    The givers of great reads
I’ve been listening since the first and while I don’t go running to my kindle for every book and author they speak to, I have found that the ones I am pulled towards are some of the best reads ever. Niall Williams, Anna Quinlan, James McBride. Thank you for opening up my world to new reads and new authors .

I look forward to my Thursday drive to work every week because I get to listen to this podcast. And often my Thursday drive home involves a stop at the bookstore to pick up whatever book they talked about that week. I love this podcast. Great hosts. Great books and authors. And a great introduction to many new independent bookstores across the country. Please never stop.

    Horizons Broadened
I have found and shared many new books as a result of listening to Charlie and Kate. I love the two generational approach and perspectives and I love the interaction between the two of them. I’ve enjoyed the independent bookstore reviews and hope to visit at least a couple of them. I look forward to each week’s addition. Thank you for all you are doing to keep this fresh and enjoyable.

    A review and request😊
I am really enjoying this podcast and having the opportunity to listen to authors I admire and being introduced to new authors I’m eager to read. I hope that Louise Penny will be a guest soon! Her Armand Gamache series is so well written and her characters have become beloved by her legion of fans. I have learned so much about Quebecs history and have been moved by her lyrical writing. Please invite her to be your guest. She will not disappoint!

    Please continue Horror Series
This is a fabulous podcast Thoughtful, intelligent discussion and questions with the authors. I have found so many new books and authors. It has been refreshing to hear Charlie Gibson again as he has been missed since retiring from GMA. It is wonderful hearing him with his daughter on this podcast. I especially love the horror series. Please do not conclude the horror series. Do not underestimate the genre. Perhaps Joe Hill would consider being a guest???

Today’s podcast is lovely. The experiential education - that comes toward the end of the show - examples what your wonderful guest described as the way “the titans” wrote. Beautiful! Thank you

    Invaluable
I lead a book club of mature sophisticated readers. I have been listening to the Bookcase since it started because the Gibsons have been selecting great authors to interview and have made the books come alive for me. As a result of these interviews I have discovered some fabulous books to bring to my Book Club. Thank you!! Look forward to every week.

    98% perfect
This is in terrific podcast with enthusiastic presenters. Great wide choice of genres that will be appreciated by a wide range of savvy readers. My only teeth-clenching moment is the Stephen Colbert chestnut: it is not “illustrative“ and the Gibsons can certainly do better. Perhaps it was a good idea in the early days of the podcast, but it truly needs to be retired and replaced.

    Uplifting
The music at the beginning of the podcast sets the uplifting mood of the intelligent book discussion between Charlie Gibson and his daughter Kate. They are thoughtful interviewers and have introduced me to so many great books and their authors. I also enjoy their spotlight on and interviews with independent booksellers and their store across the country. Educational and entertaining!

    The book podcast you need!
I love this podcast. I love listening to smart folks who love books. So far every book they’ve said they love that I’ve picked up has been a winner. And every podcast I learn something new. Great podcast.

    My favorite podcast
The is a great podcast and it means so much to have you interview an author. The books come alive knowing about the background of the book and the author’s ideas. I do like the segment where you interview an independent book store owner. I would like to recommend Maze Books owners Dave and Kim Pedersen in Rockford, IL to be featured on the Book Case Podcast. From the beginning Dave wanted the store be for the community. Activities include, poetry readings and book signings by local writers, etc. For the Fall Art Scene event Dave had a speaker talk about photos of Beat poets and the photographers that took the photos. Thank you.

    A must listen!
Terrific podcast! I love listening to the wide range of authors guesting each week. But my favorite segment is the interview at the end of each episode with bookstore owners. I love independent bookstores and shop at them frequently. I would like to hear from new authors that have just one or two books published. What was their path? As a struggling writer myself, I would find that really interesting. That and I like to support new writers. Keep up the great work!

    The dynamic duo!
Being able to share a very personal father daughter discussion of books covering generations of wisdom from two distinct but literally related points of view is a true treasure for readers everywhere! Each of these podcasts is a separate jewel that you can return to and turn over in your mind again and again. Update 9/2023: this podcast just keeps getting better and better. Their July discussion with Markus Kusak, author of The Book Thief, was simply spectacular, particularly when Charlie brought up (and played) his 2007 interview on Good Morning America that propelled the book to the best seller list. Their passion for reading is a breath of fresh air, and their book selections have led me to many new authors and genres that I had overlooked. Give it a listen, you will not be disappointed!

    Do not pass Go!
I often go straight to my nearby independent bookstore for the book they have just presented. Hope will be a good example. And Mount Holyoke College also pairs with an independent bookstore, the Odyssey. The Odessey has been around since at least the mid-60’s when I was there!

