    The person inside the athlete
Payson scores big-name guests to interview on his podcast, but Payson’s strength is quickly moving beyond accomplishments and into the guest’s personality, history, drives and more.

    Great listening!
I only recently began listening to Payson’s podcast and it has taken over as my primary listening. I have been plowing through all of the past episodes. He is super articulate and engaging. His rapport with racers and others in the industry makes the conversations required listening for me. Keep them coming, Payson!

    Love the adventure Stache.
Payson has a natural talent interviewing his guests. He makes them feel comfortable and always has genuine compliments on there accomplishments. I really enjoy listening to each podcast. Super job and keep it up. Some day I’ll get to meet Payson at a race and I look forward to that day. 👍❤️🇺🇸👏

    Entertaining and informative
Feel like I’m sitting behind the scenes with the pros listening to them decompress from the day. All the drama and non drama. How the sport could be better for everyone not just the pros. Great audio quality!!! Love getting to know the riders and what makes their pedals turn. Thanks for a great podcast!

    Bad opening!
Love the show, but not opening theme. Small critique, which I can fast forward.

Love this show. Equal parts inspiring, informative and comic, a lot like athletics itself.

    A lil bit of history….
I do enjoy your show 5 stars…I cannot, however, resist voicing my concern that neither you or Quinn could confirm whether Lemond won an elite RR rainbow jersey. Umm yes, 2x ‘83 & ‘89. Payson gets a small break with his MTB pedigree, but Quinn’s waxing on about RR Worlds, US pride, etc saddened me (and prob Greg L too) that historical perspectives, i.e., US cyclists’ massive Worlds achievements, do not reach back prior to Armstrong. BTW….. Beth Heiden 🌈 too 1980.

    Love the new direction
Really enjoying the race focus of the pod lately - really fun and interesting and provides more exposure to the top cyclists. I usually enjoy the pod, but when the subject matter drifts away from cycling a bit less so. Keep it up!

    Always a good listen!
Haven’t listened to an episode yet that I haven’t enjoyed. Makes me want to turn Pro at 37 years old. 😂

    Fun guests, great flow
I found cycling at a late age, which also means I found Payson’s podcast late. But the flip side means that there are hours and hours of old podcasts for me to binge. Payson has a natural interview style that I dig. His show just flows. I suspect it’s easier to get your guests talking when you’re also an active and seasoned professional too. Being intelligent and respectful of others opinions and lifestyle choices never hurts either. 5 stars well-deserved.

Outstanding - Breadth and Depth of Topics and People
Payson does an amazing job in getting a diverse group of interesting people. Great topics and entertaining insights. High quality editing makes it flow well. I have been a long time fan of cycling and I have learned a lot about the broader community of the sport: from being exposed to new riders, new thoughts on the sport, and learning new facets of the sport. Subscribe and listen!

    Prep your questions bro
I have listened for several months now. It’s frustrating because he’ll bring on solid guests and I get excited, but then the questions will ramble on about extraneous things in the athletes life. Just finished the interview with Stephane Tiempre. He brings a world class athlete on and rambles on about Trek Factory; and the sound quality was awful. That was my last podcast of his.

    An Adventurous Delight
Having been following Payson and his cycling career for a little while I stumbled on his podcast series. What a true treat to hear from those who live life by what gives them the most joy.

    So much struggle sometimes
I found this podcast about 5 month ago and I enjoyed it at first. Loved listening to it on my way to work. Lately, a few things have really been getting to me. Chief among them is the extent to which Payson talks during the podcast. Maybe It’s just me but I really want to hear from the guests and most of the time the long build ups to the questions are not needed. It just distracts and I find myself saying “get to the point” as I’m riding and listening. Another thing is just ask the question you really want to ask. So often you ask something and then after they answer a little you say “the reason I asked that question is...” or “what I was trying to get was….”. If you want to steer the conversation just be direct about what you want to know. It feels patronizing when you do that to your guests. I was also pretty uncomfortable with Payson’s response to Nicole when she talked a little about going back to work in the coroner’s office. His wholesale refusal to entertain that idea, only because of how it would affect him, came off really badly. I really felt bad for Nicole listening to that.

Please Make This the Justin Williams Podcast
Listening to Payson explain tokenism ("I'll let you guys explain it but I'll give my perspective first") was cringey at best. When he went on to say that women should stop complaining about getting better sponsorship deals for being hot because "that's just the way it is", it was awkwardly clear he doesn't really respect the female athlete ("what's wrong with that, we're human.") He is blissfully unaware that he is the one who needs to change his perspective, not the women who want to be valued for performance over appearance. This is sexist and it's the year 2020, bro. It felt like Chris and Justin skirted around giving Payson a direct response and I sensed that they don't enjoy being tokenized, either. If it's okay for women to be tokenized by their sponsors but under Payson's terms, only with full bandwidth to use their own voice, hopefully he understands that athletes want to be valued for their skill and work ethic, not their hotness and how they appeal to men. He references his female friends who are uncomfortable knowing that they got better sponsorship deals because of their slightly-above-average looks and describes their dilemma as "imposter syndrome", which would be laughable if it weren't something most female athletes are subjected to. Would love an episode where Justin explains privilege to Payson :) Also, if Justin is the co-host, why is the branding all about Payson?

