Horndog23Baseball show?Thought this was a baseball podcast. Turned out to be political rambling. I love baseball history…I’m sure there’s some of it in here, but the political overtones are a serious turn off. Beware.
-
Lou2407Very well doneGreat to hear the stories about the old timers I recognize from all of the past Strat-O-Matic seasons I played. Also, the ultimate podcast for someone who believes in Democracy.
-
EdricGSteven’s knowledge is unmatched.I could listen to Steven share his knowledge of baseball history all day long.

bopefasHello Old FriendAlways very Happy to have the chance to listen to Steven Goldman’s excellent podcast The Infinite Inning. It makes my commute very special and the longer the better. Like getting a letter in the mail from an old friend you think of often but don’t always get the chance to visit with. Best of Health Steven and keep them podcast’s coming. Marty Krause

dube9The saga of baseballEvery episode: 90 minutes and over too soon.

War Eagle BeagleA thoughtful & beautiful vision of baseballThis is essentially an abstract column on the interaction of baseball, philosophy, history, & current events. I sometimes find Stephen’s politics to be nauseatingly smug & disconnected but I think his freewheeling commentary is crucial to the flow & depth of the show. The way Stephen weaves through the connective tissue is staggering & his oft too brief musings on current baseball are the only ones I find interesting. I also find Stephen’s interviews almost always well thought out & stimulating. Well worth the subscription & always a great listen.

ScurvycureSorry, had enough.Been listening for about a half year. My enjoyment of the entertaining, albeit wordy, baseball stories has been steadily eroded by the smarty pants moralizing on pretty much every hot button progressive talking point. Thinking about baseball ought to put one in a good state of mind. This podcast too often leaves me feeling preached at and angry. Goodbye.

Led GozeppelinSteve Needs a more finite inningI fell in love with this Podcast with the Great Boy for Baseball and I felt like I had found a home. Steve as saying what needed to be said and writing with passion and flair. There was that perfect balance of baseball and societal intersectionality, which supported the whole premise sublimely. No matter how far off course he went, he landed the plane But lately he’s been complaining at length that he’s suffering from severe, chronic back pain and .. well something is off We are now maybe on fourth straight pod? that is predominantly prowoman to the point where it’s starting to feel like virtue signaling bordering on the virtue skywriting. For the record I’m full bore womens rights liberal, but in latest pod, Steve ran down Joe DiMaggio as some kind of deceptive conman because he couldn’t sustain a marriage. He was a cobra - like seducer who Steve just can not fathom. But let’s think about this. DiMaggio was chronically shy, yet the world wanted a piece of him, plus he had the pressure of being the best player on the best team. He also came from Catholic background and was taught to find a wife and have kids as his primary mission in life. Basically this was a man with at least some level of social anxiety, and if he were alive today he would be in some form of therapy and maybe medication but he would at least, Joe D, like the rest of us, be searching for comfort in his own skin. So if it makes you feel better to compare yourself favorably as a “married man” to DiMaggio, I guess go ahead. It’s your pod. But not sure how long it will be mine.

nxavisTra-La-LaI love Steven’s eloquence and warm personality. I love his genuine interest in the lives, foibles, and tribulations of obscure figures from the entire swath of baseball history. But I have to give this 4/5 stars since I only listen to about 4/5 of any given episode; the political diatribes are not my cup of tea.

KyleBenning41Baseball is Life & Life is BaseballThe Infinite Inning is always a compelling, fantastic, and thought-provoking listen about life and baseball. I eagerly look forward to the show every week for its deep dive into Baseball history, current events, and the impact on life of it all. 5 stars!

Jerry in SauteeEverythingAccessible brilliance connecting dots that I didn’t know existed in the ever sprawling baseball metropolis. Soooo glad I found this. Thanks, Steven!

Ed in BrooklynBest podcastThis is the best podcast about baseball and I look forward to it every week.

allthegoodonesaretakeniguessMy favorite baseball podcastAn thought-provoking and intelligent look at the game’s history and current issues. Baseball Prospectus’s Steve Goldman has a long tenure of journalistic contributions to the sport and now builds upon those with the best baseball podcast ever. The insight, efforts and originality put into this program are second to none. If that weren’t enough, the guests add to what is already a fantastic program.
-
Okbar2Thought provoking materialAn acquired taste, to be sure, but I’ve grown to really like Goldman’s take on life. His connections from baseball to important historical events and emotional reactions to life are often very thought provoking. Loved the referral to see Last Days of Summer. Enjoyed the heck out of it and then the interview with the author. Thanks for the heads up the musical was close by, Steve! I owe ya!
-
TkmavsThe Perfect Baseball PodcastI stumbled upon this podcast after hearing Steven on The Ringer MLB Show. I am so glad I found it. From fascinating baseball history to great conversations between smart and funny people, this podcast has it all. Keep up and the great work and thanks for making my hourlong morning commute bearable!
-
Jake LampertI don’t miss an episodeLove this podcast. Goldman weaves baseball history with pop culture with all sorts of history with current baseball with great guests with...well pretty much anything and everything. Enjoy.
-
MgggggggqwertgfBaseball podcast for those with a brainSuperbly produced; a combination of baseball history and current baseball chatter with great guests. Exactly what podcasts are great for.
-
Swift2619So much more than baseballA great example of what a podcast can be - Goldman tells great and obscure baseball stories, with a historical knowledge that’s bit bonkers in it’s depth, but he also ties these stories in subtle and sometimes not-so-subtle ways to current events, both in baseball and the wider, depressing world we are living in. He and his roster of guests are warm, funny, and smart. He creates a very specific, very welcoming world for an hour or so a week, and we should all be thankful for it.
-
Kyle in NolaBaseball, and then someI’ve been with Mr. Goldman since he started this pod, and it’s up near the very top of my “favorite podcast” list. Two great baseball stories start the episodes off, and then he has a conversation in the third segment that usually is loosely hinged to baseball, but could go anywhere! Also plays a few music clips during the episodes and gives some background on the performers and songwriters. Great stuff.

