, I dislike the background music they play during the actual episode. Like while the host, Yves, is speaking there’s this odd elevator type music playing and most of the time I can ignore it while listening to her but lately it’s been more loud and distracting. I haven’t been able to finish the last two episodes because the background music was just too obnoxious.

    Pronunciation?!?
Oh, Baby, no! You did a whole story about the calliope without knowing how it’s pronounced? Have you never heard Manfred Mann sing “Blinded by the Light ”(written by Springsteen)? And in Massachusetts, Worcester is not pronounced like the sauce, it sounds more like “rooster.” Between you and Vogelbaum, you really need to check pronunciations if you want to be taken seriously. Maybe IHeart needs some staff who are over 50 and have been outside of Atlanta.

    Seriously?
I really like this podcast, but it’s getting to be more ad than show.

Yves is a talented writer and researcher. Her beautiful alto voice is easy to listen to. I hope to hear her on more and longer formats

If I want to hear old episodes, I can find them in the feed
I’ve really enjoyed listening to This Day in History Class since nearly the beginning. I love the tone and style that Yves brings to her storytelling, with a great mix of notable and lesser-known people and events. But about a month ago the publishers started an incredibly annoying “double feature” where they rerun an old episode before the new current episode. This is a blatant excuse to insert more ads into the feed, and it also makes the whole podcast too long. I loved This Day in History Class because it was short (less than 10 minutes) yet still informative and entertaining. Yves’ content is still wonderful. But I’m not going to bother listening when I have to skip past the year-old episodes that I don’t need to re-listen to, just to get to the good stuff— every day. I’ve sadly unsubscribed. If the publishers stop inserting old episodes, I’ll happily start listening again.

    Top Notch
I’ve like this podcast since the beginning, but the sound design continues to get better and more interesting. I’m also happy to finally have a daily podcast that includes the weekends in their definition of daily! Thank you! Amending my review to dock stars ONLY because of the jarringly AWFUL ads that have NOTHING to do with...... anything really. Did they really poll the audience of this fantastic podcast and determine that this audience wants to hear annoying radio jock style ads?? Still love the content but that quality is the only thing that could get me to suffer through the same style of ads that sent people running from traditional radio.

    Info nuggets
Just the right length to learn something new every day. The ads really do run longer than the actual content tho which is frustrating. I hope they begin to make new episodes again soon
  • Harmakis7
    No new episode?
Been listening to this podcast for a while. Yes the commercials are a pain as others mentioned but I suffered through since I liked the show. Sadly, it seems that they are not making new episodes anymore. Repeating shows that have been repeated before and such... so.. I’ll unsubscribe now.:(

Yves, keep up the great work!
Yves, keep up the great work. I have listened to this podcast from the beginning with both hosts and continue to love it! These history tidbits are part of my daily listening routine. Thank you for bringing joy and learning to my day.
  • LaReyna1515
    Awesome !
I love learning something new every day! The important facts and events are all jam packed into a small episode and I think it’s genius. Thanks!
  • olli79a
    Commercials are terrible
I completely understand the reason for free content containing commercials. Someone has to help pay the bills. However, there are between 1 and 2 minutes at the beginning and another 1 to 2 at the end with 4 to 5 minutes of content in the middle. The extreme larding of Yves podcast with commercials is really unfortunate since she is really making a great and informative podcast.

    Unsubscribed
Loved learning a little about history on my morning commute but now the commercials are longer than the actual history portion. Trying to skip ahead through 2+ minutes of commercials to get to the actual podcast is a nuisance. I’ve unsubscribed.

A Fabulous Dose of History for Busy History Nerds
I love the little daily doses of history that Yves provides. The topic are intriguing, and are delivered in an engaging way! Great host, great music (that intro slaps!), great topics. Thanks, How Stuff Works (and iHeart Radio, apparently)!

    Fantastic quick quip
This podcast is short, informative, yet thorough. Recommend for those wanting to add to their history knowledge in short bursts.

    Sorry, had to unsubscribe
This was a nice addition to my queue, but now I’m getting this years, last years, extras. They used to be marked, but not anymore. Sad goodbye.

    A Quick & Fascinating Fave
I love history podcasts and shows, and this is one of my favorites, for sure. I didn’t get interested in history until just a couple of years ago (I’m 30) when I started being treated for adult ADD and—surprise surprise!—I now really love learning. One of my favorite mediums for history content = podcasts, and this particular show has taught me so much since I subscribed. The host’s voice is very calming, which is ideal since it makes the show ideal for AM and pre-bedtime listening, i.e. when I enjoy podcasts most. The episodes are the perfect length to listen to while commuting, waiting in a doctor’s office, doing my makeup in the morning, etc. Side note to the pronunciation-critiquing crowd: Please consider how much work goes into researching, writing, & recording an episode, and how impressively frequent this show’s cadence is. I’ve never noticed anything mispronounced, but I also don’t care (I’m a magazine editor and I’m 100% sure I mispronounce things we write about all the time; it happens all the time, and it’s surprisingly hard to find examples of exact pronunciation for every place/name/etc). Chill out in the petty commentary and try enjoying your podcast time instead. One last thing: I would love to see groupings of thematically tied episodes someday! BBC Witness does this and I love it since it makes it simple to find topics I enjoy and to recommend small batches of episodes to people. (I don’t think this show already has that kinda structure available on iTunes, but if not, I think it’d be fantastic.)
