    Season 2
The story would have been very interesting, but it needed to be told in order instead of “you’ll hear that later on”. It may also be that I like a more neutral journalistic approach to stories like this and the reports sounded like they were having a conversation with friends. Also the music is distracting and unnecessary.

    Decent listen
I’m listening to the first season after hearing about it from The Opportunist podcast. Very interesting topic with great research. I just don’t like the music. It’s distracting in the background and goes on far too long in between segments. I find myself fast forwarding to get through it. If I wanted music, I would listen to a soundtrack. Otherwise, keep up the great work!

    Great Storytelling
Simply the best storytelling on podcast today! Love the stories you select, just wish for more content. Also like the 8-10 episode season versus 1-3 and selecting different topics.

    Well executed podcast
I really enjoy this podcast—it’s a good mix of detailed presentation, interviews, and analysis. Further, the podcast is very respectful of victims and their families to a degree that far exceeds many current true crime shows.

    Do Yourself a Favor
This podcast is everything you want — engaging stories, detailed storytelling, and a great voice. This is a must-follow podcast; you should put it on your list.

Well done crime podcast connected to Appalachia
The organization of the episodes and the storytelling is very good.

    Amazing
    Nice description! 👍

    Very interesting & well done!
The story is horrific, but the podcast is very well done. Respectful to the girls and their families. I had a hard time turning it off and couldn’t wait to get back to it.

    Just binged season 2
Well done, such an interesting story. I listened to the whole things within 24 hours.

A conclusion in search of a foundation
Season 4: you and your “witnesses” keep telling us you won’t speculate without evidence, but do it in every other sentence. Sounds like you have an sensationalist agenda and an axe to grind against law enforcement. How about some balance, ie, both sides?

    Great podcast!
I love this podcast. Every season gets better and better. Really enjoyed season 4!

    Mountaineers are always free!
I am amazed at your thorough coverage of each case. I have binged seasons 1-3 separately but, wow! 🤩🤯 I I can’t wait to complete season for and send some suggestions of southern WV mystery that is close to home!

    My go to
I can not say enough how much I enjoy this podcast. I listen to it several times and find something new every time. I suggest it to everyone looking for true crime in our Morgantown (and surrounding) areas. It will forever be my go to podcast.

    Hooked on Appalachia Mysteria
I’m late to the podcast, as I only just found it last a few days ago and already binged season 1. I’ve listened to a lot of true crime, but let me tell you… Appalachian Mysteria is remarkable. Id never heard about Mared and Karen’s So we’ll research, such likable well spoken hosts, and such a captivity and horrifying mystery. I’m fascinated by rural Appalachian, thanks to my Appalachian roots in WV and SW PA. I’m so excited for the season to come. Let the binging begin!

    AMAZING
I can’t recommend this podcast enough, probably one of the, if not THE BEST out there. Extremely researched and the storytelling is beyond epic! I got hooked on season 2 die to living in the area it happened and then season 3, even better as growing up in Williamsburg VA during the Parkway murders, very on point with everything I’ve read through out the years. Amazing job by both!

    Fantastic
This is an incredibly well researched podcast. Detailed and thorough, but the storytelling is top notch. I can’t recommend this podcast enough. Season one is especially captivating.

    Excellent True Crime Journalism
All seasons are thorough, unbiased, and captivating!

    High Praise - well done
Unbiased, fact based and great research. There isn’t an angle or predetermined outcome in their writing. This is what real journalism should look like. Hooked into the story from episode 1.

    Best overall podcast
I cannot praise this podcast enough. Story choices are excellent. 1. Compassion for victims 2. Very good structure and continuity of episodes 3. Season one used local musicians and composers (unsure about following seasons as I do not recall mention of it and a Morgantown studio burned) 4. High journalistic standards. SDX (society of professional journalists) assisted getting documents 5. Little to no repetition 6. Each episode keeps the story moving forward 7. Narrators do not show off, are appropriately serious It has been fascinating to learn more about this part of the country through these podcasts.

    The most artistic podcast ever
I’ve been an avid listener of true crime podcasts for 8 years. I’ve heard them all but this Appalachian Mysteria, season 2 has stood out as the most well-composed of them all. The story is fascinating and promotes lively debate with a foggy conclusion. But the most impressive part is the choice of descriptive and even poetic language in reference to the nature paired with the subtle yet powerful eerie music. The hosts’ intentional word choice, dictation and wary delivery just adds to the brilliant capture of misty Appalachia. So many twists and turns you can listen over and over again and catch something new every time. Masterful!

Turned in to a Jerry Springer ep
This had been my fave podcast, but S4 has started off horribly. There is no mystery. Just screwed up family, addicts and bad judgement.

    Must listen!
    Great podcast!!

    Binged all seasons
The Content and research is very thorough and I would listen to any case they publish . My only criticism is the music interludes and transitions they are so distracting and I hate them. It really distracts from their content .

    Could be better
The podcast team is good and the stories have potential, but the infatuation of playing bad music throughout the podcast almost makes it unlistenable. The music issue along with the terrible editing of Season 1 detracts from the stories.

    Season 1 - Must listen
Season 1 was really great although the sidetrack into the paranormal in the second “bonus” episode briefly ruined what had been a fantastic series up to that point. Fortunately it doesn’t really detract from the overall excellence of the show. A must if you’re a Boomer/Gen-X from WV or SW PA. A very realistic portrait of that time & place. Uh, so did you ever get those photos of the necklaces from Florida?

