Should win an award for best podcast
This show brings me joy. Today’s “interlude” episode on cookouts totally made my day. The hosts are so full of life and so knowledgeable and that laugh - it’s infectious. I don’t really know southern culture - hip hop or otherwise. So this is a brilliant way to learn. So great!

    Loving This Podcast!
Growing up listening to mostly Country and Classic Rock means I missed out on so much that was happening all around me. I’m 36 and from GA, so revisiting so many things I was only vaguely aware of and seeing how they shaped so much of the culture I was in has been fun. I’m discovering a whole new world, and it is great to have 2 guides who love and enjoy and feel these songs so much.

    Women in the Club!
Heard ‘Pitching the Woo’, excellent! It was so cool to hear the perspective of Chef Shug and interesting to consider that so much of the inspiration in the culture came from the strip club. You should do a series of episodes where you feature more women’s voices from the club!! One of her regrets was that during that time in her life, tip drill and post-tip drill, she didn’t have a voice. Give those women a voice! It was great to hear hers.

I keep putting my friends on! This is captivating content that genuinely represents and educates on Southern HipHop and Rap culture (that was birthed by ATL artists). You gotta just listen. Regina and Christina both have the perfect voices for this podcast and the music is so appropriate. Only thing that could make this better is an accompanied BOTM playlist 👀🙏🏽

This podcast is so full of knowledge and real southern hiphop. I’ve seen these women work live and let me tell you, they’re phenomenal! The show has amazing production and you can tell everyone involved loves what they do. That really matters when you have genuine energy behind your craft. Their connection to southern hiphop and the audience comes full circle to offer us a big ole plate of hip hop for the southern soul. Thank you @bottompod for reminding us all the south STILL got something to say!

    Informational and Entertaining
This is such a great podcast and I’m thrilled that it has gotten a second season. As a native ATLien I have learned a lot about the Hip Hop history of my city. The interaction between the hosts makes me laugh so hard on the few topics they don’t see eye to eye on. The production quality is flawless and I love the shout-out to Lois “OG” Reitzes!

Required listening as a fan of hip hop
So, I’ve been a fan of this podcast since episode 1. I’ve recommended it to friends, strangers and family members. I thought I knew hip hop (and I do) but these ladies, particularly Dr. Bradley, are blowing me away! The amount of research they put into each topic and the entirely new angles from which they approach the subjects make even the most explored idea feel new. Personally, after listening to Study Hall, I feel like I now need to go back to the beginning and really take this podcast in as a student and not just a passive listener. If you love knowledge, learning opportunities, and/or the study of hip hop, this episode will stir something in your soul. Highly recommended. Thank you 🙏🏾

    Ok now ladies!
I LOVE this podcast!! Two incredibly intelligent women of color talking about hip hop culture. I swear they were born to do this. The knowledge that they share is so widespread, you’re not just learning about music, you’re definitely learning real culture too.

    Culture rich and real
I love the authenticity of the Dr and the journalist. They both have first hand and very different experiences. The take a intellectual and curious look at our shared past: hip hop and all it impacts! From HBCUs to strip clubs and so much more. I can’t wait to hear what they talk about next.

    Country Rap Tunes
Great show, but a few notes: It can’t be possible to discuss the country/southern dynamic without a single mention of Pimp C, the creator of the whole Country Rap Tunes movement/sub genre, (would like to know how y’all think UGK’s “Wood Wheel” video fits into the picture) nor Willie D, who Pimp and others cite as the first rapper to get on a record talkin country at all... Also, Devin the Dude deserves a lot more attention and respect in the discussion on weed and hip hop.. The Geto Boys/J.Prince/Rap-A-Lot (+ Tony Draper/Suave House) deserve more consideration in general, but especially when you speak on how the scene down here was built..

Bottom of the Map is fantastic - a great way to learn more about music I already love from a region that is so often misunderstood. Plus the hosts are smart, down-to-earth, and funny.

Hip Hop as a respected cultural force and phenomenon is evident in the way their discussions are held. Thanks y’all!

The Best Podcast to Come Out of Atlanta
BOTM is the podcast I did not know I was missing. I grew up outside of Atlanta and have always loved the beauty, complexity, and dopeness of southern hip hop. Christina Lee and Dr. Regina Bradley make me feel like I am back in class when they dissect the social and cultural influences of hip hop, but they do so in a funny, relatable and conversational manner. I love everything about this podcast and the soundtrack for each episode is always fire. Thank you for giving me life each week on my commute!
  • Justice4all1982
    Refreshing
Bottom of the Map provides an introspective look at Southern Hip Hop and it’s impact on our culture. The substance of this musical genre is brought to the forefront and discussed authentically. I appreciate how the hosts connect how artists expressed social events and constructs with their own unique musical styles in sharing community stories.

    Amazing Podcast
This Podcast is the perfect blend of intellect and entertainment. It give voice to a genre of music that for the most part has been voiceless. I remember taking my mixtapes to New York in the summer.. MC Shy D, Raheem The Dream etc... and being laughed at because southern hip hop was unappreciated because “if It wasn’t from NewYork... it wasn’t rap”...Thank you for gifting this outstanding podcast to the world!

The South’s Got Something to Say
I don’t take my earbuds out for ANYBODY when I’m listening to BOTM. If you enjoy podcasts that explore the nuance of and add context to things you thought you already knew (think Backstory, 99 Percent Invisible, Allusionist) BOTM will hit on all cylinders for you. Of note: I’ve seen some reviews disparaging Christina Lee, one of the hosts, and honestly, y’all are petty for this. Dr. Regina Bradley and Christina Lee are good hosts together; they interact in a synergistic way that adds depth to the show. While Dr. Bradley is the expert you’re here to learn from, the interplay between the hosts is natural and engaging.

    Intriguing
This podcast has very thoughtful conversations about various themes in hip hop. The hosts also cover a wide range of hip hop artists and their back stories. Wonderfully made!!!

    Get rid of Christina lee
This podcast would be great, if it weren’t for the pseudo-intellectual groping of Christina Lee. The annoying non-white girl, who’s always hanging around, attempting to slide, imperceptibly, into a group, into which she does not belong. I’m not trying to act ugly, but... Girl, we see you, we don’t like you. You can’t sit with us. Go away, chile.
  • JessLyn1985
    Where has this been???
Finally!!! Hip hop from the female perspective. Where has this been all my life??? Great banter between the hosts and awesome content. Looking forward to more
  • Charles Rich
I like hip hop with my hip hop...
Ok, this podcast is a must have for anyone who often dabbles in heated debates over the evolution of hip hop. Don’t get it twisted, this is not your typical barbershop banter with a couple of people who haven’t done their research.... these ladies give you the whole menu!!! I truly enjoy their insight and unique perspective of southern hip hop culture. I have a greater appreciation for their take on things because I believe gender equity lacks tremendously in the round table discussions of hip hop. Their chemistry is organic and I find myself joining in on the conversation with my own take at times. Dr. Bradley’s natural ability to drop in and out of southern slang is effortless and rather cool. Finally, the intellectual ratchets of the world (much like myself) have finally found a home. I’m hoping to see this podcast grow into something special and I’m just glad I jumped on it from the start. Keep it up ladies! Great content. Great listen. Highly recommend.