Feels like hanging out with friends! Very cool friends.
A perfect balance of professionalism and fun brings out the most from Payson’s incredible guests. He does a great job asking the right questions at the right time to steer a playful, raw and authentic narrative. Thank you for providing quality content with all the right vibes!

    Coming on strong!
It’s been fun to add this pod cast to my rotation. Quarantine Companion with Justin Williams has been a very thoughtful addition and podcast 67 with Christopher Blevins was very thought provoking.

Please no more eating on the podcast!! My poor ears. Otherwise it’s one of my favorites.

    Episode 67
If you only listen to one episode listen to ep. 67 with Chris Blevins. Great discussion and insightful. Great job guys!

    Really like the podcast, but...
Really enjoy this podcast. Great mix of cycling details/dorkiness and real life stuff. Payson is a great character and very impressive and organized host. You can tell he works very hard at this. Justin Williams has been a fun add, but definitely doesn’t have the hosting skills of Payson. It is enjoyable to actually get to listen to the guests of this podcast and their perspective and not just Justin interrupting everyone to tell some random story or answer the questions on behalf of the guests. Keep up the good work!

    History of MTB
I think what you’re doing is important, I appreciate how you’re bridging generations through your interviews with the pioneers of our sport and enjoy learning right along side you. Thank you.

    The best
Loving the podcast week to week from over here in VA. Had me hooked from the Reggie Miller interview. Love the variety of guests and the depth of each episode. Gotta say, both Justin Williams episodes were awesome! That dude is hilarious and makes you want to go out and compete. Keep it up Payson, look forward to it every week.

    Keep it coming.
Loving the down to earth interviews you are getting. Part 2 with Justin Williams didn’t disappoint. Such a great personality in the sport. Much respect for your comments on Lance. People have irrational hatred for him and they never had any skin in the game. The things he is doing now are fantastic for the sport. And a huge shout out to Lily for her editing. Fantastic job.
  • Protijy
Great insight and peaking back the layers
Interviews with people at the top of their sport usually feel guarded and sometimes even shallow. This show has a fly on the wall feeling like there isn’t even a mic in the room. This has made me look forward to recovery rides even more so I can listen and spin the miles away with the show in my ears
  • Do It For Yourself
Came for Johnny Collinson, stayed for everyone else!
Great podcast, love how Payson can sit down and talk with athletes from carrying backgrounds.

    My New Favorite Podcast!!!!!
I stumbled upon this podcast after finding Payson on the MTB Instagram community, and I can’t stop listening. This is a great podcast that’s super easy and entertaining to listen too. The guests are awesome and intriguing, and as a cyclist it’s super relatable. Can’t wait to keep listening, and keep up the great work!!

Anxiously Awaiting Each Tuesday for the Next Treasure
As a MTB’er in central Texas, I’ve been following Payson for a couple years and even got to see/meet him at a local XC Marathon in 2017, I was hooked on the PC from the get go. But what gets me so giddy is the variety and depth of his guest list and the candid conversations that arise. It’s often very little about mountain biking, but that’s also the beauty of it. While I’m an avid MTB’er, it’s still only a part of my life, and cycling is only a part of this podcast. Keep up the awesome work Payson and sharing these great conversations with us!!

Amazing Stories On And Off The Bike
Each episode gets better. I love the intro and the circle of friends brings amazing stories with every interview. A few of the Podcasts are just jam sessions amongst friends. Love hearing the inside scoop to Payson’s life.

    Incredible Podcast! Horrifying Intro
First, I love this podcast 100%. The guests are great and I love the diversity of the individuals on the show. 5 stars, keep up the great work. However, my only disappointment with the show is the intro music. It burns my ears. I have to skip it every time and it really doesn’t help to set the mood like some other intros do. See: The Stokecast for intro music that isn’t nails on a chalkboard. Again, it’s horrible, I hate it omg
  • Durango_Jake
    I love this pod!
I’m a local Durango mountain biker and stared listening to Payson recently. Now I’m addicted. This is a great pod - awesome guests, in-depth questions and the type of people I like to listen to. Whether on a ride or in the car, this pod is a great listen

The podcast drew me in based on Payson’s biking accomplishments. The guests and conversational interview style kept me listening.
