    Welcome Back!
We saw you on Twitter about Skate Canada. Hope you will bring back your podcasts, you are missed!

My favorite skating podcast by far
Mary and Alicia are much needed voices in the figure skating world and a lot of fun to listen to. I appreciate that they offer fair-minded analytical commentary and do the legwork to speak insightfully about what’s going on in the sport. They also aren’t afraid to gush a little about their favorite performances and show appreciation for developing athletes instead of focusing on just the top 3. Overall, the most Canadian figure skating podcast out there, and I mean that in the best way.

Listener beware, you WILL become an ice dance fan!
I adore this podcast, Mary and Alicia are super knowledgeable and give balanced commentary while staying away from the drama and gossip. And they’ve made me into an ice dance fan, it’s basically impossible not to get into a sport that’s discussed with such passion and insight!

I ran out of 2020 episodes and went back to the 2018 Olympics episodes to work my way forward
Mary and Alicia are very knowledgeable about figure skating and do an excellent job of explaining the technical elements and what differentiates the teams for this new fan who was never taught how to ice skate! I do appreciate the time and dedication they have in explaining all of the dangers that exist within figure skating. This has been true since the beginning (see the shame bell back in the JGP 2018 season) and they are very intentional in praising the skaters and reminding the audience that many of these athletes are teenagers and young adults. I personally appreciate that they haven’t stopped prioritizing skater safety during COVID, and they never hesitate to explain that something is beyond their technical expertise or experience (never a pair girl!). Overall, Im a new figure skating fan, but I feel like Mary and Alicia are teaching me how to zero in on the skaters feet and understand beyond the number of rotations in a jump what differentiates first from fifth or fifteenth. And it’s wonderful to listen to two sisters talk about something that they love and share their passion for the sport with all of us!

    Great content
I really enjoy listening to this podcast, especially from the hosts’ perspective as non-Americans. Their technical knowledge, especially in ice dance, is quite impressive and helpful. I also appreciate their fearlessness in calling out federations and the IOC about their ridiculous Covid “protocols”.

    Love love love
This podcast is lovely- as a lifelong skating fan I have learned so much from them, especially about ice dance (and juniors! They got me to watch juniors!)

    We love the skating sisters!
Alicia and Mary have a way of making you feel like you’re sitting and chatting with your friends about figure skating. Of all the English-speaking people covering figure skating out there, I feel that they are the kindest while also being the most critical, the most optimistic while also being the most realistic. I love how they first and foremost respect the skaters as human beings, without shying away from being honest about skating from a micro and macro perspective. On more than one occasion I’ve found that they articulated my own opinion in a way that I wasn’t able to put into words before. This podcast is indispensable if you’re a figure skating fan, especially if you’re a newer fan like I am and ESPECIALLY if you’re someone who still doesn’t really “get” ice dance yet.

    THE skating podcast!
Insightful, thoughtful, and positive reviews from a pair of sisters who always look out for the well being of the athletes. They use their own previous training as skaters to provide thoughtful and informed explanations to listeners who may not be as familiar with certain aspects of the sport. They also always make sure to talk about each skater relative to the athlete’s appropriate goals, never putting the expectations of a world champion onto a junior-level national competitor, for example. It’s my go-to podcast once each competition ends and I always recommend it to others!

    Excellent Podcast
Alicia and Mary do an excellent job of balancing skating analysis and larger safety and cultural concerns applicable to skating in a way that invites the audience to learn and engage critically in the sport itself—And they do that while having fun! They are one of the best figure skating podcasts, both for new and old fans of the sport.

    It’s knowledgeable at best.
I appreciate their knowledge but the arrogance of their delivery is a little much. We also don’t need to spend almost 40 minutes talking about Covid and how irresponsible a certain federation is. We get it. You didn’t agree with their choices and the parents choices. Move on and talk about actual skating. That being said they also seem to think they know more than everyone. That might not be the case but the tone is a bit condescending at times.

