I really enjoy this show and appreciate getting relevant news quickly each morning. Today’s interview with McKay was frustrating though. When he described world leaders’ resignation to Trump I was cringing at the arrogance. Foreigners are not supposed to “do” anything about our elections: they are for American citizens to decide. The possible plan to throw Trump a big party to flatter him into paying for the war in Ukraine was nauseating. This is why Democrats are losing voters. Do better. Please.

This show is getting worse by the day

Please get a different host. I have continued to try and give the new host a chance, but I’m really struggling to keep listening. I used to love this podcast because it had a really fun energy, and now I have to turn it off halfway through. I think if there were other hosts in rotation, it would be more tolerable. Jane is an excellent journalist, but I think she would benefit from having cohosts.

I had previously enjoyed this podcast when the hosts were more entertaining and had their own personalities. I cannot stand the new host, Jane. She is boring and often sounds condescending. Please find a new host because I miss having a daily news podcast that I actually enjoyed.

I’ve been listening to this show for a while but found myself getting tired of the hosts trying to laugh at headlines that really weren’t funny. Jane brings the news we should know daily with a more in depth look at one news item each day. It’s now my go-to news podcast.

This podcast is just what I needed. Smart reporting that doesn’t pretend that things are normal or OK, but balanced with a realistic world outlook, a palpable concern for humanity’s future, and the sanity of your listeners. Thank you for your great work.

I’ve been a listener since the beginning, through all configurations of hosts. I do like the current host during the first 2/3 of the episodes but I really struggle with hearing the daily headlines. Their voice sounds like I’m listening to a high school book report. Can someone else in the studio volunteer for that part?

I will preface this by saying I lean left/progressive and love other Crooked Media podcasts like Pod Save America, Lovett or Leave It, Hysteria, and Offline. Jane seems very knowledgeable by comparison to them, and that is one way the podcast seems to have improved over previous recent hosts where she seems to legitimately have a thorough understanding of what she’s talking about. The problem for me is fully in her delivery. The way she speaks throughout the podcast comes off extremely smug and sarcastic, and almost as if every single sentence is supposed to be the punchline of a joke, or like she’s playing a character, to the point that it’s overwhelming and distracting from the actual content being delivered. I just start to crave a single moment without her condescending overtone. Also, she’s one of those people who pronounces the ‘R’ sound with that tongue-rounding effect like it’s being combined with the letter ‘L’ every time. That last part is just a small pet peeve that I could more easily forgive if not for the bigger issue described above. I can see why people like Jane, but unless she changes or is replaced, I’ll have to stick to the PSA guys and the Hysteria girls.

I love Jane Coston (?sp). I liked her previous podcast although I can’t remember the name. She is once again hosting an excellent show - She is such a smart and insightful thinker. I recommend this podcast 100%!

Jane - it must be overwhelming to be the only host of a podcast that has had up to 4 hosts at a time, but please, please take a look at the pod’s history before you decide how to welcome guests to the show. New to “What A Day” guests? Say “Welcome!” Guests that have been on the show at least once before? Say “Welcome back!” Jon Favreau, one of the founders of Crooked Media? It’s safe to say “Welcome back!” C’mon - keep it accurate, please.

So funny, so smart, so clear

The dynamic and banter between daily cohosts was central to this podcast. Loved the POC, queer, and just generally funny and hip hosts. The writing remains good, but no single host can create that dynamic and energy. Bring back the old model!

I’m so sorry, but the single person reading the news, just isn’t what I came to WAD for. I miss the other hosts, the revolving door of people, the banter. Jane seems lovely, but it’s missing what made WAD special.

After being a near-daily listener for years now, I’ve officially unsubscribed. The suspicious firing of beloved hosts was quickly followed with a sharp decline in the overall quality, including interviews with the Nate Silver (seriously?!). What a loss for listeners who appreciated the show’s previous performance.

I’ve started my day with this pod since it first aired. It’s evolved over time and I’ve enjoyed each iteration. You’re doing a great job, Jane!!

Thank you for bringing Jane in as an excellent host. Love her despite her Michigan flaw.

I used to listen everyday, and I brought so many people in to join me in this morning ritual. But, now, we all agree that the quality has fallen significantly. The new host is just not funny and (sorry to say) has a boring voice. Some people (including me) just aren’t meant to be podcasters. My theory is that after the hosts and staff unionized, the Crooked boys had them go and replaced them with a scab who supports the violent, zionist displacement of Palestinians. It stung to hit unfollow because of how much I loved this show, but at some point it’s time to call it quits.

This show has come a long way. Glad you’ve settled on Jane is it.

This is literally a terrible podcast. They don’t do the research and just rely on clips. It’s so bad. They want to encourage women but are ok with the democrats hiring celebrity women to say don’t tell anyone who you voted for. It’s weird, not normal and shameful. Gross just gross podcast

Boring

I have been an avid listener since 2021. I’m also a director of a nursing home and every morning for the past 3 years the residents and I have listened to the show during breakfast hours. I will play the pod over a speaker and all the residents have thoroughly enjoyed it as well as the past hosts. It has come to the point now that the residents have asked not to play it anymore because they simply cannot understand Jane. I don’t know if it’s a lisp or just her fast talking, but the residents just don’t understand what she’s saying. I’m asking to please seek an alternate host. We still want to support and enjoy the pod every morning, but it’s getting harder and harder.

I agree—the old hosts were incredible. The show is a lot less engaging now. I had been a daily listener for at least 5 years and I finally unsubscribed today. I can only speculate as to why the previous hosts were removed, but what a terrible choice. Especially in the lead up to an important election.

