    Wonderfully entertaining
Everything you didn’t know you wanted to know about Shakespeare and more. Each episode is entertaining, insightful and thought provoking. This is a thoroughly enjoyable podcast.

    Never stops being interesting
Approaches Shakespeare study from every possible angle. I sometimes think I won't be interested in a particular episode, and am always wrong! Episodes are not so long that I lose interest, and it's easy to binge. Very glad to have found this!

    My favorite podcast!!
Wished I found this during the pandemic. I would have survived it better. Love every episodes. Richard II and Henry IV episode is so informative and really added to my understanding and enjoyment of these two plays I recently read.

Love this show. Good variety of topics and guests. Really interesting conversations.

    Top-Flight Guests, Subpar Host
I want this to be my favorite podcast, yet it will never achieve “favorite” status as long as Barbara B remains the host. She is less interested in what the fascinating, expert guests have to share and asking effective follow up questions than she is in shoe horning in her sometimes unrelated questions. She does not sound at all curious about the topic at hand; rather, she sounds pumped up to be the host of a podcast. She ruins what otherwise would be a must-listen experience.

    A Graduate Class in Shakespeare
I’m not an English teacher or professor, but I have always loved watching Shakespeare’s play. This podcast is akin to an exegesis of Shakespeare’s world and interpretation. I am never bored and learn from every episode. I’m looking forward to seeing my next play with all this knowledge to inform my experience. I will definitely visit the Folger when I am next in Washington, DC!

    Quality!
Always a pleasure to hear artiss sharing their Shakespeare experiences. As other actors know It turns out that the most celebrated names in the Theatre are just real people like everyone else. The behind the scenes sharing of how specific moments onstage were achieved as well as antics offstage are worth a close listen.

    Perfect Shakespeare
As varied and intriguing as the bard himself, the Folger Shakespeare Podcast present wide-ranging, accessible, interviews with all manner of professionals and experts in the field of Shakespeareiana and environs. I never leave an episode without a fresh perspective and appreciation for literature as a whole and Shakespeare in particular. Barbara Bogave has the grace and mien of Terry Gross at her best.

    The shows don’t disappoint.

    Shakespeare Unlimited
Excellent series of podcasts. My only problem with them is also my only problem with the Folger Library itself—it is not truly scholarly. Instead, it’s part of a faith-based cult that refuses to look objectively at the historical question of who wrote Shakespeare. During the last decade, they have gone from being neutral on this question to ignoring it and censoring those who try to introduce relevant evidence.

    Truly Wonderful!
This is an excellent, wide ranging podcast for all lovers of Shakespeare. Barbara Bogaev is an exceptional interviewer. She has a deep knowledge of Shakespeare, which informs her wonderful questions. She makes the interviews into conversations. I would love to have more episodes with actors and directors. And I’d love to have some exploration of the authorship question, but maybe that is a verboten topic for the Folger.

Hardly a better way to spend one’s time
The best part of this rare and erudite podcast is its subject, of course, but that is closely followed by the impeccable attention paid to the production of the shows. They are such a treat because they are tightly edited and have the benefit of an interesting and articulate introduction followed by one of the most talented, smart and natural interviewers working today. The shows do justice to the subject, no easy feat.

    Knowing more
If you even just know of Shakespeare’s plays, this podcast is entertaining. Interesting guests, lively interviews and a whole lot more you didn’t know about the plays, directing them and the period they were written.

    Fascinating and lively
Folger’s Shakespeare Unlimited podcast is a series of lively and engaging conversations. Each episode is a scholarly and astute exploration of some aspect of the bard's life or rworks. I absolutely love listening to this podcast!

    Must listen for Bard lovers
Unparalleled. Up to date, open to new perspectives, admirable.

    Barbara had to go
A lot of really interesting guests but the host is a horrific human being. Listening to an episode about teaching Richard III in prisons and she challenged the guest for using No Fear Shakespeare because it dumbs down the poetry.
  • Yellow Springs listener
    Exceptional!
This podcast is exceptionally well done. The interviewer is excellent: knowledgeable, clear and blessed with an infectious sense of delight. These interviews touch on acting, language, history, scholarship- you name it. Richard Paul is a gifted audio producer. Thank you for this reliably engaging podcast, Folger folks!

    How We Hear Shakespeare
I listened today to the interview with Carla Della Gatta. It was interesting and informative but I thought, on at least two occasions, I heard a singular subject and the plural pronoun “their,” in the same sentence, referring to the same person. I hope and trust that the Folger is not succumbing to the progressive wokeism that is so harmful to good English grammar.
  • jconrad622
    Awkward interviews
I think the topics are great, but I often feel that the interviewer isn’t listening to the expert and hasn’t done her homework, which is kinda awkward. It sounds like the interviewer is trying to snow off how much she knows, whether it pertains to what the expert is talking about or not.
  • RocketMan*
    Going Woke
When the podcast talks about Shakespeare it was okay, not great, but okay. The cloying interviewer was something to work around but they would usually get some interesting guests. But then they got into the woke thing and became obsessed with race and gender. Critical Theory and its recent spin off, CRT, are, in fact, obsessed doctrinaire formulations that force everything to be about race and naturally its all about victim vs oppressors. 1) Thats very bad history, 2) Well, duh, that’s marxist, and 3) It’s boring. Moreover, since the ultimate goal of CRT is to package racial animus for political gain in the present, then it simply becomes indoctrination. Like, who the heck would ever listen to a podcast about Shakespeare and want to be indoctrinated by lefty loons who in the quest to wash their liberal guilt end up advancing an ideology that hides the fact that “anti-racism” as practiced IS in fact racism? I, and many others, don’t listen to Leftist racists. This podcast is canceled.

I am ENAMORED with this podcast!
I first discovered Shakespeare Unlimited a few years ago (through the mind blowing Robben Island Shakespeare episode), and I have been absolutely in love with it ever since. It is my go-to. The Folger Library is a global treasure, and Barbara Bogaev who hosts most episodes asks the most brilliant, informed, inclusive dialogues. To Shakespeare lovers, or anyone even remotely interested in storytelling, I cannot recommend this podcast enough!

    Interesting & Relevant
I learn so much about Shakespeare from this podcast – but I also learn a lot about the world today. This podcast shows why studying old literature is interesting and still worth our time.

    Shakespeare Unlimited
Shakespeare in Harlem Renaissance was wonderful! I knew a tiny bit about black theatre in the US so I found the interview fascinating. Two brilliant women discussing the history and answering my questions as I listened. I found Shakespeare Unlimited via the Folger Library book group, Words, Words, Words.

    like auditing a college course
Found this podcast while looking for discussions about Maggie O’Farrell’s Hamnet. I visited the Folger Shakespeare Library a few years ago and have dreamed of returning since—this podcast makes me feel like I’m studying there. Such a joy to hear these fascinating conversations. They’ve really given me something to look forward to in quarantine!

    Not just for Shakespeare experts
The podcast covers a wide range of topics because Shakespeare touches so many aspects of our lives and culture. The interviewer, usually Barbara Bogaev, is very good and brings out the best in the people she’s talking to. Worth a listen by anyone, not just Shakespeare fans.
