    Your new favorite podcast
If you haven’t listened yet, do. As an American, this show makes me wish we never left. How I wish Dominic and Tom could be my sovereigns

Pleasure to listen. Learning so much.

    Luther
Some say 5 parts are too much? Would love to expand this conversation to start of Christianity-and other orthodoxy splits centuries before. Also so many factions following 16th century Luther. Bring it.

I would have expected better from you guys. “The great ‘pin up girl’ of female scientific engagement.” C’mon really? You couldn’t think of anything more interesting to say about the first person to write a computer algorithm? Disappointing.

    Lord Byron
Dominic’s periodic outbursts of moral indignation over Byron’s “mad, bad “ behavior are hilarious. I loved every episode. In fact, I love all your episodes regardless of subject. Sheer delight. Keep’em coming.

    Learned and Cheeky
Love the content, the tone, the interaction between the two hosts… cover so much ground in depth without ever being a grind. Since my retirement 3 yrs ago, I listen to about 15-20 history podcasts, but more from these guys than any other (agree w/review that says this podcast and Dan Carlin’s work are most consistently best). As a lifelong history enthusiast (and former college history major), I always thought I’d go back and take classes when I retired, but these podcasts have allowed me to cover so much more ground more efficiently than school classes ever could, and I can sit/walk on my beach without driving anywhere or getting out of my t-shirts and gym shorts! Have sent RIH series on British view of Amer Rev to many friends who also loved it and several now have begun listening ongoing. Can’t wait to hear what comes next!

    Am loving Byron
I live on Byron Street and our poet’s narcissus are in bloom so the timing is perfect. I’ve an avid listener for several years. Keep up the good work!

    Tortured poet
I am so happy that you guys coordinated your Lord Byron series to drop at the same time as Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department.”

    Disco, RIP
Great podcast, always entertaining and I never fail to learn something! You missed the ball on why disco faded though: it had nothing to do with homophobia (until you said it, I didn’t know the connection between disco and sexual orientation, and I’m not convinced there is a connection). It died away because it was seen as awful music and couldn’t compete with the 80s styles that followed.

I listen to an embarrassing amount of Podcasts
This is one of the absolute best! Amazing podcast. These guys and Dan Carlin are the most engrossing story tellers out there. Love it, keep up the good work and the impressive pace!

    Racism or ignorance?
I always find it curious when English speakers can pronounce French words with the fluidity of a native speaker, but when it comes to Spanish, they can’t be bothered. Is it just ignorance of the language, or is it some form of racism? I’ll leave it to everybody else to decide. But even if it’s neither, It still took me forever to figure out they were talking about Don Juan. I would expect more from a podcast dedicated to history.

Honestly. This is how I fall asleep. Not that I’m not interested. PNW American who is very soothed by an English accent plus I love history. Eventually I listen to the whole thing. ❤️❤️❤️

    Luther, Kennedy and Titanic
Truly the best podcast series I’ve ever listened too. I joined “The Rest is History” club after Titanic. You guys do a fantastic job of explaining everything and making a really exciting and informative adventure out of history. I wish I would have had teachers like you for history in school when I was growing up. Los Angeles, California

Disco: Sex and Race in the 70’s
I really enjoy this podcast but was taken by surprise when it was said that (paraphrasing here) that if you’re in Wichita, KS you would not this of 1969 as the year of the Stonewall Riots. As someone who is from Wichita, KS and grew up surrounded by gay culture (my godfather was the 3rd man to be diagnosed with AIDS in Kansas) many of us do actually know about these events and understand the deep impact they’ve had in contemporary history. We honor that history as much as those who lived through it. Please stop making us out of uneducated and unknowing people.

The worst JFK imitation in the history of podcasting!!

    Tom Hanks
Wonderful show, I am a massive fan….but who knew that Tom Hanks would make it so dull? He didn’t answer the questions asked of him nor was he remotely as charming as Tom or Dominic. No more Hollywood actors!

    Moonwalkers
Amazing! Thank you, Tom Hanks! And you guys too, of course!

    Luther
It's the best series you have presented by far. I learned so much from Luther’s place and how he affected history. That is what I’m looking for in a history podcast. Well done!!!!

    A fly on the wall
If only I could be a fly (figuratively)of any cafe or pub wall; and be able to listen while Tom and Dom chat. Their discourse is super entertaining. And the breath of their knowledge of the subject matter is wonderful.

