Selena: A Star Dies in Texas

334

Twenty-five years ago, Selena Quintanilla-Perez was already a legend in the Tejano music world and on the verge of superstardom. But on March 31, 1995, Selena’s close friend Yolanda Saldívar pulled a gun from her purse and fired a single bullet. Selena was pronounced dead a short time later. Selena’s murder left her family, friends and fans around the world stunned, heartbroken and speechless. In the days, months and years that followed, one question would linger: "why?" Why would someone who claimed to be the singer’s best friend, someone so close to her, choose to end her life? What events in the hours and days before the murder led Saldívar to kill Selena? With access to an extraordinary archive of rare and never-before-heard audio, VAULT Studios, the network behind Bardstown and The Officer’s Wife, brings you the story of a superstar, a superfan, and the shocking murder that ended the life of a bright young star.Selena: A Star Dies in Texas is produced in collaboration with Kiii-TV in Corpus Christi, KHOU in Houston, WFAA in Dallas, KENS5 in San Antonio and our network of TV stations across Texas.

    Peace of Mind
I love listening to this podcast it really went into depth but not overly complicating her name and the story line and i appreciate that they took the opportunity to let Yol-… you know how) talk with out making her look innocent because as the facts are stated she ultimately ended up killing Selena you will enjoy listening to this podcast it will bring a peace of mind. 🤍💜

    Recommend
Excellent information podcast. As a die hard Selena fan, I learned a few things. Would recommend to other fans. Host has a pleasant easy to listen to voice, mixed in with clips of others involved in the case.

    Amazing!
They did justice in bringing a new light to Selena’s story. How to impacted and continues to impact so many lives. Her legacy definitely continues to live on and captures so many peoples interest. She was an icon and this podcast shows all of this. Especially how amazing her music was. I listened to this all in one day. I will re-listen to it. It brought back memories.

To much time talking about Selena’s murderer. ANYTHING FOR SELENA is a much better podcast. It focuses on SELENA.

    Such a sad story
😓A falling star Can’t believe Yolandas sister defended her. Yolonda is a loser.

    Tragic
Podcast was good. Although I have followed this story since it happened, I still learned a few new details that I was unaware of. Yolanda is a disgusting individual. I pray she is denied parole in 2025!!

    Good Listen!
Til this day...Selena is forever in our hearts! The only thing that I did not like was Yolanda’s interview on how she was talking about Selena as if she was the one who didn’t murder her!! And I believe there is no secret...Yolanda is just full of it!!!

Selena: A Star Dies in Texas
Yolandas sister is hilarious, so Yolanda was advising Selena about her money? I thought Yolanda had a nursing’s degree not a business in accounting degree. She’s ridiculous just like Yolanda, disgusting. Anyway great podcast.

    No Content: Just Blah
There is a lot to this story. But this podcast presentation is poor. There is no new information or in-depth investigation. The story telling is flat. It sounds professional, but please, do some research and learn how to tell a story!

My Dad was born in Texas so as you can imagine Tejanos are like a race of their own from the Spanglish they speak to the music they listen to Selena was my idol 26 years later I remember where I was when I heard she was killed. This pod cast is great. Viva la Reyna Tejan she is a legend broke barriers and Represented LATINAS he death was a true loss I am positive she would have done a million more record breaking accomplishments her music will live forever & so will she 💋💄 🌹⭐️🤍🎤🎹🌹👑💍👠💋

    Too much of Saldivar
I loved the movie and the story of her life but the whining and crying by Saldivar became too much to listen to. I wanted to hear more about Selena. I’ll try to find that content and keep listening.

    Selena FOREVER!
I was born in 1992 and I definitely looked up to Selena since I was a little girl. My mom made me a replica purple jumpsuit just like hers. My dad would always take me to the flea market and buy me her cassette tapes (before cds) and when cassette tapes were being phased out he got me the CDs. Selena was and will always be an icon for Latina everywhere. All I ever wanted was to sing and dance just like Selena. She is missed and loved dearly. Rest easy Reina. 💜

    Disappointing to say the least
Too much emphasis on Yolanda and Selena’s murder instead of her life.... I thought we were going to hear unheard audio from Selena, Or at least people talking about her life not so much about her death... I understand if only 1 or 2 episodes were about it but nearly all 6 were about Yolanda ... very disappointing.

    MEH
I thought it focused way too much on Saldívar instead of Selena and her story. It felt like the book that none of the Quintanilla family supports. Very one sided (aka Saldívar side) with just little compliments to Selena. I did like the fact that it had real interviews and things like that but it just is too one sided and doesn’t capture the magic and authenticity of Selena.

    Great
Selena A Star Died in Texas: Wow I was born in 94 so I knew the name and not the story and this is a must listen for anyone in the same boat. It’s done by Vault Studios so very scripted but captivating sounding more like an audiobook sometimes. I’m so glad they didn’t try to stretch it out for 13 episodes. There are only 3, 30 minute long episodes so it really feels like just the facts. Tragic story, great podcast. Similar Pods: 88 Days: The Jayme Closs Story, Dirty John, All Crime No Cattle, Hell and Gone, Southern True Crime, Somebody, BLACK HANDS - A family mass murder.

    Tragedy
Yolanda is truly devious and extremely manipulative. This podcast did a great job capturing that.

    Disappointing
I was really excited for this podcast - but it turned into a podcast entirely about Yolanda way too fast. I thought it would be Selena’s story, not the woman that murdered her. I don’t think many Selena fans are interested in hearing from/about her very much.....

    Selena the Legend
I grew up listening to Selena. It breaks my heart that she was so trusting and was then murdered. The one thing about the show that bothers me is the exaggerated Spanish pronunciation of the names.
  • Boudk005
    Thank you for doing this
It’s been way to long. I love Selena I met her in 1994. My first album ever owned was Amor Prohibido. I loved this podcast. This was a special blessing to hear. Thanks a million. Can’t wait for more media. Soon the Netflix show.

    Biggest fan!
Selena has always been my favorite singer and it angers me that she’s not here in this earth because of a stupid person 🤬. I’m still hurt by this tragic, but I love her and miss her even tho I was small I remember dancing her music. So it’s so nice that there’s a podcast about Selena and it’s nice that her legacy still going...

    Interesting
Listened to the first 2 shows, love hearing the real stories behind the horrible crime, I was 9 yrs old when Selena was murdered, and remember all the craziness that surrounded that story, it’s interesting to hear exactly from the people that were there that day and after, hoping for more episodes!
