This collection explores American religions and the ways that they have shaped the political, social, and cultural life of the nation from 1492 to the present. Topics include the role of Catholicism in the Spanish empire, religion in British North America, religion and the American founding, abolitionism and reform, immigration and religion, religion and the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, and the Religious Right.
This audio podcast collection is intended as an additional resource for students as they take the course, and for anyone interested in American religious history. Students may listen to it as they go through the class notes, or listen to it independently. Anyone not taking the course can listen to it without any other course material.
The podcasts are approximately 16-20 minutes long each. Two or more podcasts are uploaded per week on average.