    5 episodes of Martin Luther?
    Seems a bit much

    PHENOMENAL🙌🌟🙏
Yet another wonderfully enlightening and superbly narrated series of histories from all parts of the world. I feel like I’m traveling through time and can harldly wait to listen to each episode. If one is interested in history, I also highly recommend this series’ sister podcast called “Empire”…through which I fortuitously found this terrific series. Many many thanks to Tom and Dominic and the producers for making these gems available to us mortals🙏

    Best history pod ever
I was lucky enough to study history in Ireland, and I took a course on the second world war from two British historians. This podcast makes me feel like I can sit with them over pints, listening to two charming and erudite professors chat about their favorite stories from history — Except that Tom and Dominic are by far the funniest history professors I’ve ever heard. It really helps to be up on British culture to get their dry humor, but I promise you’ll be delighted by their stories even if you don’t know Doctor Who from Doc Martin. I recommend this podcast to everyone who would like to hear intelligent and hilarious men tell the best stories of history. Thanks to you both for this gem of a show! PS Only downside is the zeal Tom Holland shows trying to shoehorn Christianity into every moral or ethical analysis — he’s the most evangelical catholic historian I’ve ever heard of.

    Love these guys!
I teach middle school history and love all the stories and wonder of history. So do Dominic and Tom! I thoroughly enjoy the banter, teasing, laughing, dramatic readings…along with interesting historical details and fair and humble evaluations of historical persons. I was first introduced to these guys through a conversation Tom had with Bishop Tom Wright about the apostle Paul. Then a book club I’m in read his book Dominion. Eventually I found this podcast and…the rest is history:)

    LOVED the Titanic series!!
I’m a relatively new listener to the podcast, but I found the Titanic series to be completely engrossing. I could not wait for the next episode to drop. These two gentlemen do a fantastic job. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will continue to be a big fan and recurring and returning listener!

A tasty way to expand your historical knowledge
A wonderful way to dive deeply into historical events — some of which you may have thought you knew about and some of which you never knew had happened. Holland and Sandbrooke are wonderfully entertaining and knowledgeable guides down memory lane. Most importantly they have a definite perspective and aren’t shy about expressing it. I may not always agree with their perspective but it makes me think. Do yourself a favor and subscribe. And the reason that I used the word “tasty” in my title is because this is my go-to podcast while cooking or baking.

If you like listening to grown men giggle
This is a podcast of two men going down a list of notes on a topic. One will make a point the other will giggle. And back and forth. They do a lot of narrating of historical characters which I'm not sure how you call this history.

    History’s greatest monkeys
It’s most likely an Apple issue that history’s greatest monkeys won’t play. As an American I don’t trust the Brits any farther than I can throw them and I can’t help but feel they are behind this. If you two blokes are behind this it could start the next great conflict between our great countries. I’ve listened to every episode, except for episode 1 through 4, I’ll get to them Tom don’t rush me. Love the show

Terrific story-telling and great analysis. Among my favorite podcasts, regardless of genre. Other podcasts should take notes.

    I absolutely love this podcast
I love the different accents and quotes at the beginning. I love how passionate you two are about history. As an an American, I actually love hearing you guys speak proudly of England and being British. It’s refreshing!! Appreciate the mix of in-depth research and knowledge paired with humor and silliness. Thank you!

    I truly love their programs.

    Simply the best
Tom and Dom have become part of my life. The history is interesting and thought provoking. But their chemistry is the key. I feel like I’ve been invited to join an intelligent, often humorous, conversation between friends.

    The best!
My jam is WW2 and they don’t often deal with that one but these dudes know all sorts of other history. They also are quite comfortable with each other and it comes through. The best history podcast that I’ve heard. Thanks, fellas.

    NPC History
for the laymen, these 2 chaps might seem like they have some grasp on history, but sadly if they discuss any topic that you may have prior knowlege of, then much of what's discussed is at best superfical and at worst blatantly false, often bc of their overt left political leaning skewing facts to fit their narrative. expectedly weasly new U.K. British wokeism. Even when they do bring on a guest that is more familiar on that topic, it's generally someone with the same politics of the host and therefore there's little that's actually contended. they would likely fail their own metrics for academic integrity. strawman arguments, etc. I thought brits were suppose to be funny, the empire has truly fallen.

    Great for Listening or Sleeping
I started listening because I wanted to learn more about Oppenheimer, and, being a breastfeeding mom, podcasts are my ever present companions for midnight sessions. I am now a huge fan of the show and it’s making this sleep regression more interesting if not enjoyable. Always an interesting take on whatever the topic and their voices are relaxing enough to fall asleep to after my daughter finally lets me lay her down again.

    Sloppy editing
Friends the Titanic episode 1 is an editing mess. Whole parts missing.