Selanne55533388761My favorite baseball history podcast.I love baseball history. Steven does a great job of making each story from baseball’s past (many of which I, a lifelong fan, have never heard before) personal but not too personal. He has fun with it. You will too, unless you detest The Great American Songbook and carry an NRA card.
-
MFE PodsNothing Else Like ItI’m always looking for podcasts that do something singular, and discovered Steven Goldman’s through his appearance on Effectively Wild. The eps run long, but that’s a bonus for me. Goldman is thoughtful, thorough, interesting, and interestED - he shines a light on so many things I either never previously discovered or only knew in passing, and sounds just as fascinated while covering his material as I feel while listening to it. It’s definitely a baseball podcast, but calling it that feels reductive. It’s one of the few shows out there that leaves me feeling like I’m better for having heard it.
-
Th14jkjoeThis podcast is perfectPerfect pacing, perfect mix of thoughtful monologue, baseball lore, intro and outrospection. It’s tone and pacing let me listen to it to fall asleep sometimes, but then I’ll re-listen to it later. It’s about baseball but it also makes me feel like a better, more thoughtful human too.
-
GreatBaseballPodcastExcellent podcastLove Steven Goldman, and even at his most discursive he eventually arrives somewhere. A great companion to long drives ad a great lesson in baseball history.
-
KohbhuBaseball - and moreThis is an outstanding podcast. You'll like it if (a) you like baseball history, (b) you like Bill James & his approach to baseball, (c) you like American history, (d) you like old music, and/or (e) you like intelligent & occasionally quirky commentary & conversation. I don't listen to podcasts - or have conversations with friends - just to reconfirm what I know. Rather, I like learning, like seeing things in new or different ways, and like having fun along the way. The Infinite Inning offers all that.
-
Owen WisterPerfect FitAlways a highlight of the weekend for this long-time baseball fan (60+ years) and history teacher (40+ years)

cavalier.carverIt’s greatThis is a great baseball podcast about fitting the sport into a broader picture . If you’re looking for scores of the day this isn’t it but it’s really so much more .
-

JukeofUrlRead the ReviewsIn search of podcasts, I rarely read the reviews. But since even comic book podcasts now have people breaking into political rants, I’m now reading first before I subscribe. I’m well aware the upside of podcasts is no guys in suits telling hosts what to say. Its also the downside. When I listen to a baseball program, I don’t want to hear about your kids, your lunch or why your mother in law is a saint, even if she was a pot smoking hippy in the Sixties. This is a podcast for NPR style leaning listeners. If that’s what you like, come and get it. There’s some good content, if you can wade through the liberal guilt trips. . ..
-
The Real Stinky PeteRemarkableI so much enjoy this podcast, but I struggle to put together the words to define my admiration. Perhaps Steven could recount a story from 30's or 40's basball that analogizes my feelings about the show. Really, Steven and his guests are just a delight. And the music is so fun.
-
colbyfjamesMy favorite baseball podcastThis has eclipsed Effectively Wild as my favorite baseball podcast out there. The blend of current baseball talk, historical anecdotes, cultural analysis, and existential dread makes this the perfect baseball podcast currently available. Please make this forever, Stephen.
-
sean quigleyDopeGreat storytelling and conversations
-
David coonceGreat podcast about unique aspects of baseball historyGoldman really knows his stuff and he delivers his stories in an entertaining and thoughtful manner.
-
TanikazeErudie and engaging baseball banterMr. Goldman is one of the few writers whose literary prose makes for easy listening. His voice just flows so easily and his stories of old-timey ball are as interesting as the conversations he has with a rotation of friends and colleagues.
-
Justin of EleaA Perfect BlendThis show blends commentary of American culture seamlessly unto the ongoing baseball narrative, with just the right sprinkling of analytics on top of the heady sponge cake. Production value is high, which a quality lost on so many podcasts. Because of the multi dimensional facets adeptly supplied, there is no danger of burning out in the world of The Infinite Inning.
-
Schumi1958Without a DoubtThis is the most intelligent baseball podcast out there. Human, humorous, with a superb sense of synchronicity The Infinite Inning never disappoints.
-
GarrettOHHas become one of my favorites.Excellent podcast with it's own character. Steve and his guests bring great conversations about baseball and many other topics. Always look forward to a new episode every week.
-
mark.buckeyesSmart and FunWhat a great historian. Make history come to life. Steven is the most well thought out liberal I know. Mark Schmitz
-
xrywinxRefreshing take in baseball and the writer’s mediumI love listening to this podcast on long drives between our farm and the city markets. Steve weaves intricate tales that are part history, part self-reflection, and part current day contemplation. There is always a rewarding pay off to his stories and reporting. Profound, interesting, and great interviews. Recommended!!

Cran BoySmart, Entertaining Baseball PodcastI am regrettably late to The Infinite Inning, now desparately trying to catch up on all the episodes I missed. Every episode, Steven provides a gem of baseball history and brings on entertaining guests who discuss the game and the world around us. His commentary and questions are engaging, smart, and well-delivered. If you like baseball, you should subscribe to The Infinite Inning.
-
sisyphus216SublimeThe Infinite Inning has quickly become one of the most important parts of my baseball life - a close and thoughtful friend that meanders through baseball past and present in wonderful detail. My favorite podcast discovery of 2017. Highly recommend.
