I don’t come from a marketing background but this show has a way of pulling me in. The stories are fascinating and the principles can be applied to life.

As an alum of BBDO NY and McCann NY among other many other agencies this show is fun.

Used to be a fantastic podcast; didn’t bring political preaching to its work, just solidly excellent stories about the media and advertising industries. Then it apparently “found religion,” and now you can’t go two segments without hearing about identitarianism. They’ll make a believer out of you yet, don’t ya know. Oh, well. It was nice while it lasted.

I’ve always had both a marketing fascination and a marketing instinct! It’s an entire other planet that controls so much of this one! Nothing brings you front row center to that world’s many layers as Under The Influence! Oh, and I love his voice!

It’s interesting to listen to the early TV voiceovers, all of the comedic spots used a similar dead-pan, flat sounding voice. Terry does a fantastic job of examining the many facets of advertising and marketing, from specific product campaigns to generic styles and genres, from the history of album art to reasons why the color red is chosen, it’s all here in perfect, bite-sized episodes! Equal parts educational and entertaining, I can’t recommend this pod enough!

I love this podcast when I’m looking for an easy listen. He discusses some interesting topics and is very knowledgeable about all the topics he discusses.

I listen to many different podcasts and very few work so well with only a single voice, yet Terry O'Reilly, the host of CBC's Under the Influence pulls it off as well as anyone can. The stories make so many products and companies I encounter or have heard of interesting in ways I never would have imagined. The writing is superb, and often quite witty and humorous. This is a fave! Highly recommended.

I love Under the influence, is highly addictive show. Love all the facts I truly find it highly entertaining and educational. Thank you for making such an amazing show downloaded all the sessions to catch up on the show. Heard it on SiriusXM CBC and looked for it on podcast and now I listen to every where I can. Truly genius!

I have listened to the podcast for years and am enjoying going through the catalog. Only complaint is that the announcements of the podcast availability, theme song, credits and ads take up almost as much space as the show and are spread around the show and not easily skippable. I understand that you may want to leave the “.ca” etc but help your loyal listeners skip past the theme music and credits and ‘download wherever’ bits!!

At first I wasn’t sure what to think about the show but as I have a list and then over the last year I have realized it is a bit of a time capsule , History lesson, cultural enlightenment and so much more all in 30 minutes wow Canada finally something better than maple syrup ! Plus as a bonus all the previous episodes are available to be listened and cherished and to be passed around like some religious text thank you Terry !

I have a number of podcasts that I listen to weekly, many of them thoughtful and thought -provoking. However, the insights, wit, and production brilliance of this show stands apart from all the others. I rarely wax this ecstatic but this show had earned my highest praise From the general construction of the production with the lead in story, where you wonder where Terry is going to take you, to every detail, especially the choice of music interludes, and the incredible intelligence of the writing, each and every episode, without exception, a complete delight and always enlightening! I look forward to every episode. I almost always have to listen to it twice or thrice to get the full appreciate it is so dense with content. If I had only one podcast to choose from, Under The Influence would be the one.

Was a religious listener when he was on iTunes but when he left that medium I couldn’t get any more of the program. Just happen to do a quick search all this time later and here is my favorite podcast again!

I’m not from Canada... I have no connection to the ad industry... and yet this is one of my favorite podcasts! The story telling is fabulous and the show is well edited and produced.