The Eyes and the impossible by Dave Eggeta
Thank you so much for talking about this book. My 10 yo granddaughter was in the car and suggested we get the book. We have been reading it together. Priceless memories!!

    Too much horror
Absolutely love the podcast. We have listened to every one. Horror one a month is a little too much. Occasionally would be ok but not 25% of your show content.

    Bookish and Fun
I’m a big fan. I like the format and most of the time I love the content. Charlie just has it - grace, smarts, and asks experienced questions. Kate is smart, zany and adds an interesting balance to the show. The author interviews and book store owner interviews are always thoughtful and interesting.

    Joyful Father Daughter Duo
This is pure joy- I love books and loving listening to people talk about books. And I love the way Charlie and Kate delight each other and make each other laugh. I look forward to the episode every week!

You’re making me want to read!!
Charlie I have loved you for at least half of my life and now I’m totally enjoying your podcast with this fun and funny person who just happens to be your daughter! Your last on air partner, Joan London, was also pretty awesome. You two are so well suited to this podcast thing I can hear your excitement in each episode…and I’ve decided that I must get to a local bookstore and make some purchases very soon! Very inspiring!! Thanks for all you do with that great voice and chuckle! Your forever fan Cristie

    5 Stars for sure
I am an avid reader and I’m super excited to learn and expand to book genres outside my comfort zone. Big fan. PS Kate and Charlie I was wondering, what your thoughts are, and if you’re gonna do an episode of poetry. If so , maybe consider Sara Kay and her work with Project Voice. I am also a big fan of Rudy Francisco.

    Just browsing the book case…
I discovered this podcast within the last couple of months. The best part of that is that just like going to the library, I have been browsing through the episodes based on favorite authors or interesting topics. I have added many books to my hold list based on this podcast. The interviews are thoughtful and get me excited to read these books which is saying something since already I love reading! I also enjoy hearing about the independent book stores too.

    Love the time
My wife introduced me to The Bookcase. I immediately became hooked on the format and the enthusiasm of Charlie and Kate. No matter the author or the subject, fiction or non fiction, I enjoy the show from beginning to end. Thank you.

    Favorite podcast!
I grew up on GMA and love books so that initially brought me to “The Bookcase” but now I look forward to Charlie & Kate’s fun banter, book recs, spotlights on local bookstores and more. Hope this wonderful father/daughter team keep chatting about great reads for years to come.

    My first podcast
I have loved Charlie for many years such a wonderful person! I am not tech savvy so my daughter got me hooked up to podcast so I could listen to Charlie and Kate. I cannot wait to get my James Comey book. I would like to know if they read “ The 5 Wishes of Murray McBride?

    Charlie Gibson saves this podcast
Kate is getting better, but she talks too much and does not listen very well. I find this be very annoying. I enjoy Charlie very much.

The Best Stocked Book Case Ever!
I love everything about this podcast! Charlie and Kate Gibson are smart, well-read, approachable and inviting hosts. Their guests are the most compelling people in the book industry today. Love the authors, booksellers, and editors who have been guests on the show. And you can tell how important books are to the Gibsons and how much they enjoy the people they interview. It brings those of similar mindsets into the room with them. It’s a great way to learn a great deal about the authors and what gets them writing.

    Hooked on this podcast
As a bookworm, I am hooked on this podcast. It is a special treat at the end of the week, like a candy bar or Fritos. I eat up the banter between this father and daughter team. It is obvious they LOVE to read books. And the interviews with their authors are fantastic - not scripted. I just caught up with a podcast I missed in February. They interviewed Amity Gaige about her new book - The Sea Wife. I loved how Gaige confessed to being a child poet and her obsession about writing about troubled marriages. I read her novel Schroeder in two days. (Yes Kate you are right - the book is incredible and I was rooting for Eric and his sad screwed up life and his love of his daughter Meadow). I now can’t put down The Sea Wife. Thank you both. Great podcast.

Purchased Three Books from The Bookcase!
I love listening to the Gibson’s! Bought three books thus far and in fact one book twice! Amity Gaige, Doug Bauer and J. Ryan Stradel have found their way into my reads and gifts to others. I am really grateful for the podcast on all my long drives for work.
  • Thanks for the lift
Finding the joy in reading and in life
I am just back to The Book Case after a month away immersed in a sudden personal tragedy. Catching up with Kate and Charlie — with their playful banter, their deep appreciation for writers and reading, the insight and respect they bring to each encounter and their humor and affection is helping lift me up out of the isolation of my loss. Writers create worlds, connections, human bonds. Charlie and Kate bring us into those worlds. This podcast is a gift and I’m grateful for it — and to them.

This podcast has not just widened my diet of books, but has turned out to be something I look forward to listening to every time there is a new episode. I appreciate the humorous and insightful conversations that they have with authors. I also love the interviews with independent bookstore owners at the end of the episodes.
