Free speech, PR, Social Media stardom and all that jazz.
It was quite interesting to listen to the episode devoted to Valentina Lisitsa’s unsavory fiasco. There’s no doubt in 2022 (when a ruthless autocrat is committing barbaric genocide) that the virtuosa was in the wrong side of History in 2016. The podcast’s hostess opportunely pointed out that before becoming a household name, Ms. Lisitsa first gained notoriety online. A self-made product of social media, of what Mario Vargas Llosa accurately labeled as the civilization of spectacle, she must be instinctively media savvy to thrive. Which is not to say that one means to undermine her unquestionable musical talent.
