Jdw alaskaJ WallenderGreat stories. Quick and accurate. Love it
-
giantsbookEntertaining and educationalKing Kaufman finds such interesting nuggets from the past and tells the stories in such an engaging fashion. The episode on Randy Shilts was a real treat - a deep dive into a little remembered story of a real titan of journalism who plied his trade at the Chronicle.

miamimimaudeReally interesting.I like this podcast. However, I think it would be well served if King Kaufman didn't use such a grating "news presenter" voice. His voice when he's not reading copy is far more natural and pleasant.

tuesdayrecipeFor all history lovers, local or notThese are short and fun to listen to, and you will learn something every time you spin back in this audible time machine whether or not you are from the Bay Area. King Kaufman has the perfect century-spanning voice and great tidbits of historical detail, plus archival material from the Chronicle. I love the one on the Golden Spike.

Rob NeyerMy favorite daily tidbit...I listen to a lot of podcasts. Too many, maybe! And I find myself falling behind, just as I find myself with too many books I’ll never read. Which is the wonderful thing about NOT YOUR CENTURY. No matter what is happening, every day I’ve got the time for these quick history lessons, delivered with great skill by host King Kaufman. I haven’t missed an episode yet, and probably never will.

WmSleightWilsonMuholland and the St. Francis Dam collapse 1928Excellent, and a must-hear for any knucklehead California resident, bec it is one of the great stories of the 20th century. "Don't blame anyone else. You just fasten it on me." This is dynamite, one of the great California stories of the 20th century. When St Francis dam collapsed, it caused the second biggest total loss-of-life (other than SF earthquake) in Cal. The dam leaked constantly after construction in '26 -- local people joked, "See you later, if the dam don't break." 400 people died. Muholland, the engineer, did the great mea culpa, and was the basis for Chinatown movie's Hollis Mulwray. (Also: this podcast, unlike many others, does not waste your time with drivel: it's short, and to the point.)

Johnny EssInfo Nuggets from the Past!If you're a history buff, these little info nuggets from the past are a great amuse bouche combo of new and old media, ably hosted by a guy who's been there for both.

Amazing and easy!A delightful slice of the pastGreat pace, energy, and loads of little history none of us remembers. A great connection to an SF — and world — gone by.
-
Midazzleworth 5 minutes of your lifeSo glad to hear King back at it. These podcasts are interesting, fun and informative without taking too much time out of your day. Worth it!

John RawlsGreat pod conceit; perfect curator and hostDelighted to find Kaufman back behind the mic. His own previous pod — Can’t Win For Losing — was an under-promoted and largely undiscovered tour de force. Added bonus with this new glance back at your gramma’s news on this day: expect King to use background music by undiscovered music makers in our day, and to tell you where to find them!
-
oski c4Battle of Los AngelesExcellent summary of a foolish (and ultimately dangerous) historic event. More please.

notsosmartNYKing is Back!Looks like it’s going to be daily bite-sized bits of esoteric historical knowledge. First episode was great, already learned something new.
