RHG66Excelente podcastI thoroughly enjoy this podcast series and anxiously await for new episodes. Brahms is my favorite composer and, as Kevin, I consider his violin concerto to be among his finest works, if not the finest. Kevin’s narration goes beyond the typical “composer biography” in its detail on the contextual relation between a music composition and its composer’s life, state of mind and motivation.

bluemusicnutMuseOpen OrchestraIs that actually a synthesized orchestra? That is incredible!

TorchminiMusic History in Great Story TellingThis show uncovers wonderful details of the history of Western music and tells it in a compelling way. I have especially enjoyed the Beethoven and Brahms series but all have been in depth and intense.

Yaya78Very well done!I’m so glad I found this podcast! I’ve always wanted to hear such in-depth stories and interesting interviews. Now I’m waiting for Mozart!! I just wish the author would put more effort in pronouncing foreign names correctly (couldn’t figure out for example he was saying “Bettina”). I’m willing to help with Italian ;)

horn_playerIncredible detail and gripping narrativeFor lovers of music history (and particularly Bach Beethoven and Brahms) this podcast is an absolute must. I could listen to this podcast all day!
-
Ce_musicOutstanding!A deeply researched podcast. The GCP is an invaluable resource for serious students of music, and yet Kevin Nordstrom’s delivery makes it accessible to anyone. The combination of biographical information, musical commentary, and spectacular recordings is truly brilliant. The Brahms episodes are particularly masterfully done, though all episodes are highly recommended!

big al maghrebWell-researched and always entertainingKevin does a great job of presenting detailed material in an accessible and engaging way. He humanizes his subjects and gives their key works enough biographical context to make them new again. And he is an excellent advocate for violists.

katlygraceHigh quality, very detailedI love this podcast! There is so much attention to detail, and I learn so much with every episode. I especially enjoy the music put between the talking- it really gives you a full sense of the composer. I would definitely recommend a listen.

Star_ThrowerExcellent!I've listened to the Beethoven podcasts so far, and I found them very informative and well done. A great mix of biography and music. Together, the Beethoven lectures are as good as most books one might read on the master. I would love if Mr. Nordstrom did a similar series on the life of Mozart. What a treat that would be. Thanks!

elviajoveJudith interview about SchumannI love your podcast in general but this show was very frustrating because it was done via phone; muffled and very hard to understand much less appreciate.

Boulez25Pros and ConsPros: -This podcast is well researched with some excellent information -It provides a niche that you don't hear with other podcasts. Cons: -I think what bothers me most about this podcast is host's delivery of the text is so filled with affectations. He has this habit of emphasizing the last word of every sentence and it gets old really quickly. I mean, who talks like this? It's like he's talking to a bunch of five year olds. Again, it's too bad because the info is good, it's just really hard to take the way he delivers it. -I wish there were more musical excerpts at least in the Ligeti episodes -The host mispronounces SO many words. I went through the Ligeti series and I lost count of how many words were not pronounced correctly. Among those that were wrong included Conlon Nancarrow (both first AND last names), Tabea Zimmermann, and Saschko Gawriloff. And that was just in part 3. These sorts of things really bring down the quality.

nre56The Always Fantastic Dr. NordstromI happened upon this podcast as I was researching my music theory professor, Dr. Kevin Nordstrom, and I was so happy that I did! Since my first class with Dr. Nordstrom I knew that he was a great teacher; moreover, this has been more firmly cemented now that I have taken more courses taught by Dr. Nordstrom! When teaching he always offer a very thorough, clear, and digested for of what we are studying to get us as students off on the right track. As with his teaching, Dr. Nordstrom's podcasts give a very thorough and well-digested look into the lives of these Great Composers. They offer some very fun and valuable insight into these composers lives thanks to the extensive research and preparation Dr. Nordstrom goes through in order to present these podcasts. All in all, this is a *wonderful* podcast that I will be sharing with my friends and fellow music students and educators alike!

GlennHarmanThe Great Composers PodcastThese are wonderful podcasts. I love all of the personal information about the composers, and also all of the tidbits about contemporaries, including other composers, patrons, etc. Also, the podcasts are full of historical bits about what else was going on in the world that impacted on the life of the composer under discussion. These are very well researched and very interestingly presented. They are a great way to learn about the composers and their music. Excerpts of music are wonderfully used to demonstrate what was being written as various other events occurred.
