Movie Crush

2,120

Chuck Bryant of Stuff You Should Know sits down with your favorite people to talk about their favorite movies. Simple enough, but what we get is much more than that. It’s a look at what makes a favorite thing, and why someone’s favorite movie says so much about who they are. More conversation than interview, Movie Crush, at its heart, is about the love affair we all have with the silver screen.

When is Movie Crush coming back?
I love Chuck and Noel and I really love this podcast. It’s one of my go to podcasts for movie discussions. Please come back!

    Nice smooth pace
The podcasters have a “radio” voice and easy to listen to. Some podcasts has to much banter that they forget to start the podcast until like 20 minutes in. These guys do banter for a few then leap into the podcast which I am grateful.

    sad to see it go.
i loved this podcast and noel and i wish it hadn’t ended :S

    Well…
Over 20 minutes into one episode and they haven’t even got to the topic yet. Jesus. Another one took over 30 min before they got to the topic of aliens. Incredible. These are supposed to be professionals too.

    Hit and Miss
Some episodes well done others painful to sit through. Just the host and his guest repeating lines from movies without any insights. Finally, and keeping in mind that the person who hosts this podcast purports to be an expert in movies, in the hard days night episode he literally asks Ken Jennings if movies in 1964 were being made in color. Mine boggling. And on the episode about broadcast news, claimed that James Brooks made it when he was 24 (when he was actually 43) and also claimed that the child who played Clifford Altman was the real life son of Albert Brooks. He was not. Again this dude is supposed to be an expert.

    Great run Chuck
Keep it up, what ever you choose to do. I love your talents and was heartbroken when I heard the last podcast. Noel is also awesome. Great job

    This is a fantastic pod
Becoming part of a person’s TGIF ritual is no easy feat. I am seriously going to miss the weekly visit from Chuck and guest. The Friday drop fit perfectly, right as I would be ramping up for a little me-time. The perfect sonic happy hour cocktail to usher in the weekend. Now it’s time for Chuck to consider his own me-time, and who can fault him for that? Thanks to Chuck and crew and all the wonderful guests.I woke up every Friday morning for years wondering who the guest would be and what movie. Even if I didn’t know the guest or like the movie the discussion was alway fun and never, not once, failed to hit that mark. So great Thanks for all the friendly afternoons! Peace and love Pete

    Need more enthusiasm from Chuck
Love the podcast and love Chuck, but lately he has shown very little enthusiasm for the mini crush episodes and it really hurts the experience. He often begins by saying things along the lines of “let’s finish this up and get out of here.” Also doesn’t have as many fun ‘activities’ planned for the show, so the conversations are less engaging. Where’s noels holes? Where are the polls? These two problems put together really make it seem like a haphazard, careless effort sometimes. Chucks heart just doesn’t seem into it. I hope this is just pandemic stress, etc and the show goes back to normal soon!! Best wishes

    Great pod, gonna miss it!
What a great show this is. Good job Chuck and everyone involved. Took it for granted and didn’t listen to every ep, but I’m going to go back now and listen to some oldies :)

I love this podcast. Most of the guests are knowledgeable and fun to listen to. Chuck and Noel’s mini segments are great too.

I’ve got a crush on movie crush
Came here finally from Stuff You Should Know (also 5 stars!) and am absolutely obsessed. I started at a random one- Manchester by the Sea, which I’ve seen, and immediately was hooked. (I’ve listened to the episode twice and watched the movie three times) I then binged ALL of the Chuck, Casey chats (probably my fave duo!! But honestly they’re all wonderful). Only helpful piece that isn’t always included is giving a short synopsis of the film first. Some I haven’t seen in forever. Some I’ve never seen. But even without I really really enjoy the discussions. Always makes me want to watch the movies! Keep it up each new post gets me excited for film all over!!

    Swear much
Great show, I have learned about all sorts of movies, and it makes me want to rewatch a lot of movies. I only give it four stars because the cussing feels so unnatural, and forced, and he always makes a point about how he’s able to swear on the show. Kinda stup lol

    Casual Friday
I have a few podcasts that I save for Friday work hours that serve as my “slide in to the weekend”, “don’t take life too seriously”, “let’s just get over ourselves” podcasts and this is one of them. The banter between Chuck and Noel is light, friendly and always good natured. A great way to set a tone for the weekend.

