    Racist woman
The co-host is an extremely racist Korean woman. She seems to hate anyone that’s not Korean like her. The male host may be on some type of spectrum. Great podcast if you like racist Koreans.

    Among the best
This is one of the most thought-provoking bunch of conversations ever assembled. Two liberals—one an Asian woman committed to doggedly pursuing complete inclusivity and representation in the arts, the other a white man teetering skeptically between his own recognition that his co-host's representation concerns need attention and action and his innate suspicion of the human tendency to abuse other humans—respectfully engage one another on the current state of race and gender in American screenwriting. The podcast grew out of the controversial casting of Dr. Wong in the "Pickle Rick" episode of Rick and Morty, for which the podcasters won a well deserved Emmy.

    Not what I ever expected
What racist focused ramblings...”we didn’t hire an Asian voice over actor” “growing up not seeing people like yourself on tv is traumatic” WTH? I grew up watching people an nobody was Chilean...grew up not being racist.

    I guess it’s over
I think Dan Harmon stopped making this podcast cause he was getting butthurt by you guys. It was a good show that could’ve kept going but everyone was getting triggered (listeners and hosts). Dan Harmon tried, I give him that. Not sure if he learned anything but he tried-ish. It’s a good podcast, two people talking about race and being a writer.

    Would rather Jessica Gao host
And maybe have Dan Harmon as a regular guest-co-host?

    Binged this podcast
I binged this podcast over the last month, and I am so happy I did. Great rapport between Jessica and Dan, and I can’t wait to see what the next seasons topics will be on.

A refreshing white male take on race
In a podcast about race and gender in writing, it’s so refreshing to hear the white male perspective dominate for once (77% of the time according to arementalkingtoomuch.com/)! I must admit that I only got halfway through episode 2 before I was overwhelmed with gratitude towards Dan as he was telling us about how cool he was for hiring female writers and not saying anything about it. I had to go lie down and rest my gentile feminine nerves, but I learned so much in that short time! What we women really need is more advice about how to be funnier in responding to men on the internet threatening to rape us! Thanks Dan!

    Jessica Gao is an ignoramus
This show about race inequality is steeped in biased opinions disguised as rhetoric. Jessica thinks that being an Asian woman qualifies her to speak on behalf of all minorities. It doesn’t. She also thinks she has the authority to tell white men when they’re allowed to insert their opinions. What gives her the authority to do so? She clearly has a bone to pick with white men, and I’m not saying she’s not allowed to do so. I do think it’s harmful to pass your own biased opinion as fact. I could go on pointing out holes in her logic, but I’ve got other things to do. As for Dan, I’m disappointed that an otherwise intelligent and outspoken person would sit back and let such nonsense go largely uncontested. His white guilt is almost palpable. Tune in to Harmontown instead if you want honest and intelligent commentary.

    I love this show.
An honest conversation about some of the most difficult issues facing the entertainment world, and the rest of the world for that matter.

I think this is a good listen for anyone.

    Whiting Wongs?
I thought the title was a punny on righting wrongs, but after listening to Dan stammer his mansplaining for about an hour, I realize they do actually mean to say they are Whit-ing Wongs. Great premise. Jessica might do better having her own separate show since itʻs clear Dan isnʻt ready to play equitably with others.

    Like like like like
Both hosts have got stop saying like all the time. That’s something that’s never bothers me but these guys use it like five times in a sentence. It drives me crazy.

    White man/ Colored Name
Good Show. How do I answer the question in the end of episode 2 “ who watches this show?” I really don’t know where to answer that and REALLY don’t want to open a twitter account in a vain attempt to reach out to the co-host. But to answer the question; I a 26 Year old White/Hispanic Male , raised conservative, hates Trumps, loves Free market Capitalism, hates the oppression of minorities. I who’s name is spelled Jorge, but have gone by “George” his whole life as dictated by his immigrant single mother and sisters. I am the kind of guys who listens to this show during work in front of a computer in Corvallis , OR. Again love the show and admire both host as creative writers.

Jessica Gao is brilliant, engaging, and fun...
Jessica Gao is brilliant, engaging, and fun... I wish Dan Harmon would spend more time supporting Jessica and the guests by asking thoughtful questions and creating more space for them to share their thoughts and experiences. Dan’s heart is probably in the right place but dang, he has an awful lot of opinions about cultures and experiences that are not his own. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    I like.
    Is good.
  • Oh so efficient
Love the show, but not the dansplaining
I love this podcast! As someone looking to break into the industry, this show gives me great insight. The guests are always awesome, too! That said, I would love to hear from Jessica WAY MORE! Dan gets to fumble his way through mansplaining and whitesplaining WAY too often and it makes it hard to keep listening. He talks so much and it overpowers the other host and guests, which feels representative of the problem that created the need for this show. Please, let us hear from Jessica and guests more. Amplify the voices we don't often get to hear.

