    Loved this show
Too bad it was eaten by the traditional "news of the day"... NEXT DRAFT is interesting too
  • TheDoctor205
Listened every day for the last 6 months...
I’m disappointed that the show has been cancelled. I liked the previous host a lot, he was always very personable in his reporting. Now that he’s gone, it’s sorta become your typical “news of the day” podcast. And now it’s over 😕

    The perfect news headlines podcast
It hits the sweet spot. Not too short, not too long. I am disappointed that it is being cancelled.

2 stars because this podcast keeps blathering in monotone advertising voice about other wapo podcasts - the content to plug ratio is absurd - I have to stop whatever I’m doing and fast forward fast forward fast forward until I don’t even remember what the episode was about to begin with. the monotone nagging does not convince me to pay (more) or listen to whatever other podcasts are offered. Perhaps limit yourselves to one plug per episode?

    No more Daily 202
I am sorry to hear the Daily 202 will be nolonger.
  • aetheron_hio
    Will miss this podcast
I will miss this podcast. The short discussion of the biggest issues was extremely helpful in keeping updated but not having to waste too much time to get through the issues.
  • WLH1957
    Noooooo!!!!
How could you cancel The Daily 202’s Big Idea?!?!?!
  • stacey94610
Excellent show with the highlights you need to know, when you can get it
I like to start my mornings off listening to this because it catches me up on what I may have missed the day before. It’s just short enough and meaningful enough that it doesn’t take away from my normal daily news consumption and catches me up on the days that I can’t consume the news that’s happening. My only critique, which is why I give four stars, is that it’s not really the “daily 202.” It’s the “weekday 202.” And some days the podcasts don’t show up during the weekdays so it’s the “mostly weekday 202,” if we’re being completely accurate. Which the post always strives to be. Also, +1 for Arjun.

    I’m back
Decided to give a listen to see if host problem was addressed - Very happy to find Arjun! Subscribing again Previously Ditto ejcrew; I too miss John. This person just reads, sounds bored. Sigh. It had a good run.
  • Loganfool
    Boring
If he can’t replace James, get another show started. This is a depressing let down.Headfirst after James left, the talk was too fast. Now it’s way too slow. It’s like you’re talking to somebody whose first language is not English. Dead sea squirrels? Come on guys! You’ve become such a rag. You make it sound like the White House disrespected Megan. That’s how it reads and I think that you’re going Fox.
  • Dipper66
    Glad James is back!
Thanks for bringing James back. This is how the new should be read. I’ve subscribed anew.
  • Storlietelling
    Missing James Hohmann
So much better today (3/22) with new host. I’ll stick with you if you don’t go back to the female host who read the news like a scared college freshman who got called on the read out loud in class.
  • bdowneyyyy
    PLEASE KEEP Arjun!!!
Arjun and Darla have been the best Please please don’t get rid of them!!!
  • AnneUK77
    Week presenters
This used to be an excellent and credible podcast. It is now painful and I mainly skip them do you to the poor speaking abilities of the presenters. I hate to say it but they’re all female. Incorrect intonation run words together high pitch voice is just can’t listen to any more. Get a credible presenter and I’ll be back!
  • komet44
Really Miss This Podcast But ...
Without James Hohmann it is not the same. He really gave the news stories depth and seemed to actually care about what he read. I would always listen to this podcast first thing in the morning but a month ago I unsubscribed.

    End of a long-time listener
I’ve been listening since this podcast launched and found it valuable. And now, with sincere respect to the current “host,” I just can’t take Charla’s voice. It’s high-pitched and I find I just can’t listen to it read a script at me. We need a new host.
  • Sentry581
    Get a new host
I listened daily until you recently switched hosts. Now it’s just lacking. Sounds like she’s reading from a poorly rehearsed script. There are a lot of places to get a daily news update. Now I’m listening to NPR instead. Sad.
  • Rockosaurus
    Needs a better host
I listened to this podcast for at least two years, but have decided to go to other sources for morning news. It’s still providing good information, but Jordan needs to be coached or replaced. The cadence of her speech is annoyingly slow, and her tone occasionally smug, but always sounds like she’s reading from a script. I’ve unsubscribed.
  • Anne’s itunes
    We have a winner!
Monday’s announcer was painfully slow and has a snarky sounding tone at the end of her prolonged words. Please give us back Charla. She’s the only one who sounded conversational. Not speed reading. I don’t want to Jordan’s snarky sounding (she might be nice but...) those drawn out vowels at the end of words is sending me over the edge.
  • CoffeeDogsPolitics
    Info good; reader less so
I find this new host to be difficult to listen to. Her emphasis doesn’t fit the sentence and confuses the meaning somewhat.
  • anitamombanita
    Please bring back James Hohmann
The Daily202 was my go-to 1st news source in the morning. James Hohmann delivered a concise thoughtful message each episode that I always looked forward to. The current commentators seem to be just reading from a script written by someone else with no personal knowledge or stake in what they are reading. The valley-girl voices drive me nutso! And it’s not because they are women; it is because of their delivery. There are plenty of strong capable intelligent women who are podcasters/ announcers/commentators. I don’t care if it’s a man or a woman; I do care that the person delivering the comments actually seems to have a take on the news. I’m finding myself turning it off within the first 3 minutes. Please fix this!!!
  • sdfgh45
    A better reader, please!
“The Big Idea” has been my required morning listen for almost a year. It’s been a great podcast. But it has recently become much less easy to listen to. James Hohmann was marvelous. Maybe no one can replace him. But you now have someone reading aloud who is clearly new to it, whose pauses and stresses don’t always fit the text. That’s hard to listen to. Reading aloud really well takes experience. That’s why authors aren’t always the best readers of their own work. Please, please, appoint a reader who can be listened to easily!! The podcast really suffers without it.
  • Mksach
    James where are you!
Unfortunately without him this podcast is no longer the same
  • SmokeyMok
    Sounds like teleprompter
The reading of the news is now disconcertingly stilted, awkward. I would get rid of the teleprompter as a way to slow it down. Get a trainer for reading delivery. It’s an art form. Practice, practice, practice the delivery.
  • Jimp1212