    Thanks Chuck. Got question
Great pod Have you discussed Se7en? Didn’t see it in your list. Great one as you have time Keep up the excellent theatrical deep dives

    Casual Movie Addict Geekdom
If you (like myself) are addicted to movies and you want some casual immersion into movie addict geekdom then this show is for you. Completely non-pretentious and just as comforting and rewarding as a fresh bowl of movie popcorn topped with melting SnoCaps. Chuck Bryant invites us along to talk movies with the people that make them or just love them AND the best part is we get the opprtunity to sit in on the conversation. I especially adore the Mini Crush episodes. Always a pleasure. Thank you, Chuck & Noel!

    Big fan
I love this podcast but I stopped listening for a while because I was trying to watch each movie before each episode and I couldn’t keep up. I love movies but I don’t have that kind of free time so I decided to stop thinking I needed to do that to enjoy this podcast and just catch up and listen to episodes to movies I had seen and all of the mini crushes. There is a lot of banter that chuck has with his guests but I like it. We get to know the guest and then see what they think of the movie. Thanks for all your hard work Chuck. Keep it up.

    Hit or Miss
The Monday mini episodes, I listened to them for a few months before I realized it is just an asinine waste of time about topics I do not care about when I could be listening to a more engaging podcast, which I do now so you can probably skip those episodes if you feel the same way. The movie reviews are hit or miss - most episodes are good, especially when they get right into talking about the film. When I have to sit through a 30 minute or longer interview before anyone even talks about the movie then I get annoyed, fast forward and if I have to skip ahead too much I just mark the episode as played and move onto something more engaging. It is fine to have an interview but those segments can be cut out and made into their own interview episodes for those that care to listen but for me, I am listening to hear about the films. And it is super annoying to hear about Chuck and his upbringing nearly every episode. It could be a drinking game. Lastly, this is all just me and my gripes and my interpretation of a score and review and the content I am looking for - hopefully you enjoy all the content and things I dislike and find the podcast better than I do. If not though, I totally understand.

I tried to keep listening, but I can't
I have been a loyal listener to all the "Stuff" podcasts since day one. Now I have unsubscribed Movie Crush because I do not tune in to listen to the host rave about politics and the awful state of America. Does he really think we are not aware? I sincerely hope he is seeing a therapist as his angst is more contagious than Covid.

    Movie Crush is the Best!
There is a familiarity about Chuck. He warms the heart. And, opens the mind. And, love the banter between Noel and Chuck.

    Good listen
As a huge fan of SYSK, I gave this one a shot and I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve only listened to episodes based on movies I’ve personally seen but the conversation is good. Love the background that the guest gets to elaborate on (their history with the movie and their own story). Not gonna lie, after each episode I’ve listened to I’ve totally gone and watched the movie they were talking about. They do a great job of analyzing parts of the movies I’ve found myself catching as well. Keep up the good work here. So many movies left to discuss!
  • Man for all reasons
Don’t care for your political “insights”
Stick to film reviews. I have misgivings about guys who watch movies all day voicing their opinions about what’s wrong with society.
  • JosephJohn12
Enjoyable but could use some improvements
I’ve enjoyed watching the movies (and some not lol) and the overview about them. It would be nice if the year of which movie you are referring to would be noted in the podcast because there are so many remakes these days. Some of the podcasts have them listed in the description, some do not. I’m not a fan of some of the political banter of current events even if I agree with you guys at times. Also some of the movie crushes are out of order or have repeated elements in them but they can still be entertaining. I don’t watch a movie podcast if it isn’t a movie I haven’t seen so sometimes I’ll just be listening to the crushes. Also I know Chuck doesn’t read the reviews but at times he sounds bored or less enthusiastic. There have been some movie overview podcasts that barely even talk about the movie and are just about the individual Chuck is having a conversation with which is a bit of a waste of my listening ears.

    Why?
I like the pod, but this passive aggressive stuff from Chuck to Noel is disturbing.

