I stumbled across it looking for Victorian stories, Ben nails it! The atmosphere he creates is excellent. His storytelling is immaculate. Also - his voice has me binging! So good. I’ve binged the whole first season this week. All my friends are on it now too. The way he brings history to life is truly inspiring. Also he has a cute dog - that could be a twin to my own pup. Who doesn’t love a pet loving, mystery historian that writes and reads aloud this well. Props. Thanks Ben! I love it.

I found dark histories last year (2023) and this has quickly become my favorite podcast!

Ben. I’ve been there. You are smart to give yourself time.

It’s clear that a lot of research, time, and care are put into each episode. It’s not more of the same old stories that I hear over and over on other podcasts. Great narration, love the way the stories are told, and a very pleasant voice to listen to.

How is this so amazing? How is this free? It’s like I just discovered Christmas! The variety, the depth, the length, the tintillation, the mystic, the lulling voice. Thank you a million times over! So grateful.

Was recommended this podcast after clearing out my subscriptions at the start of this year. I used to listen to a LOT of true crime podcasts, but recently learned of some… iffy behavior from multiples hosts from different shows. I love Dark Histories the same way I love Most Notorious: to the point, minimal silliness (I do love when you crack up laughing while reading), focused on the matter at hand. Keep it up, Ben!!

A huge breadth of topics and each given the same meticulous research makes this show endlessly fascinating. It is delivered with humor and skepticism as well as a very human sensitivity towards the topics and humans involved. I binged years worth of shows so fast that now I’m spoiled and want a new one every day!

I love the different perspectives and stories shared! Not the mainstream stories other podcasts might cover. I love history and the influences the past has on more recent events- ties it together!

Living in Louisville, I absolutely loved the episode. So much accurate research Ben does for each story. Loved learning tidbits about the history that I never knew. Thank you so much! It was fab.

There are so many history/true crime adjacent podcasts, so it’s hard to stand out. Ben does it. My partner and I have been listening for 3 years, and Dark Histories is consistently one of the most solid and reliable podcasts in our feed. We literally could not wait for part two of the Gef the Talking Mongoose episode. Ben’s personality shines through, too. He definitely comes across as someone you would like to know. And the research! Thank you for such a fantastic show.

Within less than a minute, I knew this would be a great and detailed podcast. Not silly or with goofy side kicks, they are just very informative and very hard to stop listening to. You come away from them knowing a lot more than you were expecting to get and I cannot recommend these more. Well done Ben!

For some reason it will not let me rate it. But Ben, I would give you a five if I could. The podcast is great. The story’s are interesting, and your voice is very easy to listen to. Keep going, you’re doing a great job.

I have been listening to a lot of podcasts on any number of topics. If they are good and informative or entertaining, they are usually too short. If they are long enough to delve deeper they have way to many commercials or the host(s) jabber on about nothing other than what coffee the like or the 19 ways to support them. This podcast is definitely worth your time. Great subject matter and informative. Ben is easy to listen to and is invested in every episode, you can tell from his research. His show is the only one out of my twenty or so podcasts I support. If you like a uninterrupted story with minimal requests this is truly worth a listen.

The host just tells the stories in a soft voice and lets the weirdness speak for itself. Much creepier. The amount of research he does is impressive, too. I listen to a lot of true crime and I’ve heard the same stories covered over and over, sometimes repeating things I think are errors. This podcast brings receipts.

Everything about this podcast is stellar. The stories, Ben’s voice, the unique topics.don’t change a thing,,it’s perfect!

Decent podcast with a unique format. However, narrator constantly gets his own dates wrong. Heard him do this many times. Like dude, you’ve been telling me about a case in the late 18th century and moments later mentions a year a century later—or versa vice. This happens almost every episode and makes me think he’s certainly not writing these episodes himself or he’s got to be ridiculously stoned because he’s obviously not stupid. But come on, when you just get done saying so and so died in 18sixty something and the next sentence say her husband THEN died in 1785, makes us think you simply don’t care enough…because again, our host definitely doesn’t seem dumb. Please get it together!

One of the main things this podcast gets right as how to do advertising. It’s weird to start with that, because everything else about it is so perfect: the topics, the host, the production, the length—A+++.But I start with ads b/c SO many podcasts RUIN themselves by not taking the time to record advertisements in their own voice, so that they aren’t horrible & jarring when they come on. I hope he never makes the mistake of changing this.

My only complaint is I have finished all of them and hate waiting for more! Lol Keep them coming love them all.

Great podcast, enjoyable topics and very well done. Ben has a soothing voice so I often use it as sleep stories only to re-listen during the day so I don’t miss the content!

This is one of the best podcasts, period. Whether it’s in the car or an episode before bed, it is always a great program to listen to. Ben is an amazing storyteller, has an excellent voice, and it is evident by the quality of his programming that he puts a lot of effort into his writing, and is very good at it. Thank you so much Ben and I hope you get an opportunity to create another program. Maybe a final season for Moya?! I really appreciate your work. It’s an important part of my nightly routine. Been a fan of Dark Histories for a few years now and it is easily my favorite podcast. Ben does a great job with attention to detail and tone.

This isn’t quite true crime and isn’t quite paranormal. It’s really engaging mysterious stories that are told very well. Refreshingly unique.

The stories told in this podcast are consistently well researched and thoroughly hashed out. The host has a wonderful, relaxing voice that I love listening to as I fall asleep, and also on my way to work because I inevitably fall asleep halfway through the story and have to go back to finish it the next day😅

Love this podcast! Not only are the stories engaging and entertaining, but they have a calming atmosphere.

This is an exceptional podcast. It’s thoroughly researched and delivered in a compelling accessible way. Although its very successful, it’s still under-rated for how great it is. Just feel the need to address some of the bad reviews I’ve read on here: There are too many Americans who do not know their own native language. The host is NOT difficult to understand. He speaks perfectly clear, standard British English. Try the pod yourself before taking the word of people who can’t understand anything other than midwestern or southern U.S. English.

I was lucky enough to find this podcast while looking for ghost stories and I’m happy to say that I’m now hooked. 10/10 for mystery fans as well as history fans.