Jessica is a breath of fresh air.
This show is informative and very helpful for all storytellers, no matter what your medium is. Jessica does a wonderful job of explaining “why” on so many questions about racism and gender issues. She does a fantastic job explaining the whole “it’s not your story to tell” concept. Dan holds up his end with the story circle info, and putting out the “default white” POV. Love this podcast

If you want to write, you need to listen to this
A podcast like this is a rare gem in the sea of gray rock that is the internet. Or like a rare flower that blooms only when a certain set of extraordinary conditions is met. Err... hyperbole aside, if you're interested in storycraft and its intimate connections with the rest of the world, you need to listen to these podcasts. Taken together, they unpack what it means to be a contemporary writer.

    Good Fun! (And Smart)
Being very much like Dan (straight, white, cis, male, middle class, not quite that smart), I have found myself trying to learn many of these same things and, occasionally, putting my foot in my mouth and apologizing to someone for 10 minutes. Now, with this show, I no longer have to go around collecting information from friends and acquaintances like some sort of race/sex/gender scavenger hunt, nor do I have to scour Tumblr -thank goodness- for lengthy write-ups on these subjects. I can now just sit back, listen to Jessica, Dan, and friends work these things out and explain them in fun and relatable ways, and be thoroughly entertained while learning more than I ever have about these subjects. Don’t get me wrong, there are definitely parts that will frustrate those who are like me in terms of privilege, i think mostly because of the fact that being ignorant for so long is a hard thing to admit/accept, but Jessica has (probably 90% of the time) turned me around by the end of the episode and there haven’t been any episodes I wasn’t thinking about hours after listening. The only thing that I’ll never change my mind on is the the movie The Great Wall. Even though Damon’s performance is expectedly wooden and his casting is upsetting, if you give Zhang Yimou 150 million dollars it’s going to be a unique, visually incredible film, because Zhang Yimou is the best.

    Honest Conversations
This podcast is truly a gem. Two extremely intelligent hosts shed light on many subjects society struggles to talk about. Race, discrimination, equality.. there are injustices in society that many deal with on a daily bases that many people are not aware of. Dan Harmon and Jessica Gao are very entertaining hosts whose side tracked conversation are often pure hilarity but more often I am fascinated in how they unapologetically navigate what I consider to be difficult subject matter. The most value in these conversations(IMO) is that the hosts do not claim to have all the answers, in fact they (mostly Dan) at times stumble through how to have the conversation without being insensitive, which is important in order to move the conversation forward. All along the way the hosts and the listeners are learning and hopefully becoming more empathetic people, motivated to take action to make the world we live in a more inclusive place. (Review written from the perspective of a middle class white sis gender millennial male in the Midwest)

    Fans of Harmon should listen
This show is exactly what fans will think it will be. Thoughtful, funny, honest. Ms. Gao is a perfect foil to Harmon’s perfect ramblings, making him sharpen his points all the more.

    SO INSPIRING
I'm an aspiring screenwriter and I'm also an Asian American woman. It's hard to stay motivated as someone who's trying to build a writing career from the ground up, but this podcast, and especially Jessica in particular, inspires me so much! Jessica's candid way of talking about the industry is not only good at fueling my motivation but also very useful information about just working as a tv writer. I love this podcast so much and I especially love the episode with Dante Basco! Keep the anger up :)

    Refreshing and hilarious
I've loved the podcast from the first episode. The hosts are insightful and smart, and boy are they funny. I really enjoy the discussion about race and diversity in Hollywood. Cant wait for more.

Dan kinda ruins this for me
Caveat: I only listened to 2/3 of the Thanksgiving episode but it was hard to get through 30 seconds of it without Dan making some kind of ‘knowing’ racist joke perpetuating East Asian stereotypes (e.g., you all look the same; Chinese food is ‘hot, stringy, and alienating’), or just derailing the conversation by talking too much about himself. And it’s ironic that the host of a show about race and writing finds Paris to be too outside of his comfort zone and marvels at white people who visit Thailand.

    Good for white people
Really funny, good listening. Interesting and thought provoking topics. Hopefully this reaches the audience who really needs it, people that may think they're not racist or are unintentionally doing/thinking/saying racists things. Sometimes, even people with the best of intentions mess up and this podcast teaches well without being confrontational about it.