    Good podcast
I like the podcast but find the music so annoying

    Outstanding Work. Great Bumper Music
I missed this podcast in 2017, but a lot of us weren’t regulars w/ the Podcast Apps until maybe 2018? It is similar to me having missed the Black Dahlia Murders Podcast, and my reading “Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon” — in the sense that I now have a NEW understanding of the amazing amount of Crime during those times when we never locked our doors. I knew nothing about this horrendous case, despite being a lifelong news junkie. I recognized the towns but I had never heard of the Dominion Post. Photojournalist Ron Rittenhouse sounds familiar. In the 70s, we read the Herald Dispatch and the Big Four papers from NY DC LA. At Ep. 7, ‘Cradle Will Rock’ my mouth dropped to the floor. My landlady owned a bookstore in Morgantown and I lived above it.

    Gallows Humor
I didn’t think the victims were as respected as they should be. The puns and jokes are in bad taste. I hope the other seasons will be 100% compassionate to the victims. It would have been humanizing to know more about Morad and Karen and what they had hoped and planned. Maybe that wasn’t possible since this is such a cold case, so hoping for more sensitivity in other seasons.
  • DarciRose
    Great Research
Loved all three seasons…. Thank you for an interesting, thoughtful and well researched podcast. I loved in Season 2 that you won your court case to get the 911 call released!! Nice job! I highly recommend!!!!

    Great Podcast!
This podcast had me hooked from the very first season (which is my favorite). Great information and great storytelling!
  • Waterhole72
    Amazingly good investigative journalism
I love this podcast and I hope you keep putting pods out. Your voices are wonderful too. I really like the original story and the rugged fella from the university that wrote the book on WVU coeds!

Please listen : Admissible - sheds of evidence
On the recent two part series on fraud committed by forensics technicians and labs- So, seems we need an overhaul of all of our forensic labs as well as our police departments? This is incredibly troubling and is practically an identical story to the one covered in the pod Admissible : Shreds of Evidence. How many more forensic technicians have completely bungled OR invented evidence in this country?! How many innocent people have gone to death row because of these bad actors and the labs that have covered for these incompetent or malicious technicians?!
  • KYrangdl
    Awesome Narration
I live in Appalachia and had never heard of this case til I stumbled upon this podcast. The narration is fantastic, they give detailed background info, and have interesting interviews with bystanders. Very sad and intriguing story that is told perfectly.
  • ReidReidReid
    Filler
Sick of fast forwarding through minutes and minutes of music filler.
  • ilovemyjobpj
    Bizarre
I moved to Morgantown a year ago. Never heard this bizarre history of WVU coed murders, even though I had lived in WV two-thirds of my life.
  • Stwice9
    My favorite podcast
I’ve listened to each season multiple times.. The Co-Ed book is fantastic too.. Every thing this team puts together is worth a listen.

Great podcast. Real, interesting and holds your attention.
If you love true crime, if you love Appalachia, or if you love both, this podcast is for you. It’s well done, complete, respectful and thorough. I hope they continue to produce new material!

    Just so we’ll done
I really enjoy the authenticity and research driven nature of your podcast. I’m so glad you brought back “Cradle will Rock” episode. Harry is smiling.
  • TildaJean
    Exceptional
Well researched, well written. Good choice and application of music, a quality podcast.

    Excellent Podcast
I love that the hosts don’t engage in banter back and forth. They get right to the story and are serious about their podcast and the crimes they cover on it. This podcast holds my attention. Another reviewer mentioned that one of the hosts sounds like a computer. I disagree. Both hosts are easy to listen to!
  • BxStatman
Season 1 - Held my attention from beginning to end!
    Great presentation!
  • the trail went cold fan
    Lots and lots of music
The sound track is nice music but it feels like it takes up 40% of each episode.
  • temacotn
    Best true crime podcast
I love listening to your podcast. Interesting cases, awesome research and bringing to the forefront cases not spoken enough to the public. I appreciate that. Looking forward to season 3. Good work ❤️. Nancy from Idaho.

    Over rated
Don’t understand why it has such good reviews for a solved case. Also it’s boring and he sounds like a computer

    Sarah Cherry
Hi there, I’m from Maine and recently read Trailed, which inadvertently led me to this podcast. I’m wondering if you’ve heard of the connection between Mark and a young girl from Maine, Sarah Cherry. It’s now thought that while Mark was stationed in ME he murdered this young girl while she was babysitting 😞😞😞. I’d love an updated episode that brings light to this tragic twist… thx!
  • 1flychicken
    After listening to every episode…
You did a good job overall. I enjoyed each season. BUT I sought out this opportunity to review because I need to tell you how insufferable that Geoff guy is, especially in the way he talks to Sarah. It’s clear that he doesn’t want to listen to anyone’s opinion but his own. And if he didn’t come up with it, he doesn’t want to hear it. Ugh. He isn’t even utilizing logic but tries to talk like he is. This kind of person drives me bananas. The music was becoming a bit ridiculous too. Like, it felt forced in moments but also went on way too long. I mean, we also have to sit through ads, so a musical interlude of 3 minutes is just too much. Keep doing what you do!

    Presentation AND the music
The unfolding of the cases is superb (the creative pace and narrator’s voice), BUT what is equally as good (do I dare say better?) is the music. It is so good that I actually replay episodes just to hear, what I think, are brilliant compositions on a podcast (I have listened to hundreds and no others come close). Can I assume that this group is more than podcast composers and they play live somewhere, or have recordings?
  • Cbeaudzik
    Sensitive
    Sensitively represented… Couldn’t stop listening.

    Well done
    Considered and well researched.

    Enjoyable and engrossing
This shows has captured my interest . I enjoys the hosts and the material they have chosen to explore. It is well put together and easy to follow. That being said, whereas I like the music that they use, the musical interludes are way too long. It interrupts the story and absolutely does nothing to enhance the telling of it.