Jordan Marie Smith must have found the last supply of quaaludes on the planet. Three weeks ago I loved this podcast. James Holeman moved on OK, I understand that, but I can't continue to listen to this.
  • Dcommuter
I also preferred the old host
Like a lot of reviewers I also preferred the old more detailed version with the previous host. The new version seems less informative.
  • Melccoug
Why is the new host talking so slow?
This podcast has become hard to listen to with the new hosts. The host is speaking so slowly. Had to turn it off.
  • ejcrewe
    What happened?
I miss James Hohman. The past two days is row the reader has either repeated complete sentences or the Post has stopped editing. James had soul. He was connected to his stories. And to his listeners. I subscribe to the post and can scan the headlines in my own. Sad to see a once great news source flame our
  • SarahLynnSD
    I miss James :-(
This was one of my favorite daily podcasts until James left. It now feels like someone is just reading a script. You change the hosts so often it makes it difficult to feel any amount of loyalty to the pod. James has big shoes to fill, but c’mon...you’re The Washington Post. Surely you have other excellent reporters who can make this podcast their own. Please PLEASE work on making this what it once was. I’m *this* close to giving up on you, but I’ll hold on awhile longer. I still trust the reporting, but find it completely uninteresting to listen to.
  • ifitsnotbaroque
    Missing James but keep Charla!
James did a great job but now that he’s moving on I hope Charla is the new regular host. I enjoy listening to her!
  • NigelVB
    Not worth the time
Very disappointing, delivery is terrible, seems like the writing is aimed at eight-year-olds. This is NOT up to Washington Post standards, or at least my expectations.
  • Mystique1225
    I loved this podcast...
I say loved, because I loved how you get a good, detailed update, and it is straight to the point, but I miss James presenting it.You can say a lot about how the story reaches you based on who is presenting it, and I felt like he always put his heart and soul into each story, so it was a very human touch. I talk fast, but I feel like speed through the stories now.
  • Santa Catia
    Slow down!!
    I can’t listen anymore. What’s the rush?
  • Will J 11
    I miss James H
I enjoyed listening to James in the morning with his commentary and reporting. 5 stars before he left. Some of the new podcaster are reading fast and add little to the news besides reading the highlights. It's not the same...
  • emmanuel corrales
    Talk me
I feel like you’re just reading down a list. Treats us like a friend over the phone.
  • JtotheHerm
    Miss Hohmann
Seems to be going downhill w/o Hohmann. Episodes rushed, like the new folks are just covering and not actually invested. I know it’s supposed to be a quick daily news podcast, but 8-9 minutes isn’t enough to give enough detail to most of the stories.
  • little halos
    Unlistenable
Bring back James Holman or get rid of this infomercial on high speed.
  • jlw1974
    Slow Down!
I listen every day but the new reporters are talking to fast. It’s finished and I feel like I lost part of it. I liked the three things we should pay attention to.
  • icrhw13579
Need someone better to fill James’s shoes
The original host left at the start of the year. WaPo has been trying new hosts but they’ve all been mediocre.
  • Rb2019-06-02
    Ruined after James Holman
Reporters after James Holman rattling off the news so fast my brain hurts trying to process the Information.
  • Melissaschu10976421
    James? Come back, buddy.
Now is not the time for this podcast to lean decidedly neocon. The new host shared misleading information about school COVID infections yesterday. Today I don’t want to hear her report her speculation that the trumpers already have a leg up for 2022. Knock it off. Bring back James. You want us to subscribe? Don’t turn into fox.
  • Kamenikki
It went down hill after James left
I miss you James already. It’s only been two days and I already dislike this podcast enough to stop listening to it.
  • Jenjelang
    I miss James!!
I can’t say that I will continue to listen without James, however.
  • amst
    Sad to see you go
Thanks James Hohmann. I listened every day with my daughter. We came to rely upon you and trust your voice. I’m a subscriber so I look forward to finding you on the opinions pages.
  • Katy88j
    I’ll really miss you
I listen every morning and really appreciate your take on the news—succinct, smart, and human. I am a WAPO subscriber and will look for you there. I will really miss your voice.
  • Sargent Salt
    Thanks James
What a great send-off. It brought a tear to my eye. I’ll keep listening. It’s been an important show for me...
  • TimDot0707
    Untimely updates
I use this podcast along with three others each morning. I use all Apple devices. This show must have a bankers hours. Updates should be ready by 6 AM central time, but recently they have regularly been much later.
  • LRMH2
    Gets me through current mess
Thanks for your clear, forceful communication. I look forward to your analysis.
  • JLBond
    Succinct, pointed and extremely informative
I’m a fan of this style and the positions/content presented. One of my few go-to’s — especially when I have limited time to listen
  • austin78704
    Reading way too fast!
The person replacing the host during the holiday is reading the news way too fast. That speed makes it hard to follow. It’d be great if she slows down a bit or if, during editing, some breathing pauses are added.
