    Great narrative storytelling
The events of that night have been told many times, in many ways, but I was still on the edge of my seat while listening. It’s easy to look away from something as terrible as 1 October. Thank you for diving in, thoughtfully and with respect to those affected - all the while giving listeners a sliver of hope to hold on to as you guide us through the terror. I was hooked after the first few seconds. Looking forward to the rest of it.

    Utterly Riveting
I am so blown away by how this podcast is able to put the listener smack in the middle of these horrifying events. By using the perspective of a brand new officer, we get a look through fresh eyes of how terrifying and disorienting it is to be present for an active shooter situation- events we are becoming desensitized to. This podcast is so important!

    Expert storytelling
The Oct. 1 shooting was an overwhelming tragedy for this city. Shea Johnson’s decision to tell the story of that night through the lens of a rookie officer and his field training officer allows listeners to understand better the chaos, madness and terror of the event. Combined with suspenseful, dramatic storytelling, this is undoubtedly one of the best pieces of journalism to come out of that awful night.

    Gripping journalism
The RJ staff and reporter/host Shea Johnson did a great job diving deep into these intersecting stories from the largest mass shooting in U.S. history. I couldn’t stop listening. The podcast should remind everyone why strong local journalism is so crucial to every community.

    Compelling
Great podcast by a former journalism colleague of mine. Compelling behind the scenes details of the deadly Las Vegas mass shooting. Interesting story about a police officer who was new to the job and just starting their shift when they first got the call about the massacre. I’m excited to hear more! Keep up the great work.

In a time where these tragedies are happening left and right, hearing these stories helps me fight that numb feeling, reminding me that this shouldn’t be normal. Looking forward to the next episode in this promising pod.

    Vegas Newbie’s insights
As somebody who recently moved to Las Vegas a few months ago, this podcast really opened my eyes. You see similar tragedies around the world, offer thoughts and prayers, make social media posts about it but you never really experience the emotions as somebody who has lost a loved one or lived so close to the incident. I honestly didn’t even remember the date of the shooting and have lived in Vegas for over 6 months! It’s nowhere close to what some of my friends, neighbors, and community members experienced but it’s a step so I can better understand my new home. The recordings and interviews are impeccable and really place you in the heat of the moment, I can’t wait for the next episode!
