    Wow
I just listened to your interview/discussion with Mohammed el-Kurd. Bravo, just bravo! I am strengthened by both of you, but especially with how Mohammed finished the podcast. The comparison of life in the Us currently, where pro Palestinian people are getting resistance and punishment for their views-to life in the occupied West Bank. The absolute necessity of not being intimidated and silenced, but continuing to publicly resist and push back. YES. All of our lives, the lives of future generations- living with dignity and justice-depends on what we do right now.

Great show for people on the left who want to learn and think
Dan Denvir is a deeply thoughtful and well prepared host. He goes deep on a wide range of topics including issues around the world with very smart and interesting guests. Check out the 9+ hour long series on the modern history or Iran for the ur-Dig experience

    Fantastic Podcast
Must-Listen for anyone on the left.

    A morally unmoored left
I’m unsubscribing from this podcast for its cowardly, tankie apologia for war crimes. Its a betrayal of leftist principles, and its a movement I will never, ever participate in.
  • Bunny Cub
Been listening for years: no more
No mention of concertgoers murdered and kidnapped because it’s by your chosen side? A leftism that can’t decry murder of innocent people is a cold pose indeed. Your academic learning defends you well. Unfollowed.

    My favorite
I often listen to episodes a couple of times because they are so thought provoking. Really helps me understand the world.

A educational podcast that should part of school education programs. This podcast deep dives and gives you context to the history or book or topics that is being talked about.

    An invaluable resource
The Dig is an invaluable resource for the American left, and for anyone invested in understanding the world in order to change it.

Brilliant yet chilling Higher Ed analysis
Excellent discussion of the past, present and future of higher education. I now have a broader understanding of the social and political economic forces that have brought us to the crisis we see today.

Listening to saliva the entire episode
The host and guests really need to drink water before recording. Dry mouth leads to being able to hear the movement of your spirit through the entire episode and nothing is more disgusting in a podcast.

    Dig The Dig!
Dan is smart, well-read, engaged, and asks good questions. His guests - mostly academics - offer a left perspective on their areas of expertise. The Dig will enhance your understanding of the world-dig it!

Really loving this series hosted by Golnar Nikpour and Eskandar Sadeghi-Boroujerdi. Would love to hear more from them in the future.

    Amazing
My favorite leftist podcast: extensive and in-depth interviews with scholars, on topics they know in and out. Great interviewer !
  • HeyNomad
One of the best for leftist thought
Always stimulating and enjoyable. Daniel Denvir is a great interviewer. He has an easy manner but is sharp and focused in these in-depth interviews with left scholars, artists, writers, and activists. He obviously does his research. Some episodes might be difficult without background knowledge in the topic but in general they make even very complex issues accessible and digestible. One of the best, absolutely worth a subscribe and deserving of support.

    Very thought provoking
I love the dig because the host invites interesting authors and gives them the time and space to seriously consider ideas from diverse perspectives. It’s like having a global colloquium series. Thanks!

    Best political podcast today
Glad I found Jacobin and subsequently The Dig. The host is well-versed and it's clear the show puts a lot of time and energy into making an excellent and regular show that touches upon prescient subject matters with the subject-matter's experts. The guests are always able to discuss the subject matter from deep insight, though, and experience - often in ways I had never considered before. This podcast is essential listening for the American left, and is the first podcast, out of the countless I've listened to the past 15 years, that I've decided to support monetarily. Keep up the great work Daniel.

You know it’s a good podcast when you’re forced to pause it to take notes
More than once I’ve tried to listen without fully paying attention. Not that kind of podcast. It’s amazing how much you can learn from this, and it’s not just facts thrown about, but deep analysis and context added. Agree with the politics or not, you’ll learn quite a bit.

I learn something new every time
At this point in my life, I find myself thinking “my politics are settled and I won’t have another major paradigm shift ever again” and I know that can’t be good. Thank goodness I found The Dig! I’ve learned so much and come to understand things anew that I previously thought I either understood completely or didn’t care about (the inflation episode comes to mind!) This is essential listening for me and perhaps you too. Thanks to everyone who makes it.

