Presidential Fight Club

22

Historians have ranked U.S. presidents on leadership, economic management, and pursuing justice, but they have never asked themselves which one could beat up all the others. This show will change that. Hosted by two history professors—James Early and Scott Rank—this is an NCAA-style tournament in which all presidents fight each other one-on-one until there is one champion. You'll see Barack Obama fight William Howard Taft (who literally weights twice as much), Abraham Lincoln try to knock the wooden teeth out of George Washington, and several other rumbles among the commander-in-chiefs.

James and Scott narrate each of these 44 fights by comparing the physical abilities of each president, military experience, and special abilities that would help them win. Did they have combat training? Were they generals? Were they ex-wrestlers? The presidents are also ranked how well they would do in hand-to-hand combat at about the age of 35 (no, FDR won’t be fighting as a polio-riddled man in a wheelchair).

This was great fun to listen to, and gave some much needed insight to some of the lesser known presidents. If I may ask a question, will you redo this when Biden takes office?

    Best Podcast Idea
This podcast started out as a Facebook group poll competition. The podcast goes through the entire tournament from the facebook group. It is such a great concept incorporating multimedia. Scott and James did a wonderful job incorporating the biographical information and more humorous aspects of this unique concept.

    Fun, informative podcast
This podcast provides a fun way of learning about the 44 individuals who have served as president to date (even if William Henry Harrison was robbed and should have won the PFC championship!).

    A fun journey
While I might have some personal disagreements with the assessment of some of the presidents, I believe Scott and James do a great job at breaking down who would win in a fight. It's hard to argue with the results.

    Fun, informative, and conversational!

  • STanksalvala
    Short, sweet and entertaining
There's a surprising amount of biographical information packed into these 10-ish minute episodes! You really come away with an idea of each president's personality, not just historical impact or achievements. Not so much "what did they do," as "who were they?" and using a very clever premise.