What A Day is my favorite way to wake up and work out in the morning! And this means I’m officially accepting that I’m in my thirties and watch news and workout in the mornings…Jane is witty and shares the news in such a digestible manner, even the bad things. See you in the morning, girl! (And love your hair and earring variety!)

….I looked forward to hearing the fun and intelligent assemble cast members and no disrespect to Jane but can we compromise and bring back rotating co-hosts with her as the mainstay or something? This is a COMPLETELY different show since the days of Akilah and Gideon and maybe the was the aim? But the show is now dryer than a Popeyes biscuit!

I’m an avid listener of Crooked Media and have been listening to WAD daily for years. WAD has gone through several host changes which is understandable in this industry with a younger early/mid career casting . Each time they have done a really good job transitioning and filling in with new hosts that kept the vibe/culture but also added their own unique personality. I also think having two hosts added a lot to the dynamic and cadence of the show. I have been really trying to give Jane time to grow on me but I have not been enjoying listening to this podcast in the mornings anymore. Maybe she needs a co-host but she is lacking in keeping the spirit of WAD that I have enjoyed going on. Her style is too prescriptive and rehearsed and her “humor” leans more on cheap empty remarks than of substance many times. Her tone also doesn’t feel authentic…or juvenile. It’s hard to put my finger on it exactly, but it’s just not working for me. Unless some changes are made, I don’t know how much longer I’ll be listening to this one. Unfortunately I’m going to have to start looking for a new daily news podcast.

At least 3 times a show I chuckle and say, I love Jane”. Thanks for your sarcasm and snark.

Jane is fine for a different podcast, but this is NOT What a Day anymore. The unique qualities of the show are gone, the personality has changed entirely- I tried to keep listening, but Jane’s delivery just doesn’t do it for me. I’m sad- who decided to change this??

I really enjoy this as a “listen while getting ready in the morning” pod. It gives me quick updates on the most important goings-on of the day and deep dives that are interesting and generally well researched. Much improved with Jane at the mic!

I’ve been listening to WAD since the start and love it. Jane is great but I miss the rotation of multiple diverse hosts. I also miss the fun from the old hosts - no shade to Jane.

This podcast is the BEST. This is the news we need to hear, want to hear, and/or didn’t know we needed! Singing along to “headlines” is one of our favorite parts of the day!!

Jane is an awesome journalist and cool addition to this show, but one note: please stop *reading* the script and start *talking* on this pod. Especially the “one more thing” segments and news items. There’s a difference and it makes content much more engaging when it isn’t delivered in the “reading from a page” voice.

1 star -update 10/24 Has anyone helped Bob yet? How do we get in touch with Sal? 2 stars - update 9/024 I’ve used this pod as a palette cleanser after The Daily and Global News for 4 years. I don’t need to write much more, because everyone summed it up. Bring back goofy, sweet and reality tv watching hosts who laugh and bring levity to the hellscape of news. And I know this is small but the weird transition noise between the headlines is terrible. First a swoosh then a weird guitar twang. Stop it. 5 stars - Update 12/2/21 When Akilah left the show I was worried about the new cohosts, but it has been a joy. Gideon still holds it down (sorry I didn’t mention you in the first part of the review - you’re hilarious) and the rotating cast is awesome. I love the varied perspectives and am still laughing with them everyday. Y’all rule. 5 stars - original review - If you listen to this for no other reason than Akilah’s laugh, you’ll be happy. If you also like it for news, you’ll be ecstatic. A well thought out and funny news show that helps me after I listen to more serious, heavy news podcasts. Love them!

I have been listening to the show from the start when Akilah was a host. I enjoyed that the show was short, witty, and gave us diverse voices on the daily news. Removing all the diverse voices from the show really ruined the appeal of the show. Beyond that Jane is just not as engaging and entertaining as the past hosts, unless you’re into Michigan football.

I’ve been a long time listener and today was my last time. I loved Akilah and Gideon! I loved Tre-velle, Josie, Juanita, and Priyanka. All of the hosts have been like friends who gave me hope and news every morning. I even looked forward to Monday mornings to get their take on what happened over the weekend. Now it’s just Jane. Don’t get me wrong, she seems brilliant, but she’s very very boring. Her tone and delivery are sort of mealy. When there was someone else cohosting I could handle it because of the light banter. But now it’s all Jane all the time. I don’t mind all the sports references because I’m a big sports fan, but I was raised an Irish fan and hate Michigan. Please bring back the cohosts or at least hire someone to cohost with Jane. She has taken the fun out of What A Day.

I love WAD so much and it’s the best part of my weekdays, especially in navigating an insane news cycle this year. But I’m sorry, Jane is not working. Her energy and delivery is so unlike what listeners used to have and it has sucked the life out of WAD. The fun, exciting dynamic between the previous cycle of hosts was absolutely key to this awesome show. I’m unfortunately not able to listen anymore. Please consider reworking the hosts!!!

for years, WAD has been my morning go-to for headlines from its very start, but no more I find Jane Coaston’s delivery to be flat, and she brings little analysis and less humor and no sense at all of passion or expertise

I listened to WAD for years now but with the loss of such amazing hosts I am going to unsubscribe. Jane is a fine host but without a cast, the fun jingle, and big personalities - the show is bland and I don’t need to include it on my roster. Also JDR will forever be my number 1.

I loved the old WAD - it was fun! I listen to a bazillion news shows - WAD stood out for having personality. The new host and format don’t bring anything interesting or unique to the table to set it apart from all the other daily news pods out there. I chose to unsubscribe.

What A Day is great and informative and I like Jane Coaston but I miss Treyvell, Priyanka, Josie and Juanita. I prefer the format that rotated hosts which included more perspectives, styles of reporting, and tag team banter.
