Coach 542Thank you for positive focus!I am a retired Middle School Teacher and Coach.. and would like to say Thank you for focusing on the positive side of Virginia Tech Sports…I know there is plenty of negative out there…your dominant focus continues to be on the incredible stories that are just as real as the negative, so it is much appreciated here(Masters in School Conseling at VT, 1999😎

Tessa-SavannahSons of SaturdayI like the variety of podcasts/coverage. The VTech football podcast is too conservative or biased. They are afraid to say anything negative about the program who has fallen of a cliff under Fuente. It’s a joke. If you like cheerleaders, this pod is for you. At least listen to Mike Mcdaniel’s pod on SOS and Locks of Sat.

Alex24060Great VT podcast...But expect overly optimistic opinions. They’ll find the silver lining in a 30+ point loss to Pitt, so they are very creative folks. However, those guys care a lot about VT and put out awesome content. Love listening to them every week!
-
Marina RichieHere for the laughs!Did I go to VT? No. Do I casually follow their sports? Yes! I tune in weekly because Billy Ray, Pat, and Grayson are a ton of fun to listen to! Keep it up guys!
-
Ladycat15Sons of SaturdayThese guys bring it every week! Best Hokie podcast bar none and one of my favorite sports podcast overall.
-
DexGonGivit2YaGreat VT podWell formatted production with keen insight on the Virginia Tech program both current and past. Hard work and prep from Pat is 100% apparent and carries the pod. Good balance between Grayson and Pat with their outlook on program. Grayson is more critical while Pat remains optimistic. Only detriment is Bill’s blinders towards the true issues of program. In summary: Pat brings the juice, Grayson brings the vinegar, and Bill brings the Kool-Aid.

JBev1978TerribleWorst podcast I’ve ever come across. God awful.

Lorenzo LemiseGo-to for Hokies InsightThe sons bring a ton of energy and insight to the microphone each episode. They are able to balance the breakdown of a game from a football (and other sports) perspective with the fans’ and students’ perspectives. Fair and unbiased, as well as unafraid to call out “baseless claims.” The sons keep growing and landing huge guests and continue to be the most informative and entertaining VT sports podcast.
-

ConnorRVASONS OF 5-STAR REVIEWSThe Sons are hands down the best Virginia Tech podcast around. These guys have the scoop, always seem to find the best guests, and essentially update Hokie fans everywhere about everything Virginia Tech. If you’re a Hokie and don’t listen to the Sons, get out of Charlottesville and subscribe 🦃

GW III29-21 3OT win against Marshall in 2013“They call Willie Byrn the paper boy because he always delivers!” Hokies ushered a game-tying drive that included two 4th down conversions. The latter was a miraculous Willie Byrn catch on 4th & goal on a pass that should have been intercepted. Kyshon Jarrett intercepts Rakeem Cato’s pass that would have been a Touchdown in the final minute. The Hokies take the lead in the 3rd OT after LT3 barrels into the end zone. Marshall has one last chance on a 4th & 9, and a perfectly placed Cato pass is dropped and the Hokies win! The crazy game included heavy rains all day, some questionable unis (the helmets are kinda sick tho), and Beamerball (with a blocked punt for a TD and a blocked game-winning FG). This game was absolute bonkers, and I consider it to be one of the most underrated and resilient Hokie victories of all time! Hope you enjoy! -Grant Watson

Robert IrbyUnderrated Hokie Win, As RequestedBy far the most underrated win in VT football history is the 2009 win against Miami. We came into the game 2-1, fresh off the legendary comeback against Nebraska the previous week, as well as a loss to Alabama and a win over Marshall. What people often forget about the Nebraska game is up until that last heroic drive (or two plays, really), Tyrod was having one of his worst games as a Hokie, and our offense was abysmal. Yes, we ended up pulling out the win, but there was little confidence from fans in our offense’s consistency (cue the Stinespring critics). Miami, on the other hand, was ranked #9 with a 2-0 record that included wins over two ranked teams, Florida State and Georgia Tech, to start the season. Miami QB Jacory Harris (remember that guy?) was an early Heisman frontrunner. The entire College GameDay crew picked Miami to win. But Herbstreit, Corso, Desmond, Jacory, and the University of Miami football team did not take into account two things: torrential downpours, and one of Bud Foster’s best defenses. As the rain poured down harder and harder as the game progressed, that stout Hokie defense in All Maroon Everything stomped the Miami offense into the mud, led by Kam Chancellor, Cody Grimm, Jason Worilds, and a host of other Hokie legends. On the offensive end, Stinespring, despite his critics, called one of his best games, using his gritty offensive line and stable of running backs to his advantage. Tyrod only threw 9 passes, one of which was a 48-yard touchdown to Jarrett Boykin. Instead, the Hokies ran for 272 yards, including a combined 225 from Tyrod and Ryan Williams. Williams ran for two scores, and the LPD stuffed every attempt Miami had at getting into the game. The Hokies won in pure dominant fashion, by a score of 31-7. To put the icing on the cake, Beamerball was in full effect, with Jacob Sykes blocking a punt and Matt Reidy picking it up in the end zone to take a 21-0 lead. With the buildup of this game, both with the hype for Miami and negativity surrounding VT, combined with the dominating performance and the pure grit playing in the heavy rain, this is hands down my favorite game as a Hokie fan. The Nebraska win lives in immortality, and deservedly so, but far too many fans sleep on the emphatic performance by the Hokies just one week later.

@VTFanTAusSons of consistency himselfListened to the Pod and y’all said y’all needed some ratings and suggestions for past VT games to go back and review. So I’m coming through like MJ in the clutch (sorry couldn’t help myself I’ve been loving the MJ docs proving who the real GOAT is). Anyways back on point, I’ve got two games that initially come to mind. Both of them involve VT vs FSU and Tyrod Taylor. The first is 2007 VT vs FSU. Tyrod had the 3rd and 31 scramble first down conversion and there two beautiful deep passes that he dropped right in the receivers bread basket. Bobby Bowden saying he thought he’d never see another Mike Vick. Then the other one would be the 2010 ACC championship against FSU. Where Tyrod ripped apart FSU again. Thanks again for what y’all do I absolutely love the pod!

BBranzelle10Taking over Hokies football via PodI have listened to every VT podcast out there. They keep it real, they aren’t too opinionated like others. They touch on everything from football to being a student at Virginia Tech. Also pull HUGE interviews from players, professors, other employees. #SonsOfApplePodTakeover

Buzzketball_325Best content by farThese guys get the best interviews, have great stories, and are genuinely fun to listen to. As a VT alum from 2010, these guys give me a great perspective I can’t get anywhere else. Keep it up Sooooons!
-
Medium RandyGreat show for Hokie FansFun show for insight into VT athletics. The “fired up” enthusiasm can have a bit of a Youth pastor vibe, but the interviews are great and the chemistry is undeniable.