    Will Dan ever shut up
And let Jessica speak???? His Mansplaining over the top! Jessica , address the imbalance of sheer verbiage in the room. Premise is a good one for pod,

Ain't Fallin' for that Woody Allen Schtick
Dude. You're a white man of priveledge. All that hand-wringing and stuttering is a ruse. You don't want to admit to what you do, even though it hurts people, because you want to continue to do it; and you know that acting contrite will make it seem as though you are an unwilling participant. Gross. BTW I'm a white woman with an Asian last name. I just can't believe that you are unwilling to imagine a world where a white woman would marry an Asian man. That's how deep your racism is.

    Honest and insightful
Dan’s honesty about how a lot of white people feel but are afraid of expressing and Jessica’s open mindedness as a person of color to listen and gracefully correct/further explain while being sympathetic (and vice versa, of course) is really refreshing. They realize that these issues don’t necessarily have black and white answers and everything needs to and can be discussed further in ways that aren’t fueled by reactionary words or phrases.

    Dan and Jessica
These two have great chemistry. Their focus on race is an interesting and hopefully uplifting source of entertainment within the focus of the entertainment industry and life in general.

    Perfect balance
Good convo, harmontown I couldn’t get into and live studio audiences are wack af but I love this and ran out of grandmas virginity. Jessica’s dope.

    Great concept, middling execution
Representation in media is an interesting and complex topic with tremendous importance and I am encouraged to see that American society is slowly (if grudgingly) confronting its sins. I love the concept of this podcast - it's vital that privileged white men (such as myself) acknowledge and explore our own biases and behaviors with regards to racial equality. That said, the premise of this podcast is undercut by the fact that Dan Harmon fills up like 80% of it with breathless chatter and constantly interrupts and talks over Jessica Gao. Don't get me wrong, I like Dan Harmon and his shows, but it's frustrating that a podcast about problems with white male dominance in media conversations... is dominated by a white guy. Jessica's perspective is ostensibly the topic of interest here, given the conceit of the show, and the moments where Dan and Jessica have frank and balanced exchanges are where the podcast really shines. However, so much of the air time is occupied with Dan's machine-gun patter that it can become a frustrating listen. Certainly, everyone has different preferences in speech cadence and elocution (and that's totally fine!) but I get annoyed when Dan interrupts Jessica and cuts her off constantly. The result is a podcast with noble intentions, but whose execution feels more like Harmon kibbitzing on mic about his racial insecurity with Jessica occasionally wresting control of the conversational floor. TL;DR: Dan - the best way to address the issues that spawned this podcast is for you to stop talking and listen to women of color. We've heard your perspective before. Let's hear what Jessica has to say.

    Hey Jessica and Dan
Love it... period. Two brilliant human beings. If they ever go on tour, hopefully they’ll come to Detroit.....cough cough*

Classic Dan. Jessica is great and funny.

    Authentic and fun
It's fun and lighthearted, but they get into some real deep stuff. It's flawed. Their arguments aren't perfect, and they say offensive things (mostly Dan). But that's what makes it great. I've actually learned a lot of interesting debate tactics from this podcast.

I can relate, or do I just think I do?
I am a 49 suburban white-guy living in NYC now, and my Malaysian immigrant girlfriend is 29. Your podcast has taught me to not approach random Asians and immediately talk about my girlfriend for the sake of tribal cred. (Although that’s how I started this review, isn’t it?) Well, anyway, thanks Whiting Wongs! Oh, my gf’s last name is Wong, so isn’t that funny? ... oh dammit there I go again. I told her your analogies (the 6’ 5” guy feeling entitled because he can reach the the coffee, and how white people expect to always have a seat at every table) - she agreed and had some stories for me about freedoms here compared to Malaysia. Keep it up, man-spraining and all. Steve (from Geek Life Crisis Podcast)

I Love listening to Dan Harmon talk...
I'm on the first podcast and I already feel like this is an essential part of my life, how could I live without this... I don't know Jessica Gao apart from her work on Rick and Morty but I already love her voice and her personality and the way she thinks... Dan and Jessica have great chemistry already, I feel like I'm hanging out with them after getting off work at the Rick and Morty offices. I hope Justin Roiland comes on the show "often" because him and Dan on GVP was pure gold. Along with Chapo Trap House and Tarfu Report, this is already my favorite thing. Thank you so much Jessica and Dan, this is my Rick and Morty Canon, this is brilliant commentary on Race and Writing and I just feel really good listening to you two, it's like medicinal earijuana. Whiting Wongs is what you've been waiting for...
