    Alas, could have been good.
I’ve read almost everything Tolstoy wrote at least once and Cossacks several times over the last several decades. It is a cornucopia of sketches of characters, emotions, tendencies, attitudes, and interactions - simply put - humans. I was looking forward to sitting back while someone else read this captivating work. Unfortunately, it looks like chapters 1-17 are missing. Instead, it seems the last chapters were dropped twice in error. Pity. I listened to chapters 17 and 18 and the reader does a very fine job of interpreting the scenes and moods. Until this technical error gets fixed by production people, all the valuable prior work is wasted. Hopefully, someone sees to it. Addendum Voila. It seems someone got after it. The menu of episodes is still a little messed up, but it is serviceable. You’ll figure it out, and it’s worth it. The important thing is that one can listen to chapters one through forty-two of this marvelous story. There are several readers throughout. All are good. A couple are excellent. Happily for you, you’ll behind with excellent (Well done, MacBeth). Enjoy.
