A team from UCL Earth Sciences is taking part in a projectthat involves drilling into an active volcano in southern Italy. Scientistswill deploy sensors in a 4km-deep borehole and analyse recovered rock asthey try to determine what risk the volcano poses to people living nearbyand whether it could be a source of geothermal energy.
