Artist Decoded by Yoshino

"I started this series as a means for exploration, an exploration of self, and an exploration of the perspectives of other artists. This series is an unabridged documentation of conversations between artists. It’s a series dedicated to breaking down the barriers we tend to set up in our own minds. I want to inspire future creatives to have the courage to explore and experiment. This is about making dreams a reality and not about letting our dreams fall to the wayside. My intention is to give my audience a sense of real human connection, something that feels rich and organic. When I was thinking of a title I thought of the word “movement”. In relation to the Renaissance period in art, my goal for this program is to signify a rebirth of consciousness towards the way we look at contemporary art."- Yoshino (@yoshinostudios)

    5 stars for 5 reasons:
    1. It’s a must-listen for artists and creatives. 2. It is inspirational for ALL types of artists and creatives of ALL different mediums. Very inclusive. 3. It goes deep. Doesn’t just talk about art business, it discusses life, and art in a very developed fashion. 4. The episodes aren’t short, which is how I like them. Perfect to listen to throughout the day and in the car. 5. Yoshino’s voice. Very enjoyable to listen to. I am a 20-year-old artist entrepreneur. I feel like I am learning from art masters of all kinds, that I would have never learned about, if I went to art school. Broad interviews that go deep.

    Great podcast!!
One of the best podcasts with great in depth conversation with a variety of artists. The host has an unusual perspective and asks very thought out and in depth questions. It’s more of a conversation and he gets into the minds and deep thoughts of each artist. Very inspiring and I hope you keep adding new and different artists to the show.

    Reflective Depth
This podcast has become a haven for genuine, authentic and intentional conversation between Yoshino and guests. The level of depth every conversation has, leaves you full of wisdom and inspiration to then pursue your own craft. If you haven’t listened, I would strongly recommend doing so, as it has remained one of my favorite podcasts for the last four years!

    How to make new artists
Absolutely love this podcast, it is giving me an opportunity to meet so many interesting artists that I would never otherwise have known about. The interviews are deep, honest, as they unpack the inner most thoughts of the artists in terms of intention and practice!

    The best art podcast around
Inspiring conversations with some of the top working artists today. While maintaining focus and insight, these interviews still offer charm and lighthearted moments of laughter as they dive deep into the creative process and the emotionalism of art making. Frequent topics of philosophy, books, film, spiritual intuition, and mental health. Great for listening while working on your own art, the morning commute or helping pass time at work.

    Studio Sound Track
I was introduced to Artist Decoded a couple of years ago by friend and artist Dillon Samuelson.  AD has been my go-to podcast for studio listening since then. What separates AD from other visual arts podcasts (at least for me) is that the conversation takes place between two artists that often don't share the same media as a practice.  In other words, you don't often have two painters taking shop.  Instead, you may have a photographer interviewing a painter, or a director interviewing a printmaker.  This changes the dynamic of the conversation so that both parties have to more creative with their language and use of analogy when talking about ideas or materials that are specific to a particular practice. I  learn more about various kinds of artistry.  The flow of the podcast is closer to a conversation than an interview, which I like.

    Perspectives from Artists to Artists
I listen to this while I’m working in the studio, and it’s really nice to hear other artists’ ideas and perspectives when it comes to similar issues. I’ve had a hard time building momentum with my work lately and listening to Yoshino and his guests always put me in a productive and good headspace. The easygoing back and forth is pleasant, and I love the deep and tough questions they bring up. Never stop making these. Thank you.

    #82 Edward Colver
I was bummed near the last 15-20 mins... The hosts seemed bleak as soon as Edward finally warmed up. I am a fan of this podcast but it’s not my job to take advantage of non-coerced information.

    This show is A M A Z I N G !
I am 1000% hooked! thanks for such a great show. I'm an artist that didn't train fully around other artists to even have these conversations and it's great to know that every part of the process, struggles, learning, curves, doubts, realizations and everything in between is absolutely natural and normal to the life of an artist. Check it out. Inspiring, insightful and grit giving. Thanks and keep these shows coming <3 !

    Life changing
I knew and followed the work of many guests that came on but had no idea what they were like as real human beings. It's really interesting to get to know the artist behind the art. The host Yoshino is good at making the guests feel comfortable so they can tell their stories. I dare you to listen to an episode and not feel inspired.

    Must Listen.
This podcast has been a breath of fresh air in my life. It is encouraging to hear other artists discuss real topics and just be honest with eachother. As an artist myself, this podcast has been very beneficial for many reasons. Thank you Yoshino for doing this.

    Love this!
I’ve been listening to “Artist Decoded” and wanted to say how much I love and appreciate these interviews with these amazing artists. I’m a pretty introverted person but I crave connection with people, and when I listen to podcasts like this, it makes me feel connected and not so alone—like, I’m not crazy, people actually go through the same things I’m going through. I love hearing about the artists’ backgrounds and process, and about how they got to where they are now. Very inspiring.
  • soSHOOK.com
    Misleading title?
To be fair, I only listened to one episode. However, I found nothing of value here. Came for inspiration in the arts and was bombarded with opinions on pornography, religion and politics. No substance.

