    Arrogant
Always amusing to me when certain professions swear there is still doubt whether narcissist Dr. Jeffrey MacDonald slaughtered his family. Naw. Scientific evidence, especially new proven dna of his hair in his wife’s dead hand seals it, but Chris Watts family annihilation should have ended this “why would a philandering intelligent white man do something so stupid?” tired argument. Using long overused quotes shows he did superficial research which is lazy in 2019 for a 1970 famous mass murder, and the most litigated legal case in U.S. history. If you’re doing a medical podcast, stop showing such obvious, neglectful bias.

    Was this researched?
The lack of research put into this podcast is staggering. There are blatant factual mistakes made in the first two episodes on the show ‘You’….is anyone editing this?? Very disappointed, since there are so few podcasts covering this particular show.

    Fascinating show
Really high quality show if you like true crime, psychology or both. The host does amazingly in-depth research and presents the information in an easy to digest way. I heard the episode about the werewolf of wysteria and I was fascinated and horrified (in a "good" way I guess haha). Anyways, check it out you won't be dissappointed.

    Obsessed
So I came across this podcast when I was googling for information for a paper on Patty Hearst. Did I hit the jackpot. Dr. Drane’s voice is so smooth. Everyone that he has on speaks so well so it’s not annoying. I listen everyday to keep me entertained while I work.

This podcast is right up my alley! It covers all of the topics I want to hear, and the discussion is engaging and easy to follow. I love that they discuss the psychology behind fictional characters in addition to real life people and problems. Very entertaining!

    In depth and fun
I had a good time listening to just a handful of these episodes. Loved the Cobra Kai episode especially, I really enjoy how the characters and plots are broken down on a psychological standpoint!

I just started listening in the first minutes and i’m already hooked!! It gives me that chills but it’s entertaining at the same time! Kudos to the way the story is being told, very detailed! Can’t wait to hear more 🙏

Exactly the kind of talks that I love
Just finished listening to the 'Psychotic Fame' episode and what I loved the most is how human the episode felt. There's dense information, quotes and research presented but the host and his guests tackle them with a real humanity that makes the show a pleasant listener experience. I highly anticipate that I'll be listening to this show more often.

    Brilliant & Engaging
As someone with a degree in psychology, the level of interest in this podcast is two-fold: it’s fascinating to hear the clinical nature that we get to delve into AND it’s engaging from the point of view of the topics that are discussed and dissected. I find it to be riveting and love listening!!

Psychotherapy is so compelling! Professor Drane does such a fantastic job of pulling you in and making you want more! The concept of the show its self draws you in. You can’t help but get caught up in the compelling content.

what other murder podcasts are missing
This was RIVETING! As a fan of other murder podcasts like LPOTL and MFM, I already know most murders and their general stories. HOWEVER! I found this take on it absolutely fascinating and fun to listen to. It goes further than even Case File! It felt like scratching an itch I have to understand these killers as weird as that sounds. Will 100% keep listening and recommend to other murderinos! Not to mention a killer intro 🤓

    Big Fan
Loving Unpopular Culture. Episodes are well thought out and the story telling is great. Love the production and what Mike brings to the table. Love how he incorporates his original music, makes for a real unique experience. Ep 156 “My Evil Twin” is my personal favorite! Thank you, Mike!
  • SleeplessInSuburbiaPodcast
    Wow!!
The topics are so entertaining and the storytelling is awesome. Can’t wait to work my way through the back catalog of episodes. I had so many “woah” moments in the couple of episodes I listened to today.

    So so SO GOOD!
Prior to listening to this podcast, I’ve recently gotten lost in a criminal psychology rabbit hole and this podcast HITS THE SPOT! Great host, very informative and very educational!
  • riddikuluspatronus1
    Excellent!
So suspenseful! The detail is superb and very descriptive. Informative and the host really captures the relationships in the stories. Entertaining and historical! Excellent podcast! Looking forward to more episodes!

    The Real Deal
I’ve listen to UPC since the beginning and each episode is more engaging than the last. Michael has this way of making you feel like you’ve been drawn into a private conversation with friends. We get to be the fly on the wall to intelligent and insightful thinking! Ashley, Andrew, Pat, Ryan, Justin and so many more have rounded out this special slice of listening pleasure. Keep it coming and don’t ever stop!
  • n0tjustanygirl
    Engaging, intriguing, educational
This host has a great voice. Each episode is fact-packed and I totally dig that he *stays on topic*! More stuff, less fluff. Haha 😆 Anyway, bravo!
  • Mammakoerner
    Excellent!
Quality podcast! Very entertaining and thought provoking. Michael and his team provide great insight into the pathology of the mind. Their kindness and compassion for those who suffer with mental illness is refreshing. ♥️ you Michael and team!

