Letters of Love in WW2

by HISTORY
102

From North Africa, back to Britain and then through Europe, Letters of Love in WW2 tells a unique story of the Second World War from the perspective of two real people that lived through it.

Three months after they wed, Cyril and Olga Mowforth found themselves separated by the Second World War. Between 1940 and 1946, their love was kept alive on the pages of a thousand letters and postcards, found decades later by their family after they had both passed on. With their family’s poignant and emotional interviews bookending each episode and featuring the voices of Mr Bates vs The Post Office and Downton Abbey’s Amy Nuttall and Afropean author and broadcaster Johny Pitts, Letters of Love in WW2 gives an incredible first-hand insight into what it was like to live through this tumultuous period.

    10 minutes to be hooked
What a delightful surprise to find the beautiful letters read by such charming voices. I can see this couple writing their words to one another from different places in the world. Connected by love, surviving on conviction and a special quality of hardiness that was so unique to this generation of people. The hope of a future that would be free of fascism. What a great gift to be able to partake in this families legacy of words.

A wonderful podcast and thank you
This podcast is wonderful! My father and his three brothers all fought in WWII. I never heard any of them speak of it and I stupidly never asked. They are all dead now and unfortunately my questions fall on deaf ears. This podcast gives me a little peak into their worlds during the war. Thank you

A personal and moving view of WWII
Takes you into the hearts of a loving couple separated by one, reporting about the home and war fronts. Such a lovely homage to the host’s grandparents.

    BRILLIANT !!
I absolutely love this podcast- it’s engaging, romantic, heartfelt and just the perfect thing to listen to on the hammock, fishing by the lake or going on a car ride. My only regret is it’s probably the only of its kind, oh how I wish there were more! Definitely worth downloading.

Beautiful Love Story! My heart is full...
I felt honored to hear this wonderful couple's love story. Hearing the real voices of their children and grandchildren was a beautiful touch. The letters they wrote are precious and as I adore all things historic and all things regarding True Love, I'm very thankful for the family being willing to share something so personal. Once again, the History Channel comes thru with a perfect and lovely story.

Enthralled & Grateful For This WWII Love Story
As a devourer (is that a word?) of history, this well crafted, intimate glimpse into the life of this endearing couple is captivating. The familial insights are well placed and lend a flavor that is only attributable to their personal knowledge. Recommended to others over and over and over...

    So well done
Was recommended to me by the”They Walk Among Us” podcast. So happy to subscribe. The letters are very moving. It gives us a glimpse into the lives of two ordinary people living through extraordinarily times.

    Beautifully Read
I searched podcasts for letters from WWII after having found my grandfather’s (& family) from when he was in the US Navy (‘44-‘46) just out of curiosity, and am so pleased to have found these. Such beautiful love letters, and the readers do such a great job - makes the content all the more compelling. Thanks to the family for sharing these with the rest of us, and for fleshing out the letters and sharing their thoughts about their parents/grandparents in the podcast. How lucky those of us are who have such letters from so long ago. Looking forward to future episodes.