    Excellent Artist Podcast
Solid production and labor of love put behind this podcast. Artists talking with artists on their philosophy, process, life, movies, culture… you name it they discuss it. Heartfelt and insightful into many artists' lives. I look forward to future episodes.
  • bh778
    Good
Great show just wish the host would talk less about himself and focus more on the visiting artist.
  • Blurred Artist
    So far super great!
I'm a huge fan of Brad Kunkle's work, so I dove into that episode right away when he shared it on IG. I really appreciate you guys doing this. I've been trying to get back into painting after a long pause of 10 years since school and I feel your podcase will inspire me with ideas and brilliant minds.

    Awesome Podcast
Loving the casual interviews with artists I care about. As much as these podcasts are about art, they delve into the trajectory of the artist, their successes and struggles, latest interests and side projects and everything in between. Getting to hear the voices behind the work produced gives more depth to both the art and artist, and not only encourages but inspires others to pursue their creativity. I really enjoy listening to the podcasts while I paint in my studio. Makes me feel like I'm in the room with them, listening in on some really fascinating conversations. Love how Yoshino is able to create a natural setting for artists to express and talk about the things these artists care most about, even if it's not always art related. Every session is gold, I'd highly recommed it! I randomly stumbled across this podcast on instagram and I am so glad I did!

    My favorite podcast
One hundred percent my favorite podcast. I love the wide range of perspectives and philosophies on art, as well as the life experiences that you hear from such a broad range of incredible artists. Each time I find out about someone knew on this podcast, I immediately follow them on instagram. If you're a creative of any form, I highly recommend that you subscribe.

It is rare to come across a podcast where the listener can immediately sense the connection between the host, Yoshiko, and the artists he interviews. The format is very casual and easy to listen to at any situation. Great and informative selection of guests!

    Worth your time
I've been a full time painter for 6 years and have found this to be the best art related podcast out there.

    Sounds for my Soul
I absolutely love this podcast! Every time I listen it inspires and motivates me to create more and just be. Sometimes while listening I even find myself jumping into the conversation with excitement or in agreement. I don't usually listen to podcasts, but when I do, it's Artists Decoded. Keep it up Yoshino! 🙌🏻❤

    Amazing!
A great podcast for all creative types providing thoughtful interviews with contemporary artists and creators of all kinds. The podcast was little shaky at first but Yoshino and his guest hosts have really found their voices and developed this podcast into a really wonderful resource for all kinds of artists.
  • Clboys
    Keep up the great work!
Yoshino interviews from such a relaxed and respectful place, it creates these open and authentic, extended conversations with incredible artists. I feel so strongly that we grow in our humanity when we listen to other people’s stories. I have found myself nodding and smiling, learning something new about the artist and about myself in each episode. Also as a side benefit, my instagram feed and playlists have gotten so much better just from following the artists or checking out the music that gets mentioned. Yoshino and the artists who are interviewed on his podcast have became my own virtual artist tribe, support community while I'm building one in real life as well.

    Essential Podcast for artists
This podcast is gold for artists, especially visual artists (like myself). Just listen! Yoshino's interviewing skills clearly improve over the life of AD, but hey it's a podcast not Charlie Rose. While some interviews are better quality than others (seems the Phil Hale interview wasn't edited, sound quality on others isn't mastered, etc.) - this podcast opens up the lives of artists in a way you can't really find anywhere else. Good stuff!
  • shpence4hire
Good idea, could be better executed.
I love the idea of this show and have really enjoyed listening to some of the artists that have been featured. The host is a bit green and some of his questions and comments are cringe-worthy. He wants to liked by the guest too much. Hopefully this will get better as he matures. If I could give some constructive criticism it would be to ask the host to keep his own experiences short, I’m more interested in the guest. And no need to rephrase (less elegantly) what the guest just said. If there was just one thing I would change it would be to have the host stop making the “Ummm” noises. It interrupts the flow of what the guest is saying and I find it completely annoying. Other than that I might edit some of the episodes down because they seem too long for the actual content.
  • RAiiNzonme
    Revolutionary for upcoming artists.
Since I've started listening Artist Decoded my views on art have changed almost entirely. Yoshino is phenomenal at guiding the interviews and letting them create their own paths. You are almost literally stepping into the mind of the artist. I will listen for as long as this podcast goes on.
  • TheHorologist
    Inspirational
Listen to this in the morning, in the evening, before you sleep, drive, or shower because this podcast just fits. All the topics pertain to art and it's all real. It's not a cut and dry interview of your favorite emerging or established artists, it showcases real conversations. It's honest, it's relaxing, and it's very intellectual. It has a laid back vibe that's inviting and encouraging (especially if you're looking to be inspired).