    Casey Pegram makes the show
I recommend listening to any episode with Casey Pegram. I’ve tried listening to other episodes and they’re hardly ever as good
  • ADVADVADVADV
Please edit out some of the irrelevant banter!
Love Chuck / SYSK, love cinema, and I’ve really enjoyed most of these episodes so far. But overall, there’s WAY to much irrelevant banter that precedes any conversation about film. Sometimes there’ll be a solid 45 minutes to an hour before they even talk about the film at all—it’s just too much. Especially given that it’s usually friends and family guesting on the podcast, I just wish someone would realize that the average podcast listener just isn’t going to be anywhere near as interested in the life story of a complete non-celebrity stranger as the host would be. No offense.
  • OrigiNole
    Bad Info
As a doctor of veterinary medicine for almost 20 years I take offense to your last guess saying that tick born diseases cause blindness. Intestinal parasites such as hookworms can cause blindness but a tick and a hookworm are completely different. Hope this helps to provide you with some much needed education...but I'm sure you will dismiss this review bc it doesn't go along with your agenda.
  • deprogrammed75
    Nope
Chuck likes to think he’s knowledgeable but isn’t especially so. Noel trying so hard on every podcast makes me cringe. Forced banter with lots of very specific opinions that seem uppity, snotty and intolerant despite the loose and laidback feel. Lots of friends I couldn’t care less about talking about their shallow ventures in Hollywood. Nah.
  • Atma L R
    A Tonic for the Times
It’s like listening to friends nerd out about their favorite movie. Even if I don’t think I’ll ever see the movie, I still like the shows.

    Good podcast but...
I listen often, especially the minicrushes which are short and entertaining. Chuck and Noel are solid and amiable. Only complaint is their occasional political commentary, which should be left out of the podcast. Not everyone who enjoys a movie podcast shares the same political views as the hosts and certainly shouldn’t have to listen to president-bashing. This is escapism fellas, not CNN
  • imelda26
Why so much hate, love this
Not sure why it has less than 4 stars?! This is a good show and I love their mini chrushes and the guests ones are great too!! Doesn’t bother me that he can get “Star struck” or veer off. It’s a great podcast to listen to! Love Noel too!!
  • Smitty51J
    One of my faves!
Love you guys! So relaxed, fun variety of conversation, can’t be beat.
  • Revolverjack
    Hmm.
The host is a nice guy and most amiable and like to here the guests talk about their favorite cinematic passions . The big problem with this pod is that the host dismissively tosses out facts about movies that are not correct without a thought . You said you don’t read reviews or care about that them but please you have the entire internet in front of you when your record . Check your facts.
  • bbbtour
    More Casey episodes
Great show! More Casey episodes please he picks great movies and I love the conversations
  • mjoeparker
Excellent podcast. I feel like I understand now.
I’ve never been a “movie” guy. I used to just watch them with no agenda. Chuck, you have made me really think about the movies I watch now. I’m a yuge Kubrick fan, and because of this pod, I now know why. For most of your episodes I’m constantly saying “huh, I get it” “I see that” “that makes sense” “where’s my beer” and other things. And the main reason I’m writing this review is that I am currently listening to the episode with Josh. I love you guys. You both have wonderful chemistry ;). I have laughed out loud sooo many times. Well done Chuck! Keep on keepin on! Joe

Discussion/reviews of films from guys who don’t see movies!
‘I didn’t see it’ is a comment said way too often with these guys. Very amateur, uninformed and unprepared for a decent podcast conversation. Not for true film true movie fans.

    good natured host and guests
It’s not a film class, or a scripted, fact checked pod. So what? I go elsewhere for that. This is a great place to hear people talk about movies they love, and not be jerks about it. I like to spend time with chuck and his revolving group of very cool guests. Sometimes I disagree with their takes and I still love them anyway. Lots of podcasts out there, if this one doesn’t speak to you then that’s totally fine. I don’t normally write reviews but saw some very troll-like comments and had to speak up. Thanks for the great content.
  • Turdhearder123
    Great Start but...
I really like MC. The concept is great and for a fair bit of time they were really getting some higher profile guests. Which is the obvious point. But for awhile it seems like it’s been a struggle to line up those type of guests. No biggie. Most of the recent guests are good. My main issue when I’m listening is that Chuck spends half the episode talking about the person’s background. That seems a bit unnecessary. And by the time they get to the movie, it feels rushed. The mini crushes are hit or miss for me. I think if they were maybe related to the type of film that was covered right before they would work better. But I do enjoy Chuck and Noels interactions. And Casey is great. Very insightful about the movies he discusses.

    Hit or miss
I love the concept of the show, but it’s very much hit or miss these days. There’s been a real lack of interesting guest/movie discussions for the most part. Seems like it’s mainly a way to get Chuck’s friends and family on the show lately The mini crush episodes could be once a month only and that alone would improve the show so much. They put out so much content, but it’s largely pretty bland and uninteresting. If I wanted to listen to someone read random facebook comments for an hour, I’d go to the facebook group
  • maacosta87
    Dude
Dude. I love stuff you should know so I have been listening to this as well. And I have to say I like it, when you actually stick to the movie at hand. You could also cut the intros in half so I don’t have to skip a minute forward. Other than that I’m still listening.