    Fantastic Podcast!
I love this podcast and as a fan of the sport but not an athlete, I look forward to listening after each competition to understand why the skaters received the marks they did, the hosts thoughts controversial opinions, and more. It has been hard to listen to during the pandemic, though. I very much agree with most of what their thoughts and opinions on the safety of everything during this trying time but the discussion drags on for a lot of the first episode in the series of each competition and it can be hard to listen to as we’re already living it - and this podcast serves a bit of a respite from everything. I definitely think it should be mentioned but just not for as long. Or I would happily give this podcast 5 stars.

    5 Stars
Great podcast to listen to if you like to keep up with figure skating. The hosts are very knowledgeable and don’t shy away from controversial issues, which are important to cover. I appreciate their in-depth coverage of every event.

    Extremely negative
They are so negative and full of themselves. They talk like they are smarter and better than everyone else. I wish that wasn’t the case because I would love another podcast to listen to.

    Best FS podcast out there
Interesting and thorough exploration of skating in the context of the season & figure skating as a whole.

    Thank you for this podcast
I have been searching for a true figure skating fan podcast that has the expertise, know-how, and insight. The hosts know what they are talking about. The only reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 has nothing to do with the hosts or anything personal- there is strong focus on pair skating and ice dancing which I do not follow, and not so much on the ladies singles as I would like, even though the hosts do talk a great deal about that too.

    Absolutely Amazing
This podcast is a pleasure to listen to and is essential for any figure skating fan. Alicia and Mary are super knowledgeable about all the disciplines, especially ice dance, where they really explain the technicalities to people who are less versed in the judging. Also, they speak very positively about all the skaters, and they are very unbiased in their reviews. All in all, this is a wonderful listen for any skating fan.

    A++ content
These ladies are incredibly knowledgeable and diplomatic in their approach to fs commentary. They are consistently polite and take time to educate those of us who only *kinda* understand how skating works. Keep up the good work!

My favorite podcast in any genre
This is my absolute favorite podcast and hands down the best podcast about figure skating. The hosts are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all the different aspects of skating. Also, and probably most importantly, they have found a way to be critical of things without ever being unkind. I eagerly await each new episode from them once a competition has ended to get their insights and hear them gush about some of their favorite skaters and programs.

Someone should hire these sisters to be commentators
They’re unbelievably knowledgeable about everything from technical points to skater histories. They generally find something to appreciate about everyone, and at the same time are able to fairly critique popular favorites. I especially appreciate that they’re ice dancers, because ice dance is my favorite discipline but 1) tends to receive the least attention outside the most famous pairs and 2) can be really hard to understand scoring rationale for, and their analysis, at least for this enthusiastic non-skater fan, is top-notch.

    Fantastic Figure Skating Podcast
Very in-depth coverage of figure skating competitions. The hosts are knowledgeable and passionate about the sport. They are honest without being mean and they stay on topic. I look forward to their recaps.
  • Nikki562
    Very Positive Hosts
I enjoy the hosts positive outlook. They are very complementary of most skaters

    Thumbs up!
I’ve changed my mind. You two aren’t nearly as bad as the Loop one. I like it. Keep up!!!
  • Zaqué
    My favorite figure skating podcast
Flutzes & Waxels is the perfect figure skating podcast for me: they go in depth into every major competitor for all four disciplines, they explain what happened technically for each skater, and the hosts have a deep knowledge of the sport. Everything is explained clearly, and you can tell how much the two of them love the sport. The podcast is also the perfect balance of not too snarky (nothing like TSL) while not ignoring actual criticisms/negatives that should be discussed. The discussion is level-headed and realistic, and the hosts have such a good time doing the podcast that it makes the most unfortunate of events fun to relive. Thank you for all your work!!!

    One of my favorite podcasts!
I am fairly new to figure skating and find your podcasts to be very knowledgeable and helpful, especially when it comes to scoring. My drive to and from work has now become far less boring and I am always eager to get back home and watch the skates you have discussed.

Long time fans and newbies rejoice!
A great podcast for both hardcore fans and new fans. I really enjoyed listening to Alicia and Mary discuss the results and routines. The hosts do a great job of breaking down everything, as well as the taking time to discuss point deductions and mistakes that I, as a new fan, frequently don’t notice or understand. Whether you’re new to figure skating or a long time fan, this is an interesting and informative podcast!