    Unfocused
Just listened to the Christmas killing spree episode. No intro to the story, no storytelling setup. Hosts sound like they’re just figuring half this stuff out on the spot. They’re not, but the bad presentation makes it sound like it. I can chat about this stuff with a friend too, why would I listen to this? I expect at least a little structure. I really like these two but the show is hard to follow, ‘cause it fails to capture your interest.

    Pure Amazesauce
This Podcast speaks to the forensic psychologist in all of us! Analytical, amazing and entertaining, Michael Drane spins an interesting twist on the macabre. He takes what’s hidden in the shadows of the mind and brings clarity to the most obscure topics. Absolutely fascinating. I highly recommend this podcast to anyone who’s curious, interested or even inquisitive. You will NOT be disappointed, trust me!

    Amazing show
If you’re looking for something to stimulate the mind and open up your thoughts, listen to this! It’s addictive and amazing! If you’re into psychology, the way he analyzes and talks about ideas in popular culture is truly astounding.

True Crime from and an ACTUAL expert!
Finally a true master takes the reigns. This podcast is equal parts forensic psychology & artistic plumage. I recently learned Michael Drane writes all the music for the show (on top of writing, producing, & hosting. I honestly don’t know how he does it all). This is the best of true crime podcasts, providing ACTUAL psychology from an expert, not just pointless rambling like all other shows. The bonus content is totally worth the money. UPC goes the distance for their patrons. Keep up the quality work!

    I want to like it
Interesting topics but I hardly get anything out of it. I lose interest as they lose focus.

    Too Patron focused
I’m sorry, I had to unsubscribe. First, the Black Mirror stuff really turned me off, seeing as how I don't have access to that show or any interest in it. Yet whenever there’s an episode not about Black Mirror, it’s a Patreon preview, meaning they’ll play half of the show and only let you hear the rest of you’re a patron. If you only care about patrons, make a patreon only show. Regular episodes mention patreon several times. Yes I get podcasts are free, and take up time for the hosts. That doesn’t mean I enjoy the direction the show has taken over time. It’s too bad because it’s a great idea.
  • Molzors
    Entertaining and Respected
I appreciate the way topics are approached on UPC. I’m always entertained but come away with something greater to think about. I’m happy this podcast exists to help people see the world from a clinical psychologist’s perspective. Thank you Micheal Drane!
  • Wen 9999999999988
    Quality Podcast.
The content is very well thought out and analyzed. The show is ran by an actual therapist, but it’s not boring. I’m glad the other person finally left the podcast. She annoyed me.
  • Ashmaso4
    Analytically Objective & Classically Captivating
Psychologically informative yet unhindered by ideology, Unpopular Culture is deliciously entertaining. With a flash of forensic plummage, Michael Drane is self-aware but not over-indulgent-clever but not overbearing. The way no art or artist ever reamins fixed, Unpopular Culture methodically examines every episode with unrelenting analytical grace, breathing life into a captivating narrative about pop culture, psychology and modern media.

    Uggghhh the politics
Lost me with the political rants. I come to podcasts to escape that special poisonous and condescending tone. With such a liberal definition of ‘abuse,’ what was that stance on Justice Kavanaugh? We are certain he’s the one who was lying? I hope so, otherwise that was what we called slander in the old days and certainly abuse by your standards today. Congrats on your moral certitude.

    Great podcast!
I love listening to this podcast! I only started listening about a month ago and have listened to all of the episodes so far, I usually listen to them while I’m walking around at work, and all of the stories and topics have been extremely interesting, I’m a psychology major also and I find myself nodding along with Michael about a lot of the topics.
  • Aubreysnew
    Great topics; poor delivery
Really wanted to love this one. Great topics but the execution and delivery doesn’t meet expectation unfortunately. A lot of it is recorded phone conversations with terrible, tin-like audio quality. Really love their topics and concepts but am left feeling misled when the episode is over and all I listened to was phone banter and a general graze over the topic. Sorry guys :(
  • thegirlemersonsmom
    Michael Drane
I originally started listening because Michael had a soothing voice, then I heard Corey and Ryan and Justin. This show is about more than true crime. It’s learning about human nature. Each episode gives you a glimpse into the differences in the never ending study that is the human species.
  • Bellagirl❤️
    Excellent!!!
I’ve been an avid pod listener for four years and this is one of the best that I have listened to. It is as engaging and informative as Serial and In The Dark. Keep up the good work I’m glad my sister turned me onto it!!!!