    Invaluable interviews
    Insightful and thought provoking
  • SShinobuS
A warehouse of varying leftist ideals, light on substantial criticism.
It is hit or miss with these episodes, often it’s a meandering summary of a book that a guest has recently written with little pushback or prodding about the historical or philosophical context in which a claim is made. There seems to be a lack of contextualizing radical ideas within the material conditions that they originate and exist, episodes become long orations about the ought without the is. Fairly bourgeois in its conception and like a long form meme in its execution.

    Wonderful
An insightful and approachable podcast with great guests and an awesome ethos.

The best political podcast in the game
The best researched, most intense podcast about leftist thought in the game. I’m so grateful to have something this good available in the USA.

    Go Daniel Denver
This is a brilliant podcast. The Dig gives complex and nuanced issues the time they deserve and communicates leftist thought in an insightful manner.

    Never mind grad school.
Save your dough for the revolution and just read along. In all seriousness, it would be great if there was a reading list for upcoming episodes and one could read in preparation for the next episode. Denvir is a close reader and his clarity and questions are illuminating. Thanks for this hard work.
  • jwheel9
    Best political podcast in English
Denvir thoroughly reads new works by left-leaning activists, scholars, and thinkers & clarifies their points with incisive questions. Guests are always selected based on the current political situation in the US & worldwide & each episode leaves the listener with new analytical lenses through which to see Empire, capitalism, and the resistance and revolutionary movements born of them. Cannot recommend another podcast more

    Good interviews
Good guests on pertinent topics. Host generally lets the experts explain without posing too many leading questions.

    As Insightful as Politics Gets
Dan Denvir’s podcast is deep. Depending on the interview, the podcast might cover politics, history, political science, philosophy, economics, race, gender, public policy, etc. Denvir is a wonderful host, well-read, kind, and a terrific questioner.

    Ukrainian sociologist Volodymyr Ishchenko
Yes the 1960s new left is alive and well, with the center of gravity here being anti-US imperialism and anti-CIA, just like the 60s. Humorous to see that this anti-CIA pacifist point of view on Ukraine is the same as Tucker Carlson‘s on Fox News.

Excellent podcast on history and current events from a left perspective
Daniel Denvir has been referred to as a left-wing Terry Gross, but he is so much more than that. This podcast is so wide-ranging. It examines developments all over the world and takes the time to understand themboth historically and systematically. DD ably summarizes his guest's or guests' core arguments at the beginning of each episode, which provides an overarching framework that allows the listener to follow along the interview in its entirety. His questions are sophisticated, yet incisive, and consistently provoke thoughtful responses from the guests. I particularly enjoyed the episode from a while back about the involvement of the Catholic Church in the Cold War as well as the more recent episode on cryptocurrency. Each episode runs about two hours long, but they are well worth your time.

    Fascinating material week after week
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed so many episodes of The Dig thanks to fascinating interviews with really well informed subjects and a very well prepared host in the form of Daniel Denvir. As a labor radical and novice Marxist I’ve learned so much about the world and about the history of labor movements and revolutionary movements around the world. It’s a treasure to have this perspective in the midst of so much media driven almost entirely by monetary interests. I enjoy the new episodes and digging into the vaaaaaast archive when I need something new.

    Favorite Podcast
The Dig is a treasure. I have learned so much from this podcast over the years. All the episodes are worth listening! I keep returning to my favorite interviews and learn something else with each time listening. Daniel does an extraordinary job with the interviews- he is always well prepared and is an extraordinarily engaged interviewer.
  • evancmac
    My favorite podcast
I learn so much from Daniel. It’s the type of podcast where I’ll share an episode with someone, we’ll both listen, and then have a conversation digesting it and sharing thoughts. Wonderfully accessible, even in fields where I don’t have any background - while still demonstrating cutting edge analysis in my domain expertise. I am always recommending this to friends.
  • Coreydreidy
Good but needs to be shorter
I really enjoy the dig but it needs to be about half as long. 2 hour plus long interviews are not accessible. Otherwise I enjoy and crave to listen to leftists chatting
  • LTEbroken
    Incredibly engaging analysis and discussion!
I’m hooked, really look forward to every new episode, a breath of fresh air from the noise of other social and political commentary podcasts featuring engaging discussion with experts of all flavors!
