Faith Matters

1,122

Faith Matters offers an expansive view of the Restored Gospel, thoughtful exploration of big and sometimes thorny questions, and a platform that encourages deeper engagement with our faith and our world. We focus on the Latter-day Saint (Mormon) tradition, but believe we have much to learn from other traditions and fully embrace those of other beliefs.

    Grandchildren
The children of our deceased son and estranged mother to some of them have been coming to Sunday dinner. You have helped me to continue to love them and keep them comfortable:).

    Highly recommend!
I look forward to each new episode. I love how they aren’t afraid to discuss any topic and especially controversial or uncomfortable topics within the church, and they do it in a very constructive, classy, and positive way. So many things that I have struggled with within “church culture”, they have discussed on their show and have given me so much insight and many times been an answer to prayer. They have definitely helped me keep my faith and have helped to strengthen my faith- because of the discussions they are willing to have- which has led me to have a greater desire to seek personal Revelation on topics I wrestle with and to lean into my Savior instead of push him away. I always feel the spirit and feel like they are helping me gain more pieces of the puzzle of life.

Used to be…My church… after church …but no longer
Update: I am so sad to say that I no longer find this podcast interesting. Did I change? Or did you? It feels like you have lost your courage to explore and dig deep in the places and ways you once did. I miss it. I started listening to Faith Matters at the beginning of the pandemic. It saved me then and continues to save me. I have found a home here, where all of my struggles, questions, and realities are validated and I have found a path of hope, joy and light in navigating it all. Thank you for your wonderful work.

Thank You for Stretching My Mind and Strengthening My Faith
This podcast has been life-changing for me. I appreciate having a listening forum that both uplifts and challenges the LDS culture/community. There’s a palpable tension between conscience and LDS practice, cultural traditions and individual perceptions. I love how Tim and Aubrey Chaves explore this tension yet never waver in confirming their faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I’m coming to Faith Matters quite late, that is, I just discovered it this year—2024 so I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. I’ve listened to about 50 podcasts so far. Thank you so much!

Best source of thought provoking material
Been listening to this podcast for a year now and can safely say the producers of this content are bring some of the best guests to discuss relevant and meaningful topics than any other faith affirming podcast that I have heard. It is refreshing to discuss topics like how science can bring us closer to God or how human sexuality can be help us find a deeper connection to God. This podcast has help me broaden my understanding and deepen my appreciation for how my unvarnished mortal experience is bring me closer to God.

I would highly highly recommend the Faith Matters podcast! It’s hosted by a couple of wonderful members who talk about a lot of challenging and interesting topics with guests from our church as well as outside of the church and it has been a huge faith builder and super encouraging for me in my journey. :)

I feel I’ve found my tribe
I’ve spent years(decades) looking and searching for spiritually rich media that speaks to my soul. Most of what I’ve found hasn’t been that great, at least to me. That is until I found this podcast. After finding this podcast and listening to their guests, especially Fiona and Tyrell Givens, I feel like I’ve found my people, my home. I’m very grateful for the work that Faith Matters promotes and wish I could be a part of that work!

    Who is the church for
Thank you for discussing the talks President Nelson and President Oaks gave at the October 2023 general conference about the celestial kingdom. I had the exact same questions and feelings about it as you two did. I was angry after listening to the talks for so many reasons and wished I had someone to talk to about it. You covered so many of the questions and thoughts I had and the conversation was very helpful for me. I especially like Patrick Mason and I feel like he presented lots of ways to think about the subject that made me think more deeply.

    Excellent Podcast
So many podcasts out there, not enough time. But I do make time for the Faith Matters podcast each week. Thank you Tim and Aubrey for the time and energy you put into this project. And just a quick thank you for covering the topic of OCD. Those specific episodes have been helpful for me personally. Thank you!

    Love Faith Matters
Faith matters is such a beautiful, thoughtful, faith promoting and peaceful space for me. I love the conversations they have, the way they illuminate doctrine and truth and the lasting impact their conversations leave on my life and worship. It reminds me of so many of the reasons I love the expansive, inclusive LDS theology and the beauty of it is often lost in the repetition of our week to week worship where we fall into using the same vocabulary and same quotes, etc. I love this podcast and recommend it to everyone I can

    Grounded in one Faith Tradition
I absolutely love this episode of Casper! When he was describing having one faith tradition that people are grounded in, and can kind of call homebase, where it would provide support to children as they learn, and grow at each stage of development, as well as allowing for different spiritual practices and rituals that may be from other faith, traditions and being able to incorporate those into the current scripture and dogma of a faith practice would be the ultimate goal. This is a mission that my wife and I have started on and we also know that not all things have been restored to the Earth during this time of restoration and the spiritual revolution.

    Disagree Better
Another really great episode on your podcast! Learning to disagree better and show respect to opposing ideas is what is so needed right now.

    Favorite podcast
There are many podcasts to choose from but I feel what sets Faith Matters apart is the hosts. Excellent listening skills and thoughtful questions. And I love the diversity of the guests.

    My favorite podcast
I’m such a fan. I’m one that faith comes very easily to. I’m a believer through and through-but I really want to understand why some struggle. This podcast has helped me so much with a broader perspective and helping my testimony grow even stronger. I’m so so grateful that it helps people who feel like outsiders in some way, feel like there are others who feel like they do , and that we actually ALL belong-no matter how we feel. I tell everyone it’s my favorite podcast!! ❤️❤️❤️Stephanie

    My community
I have recently gone through experiences that have pushed me to choose whether I believe in God or not, redefine who God is, my testimony, and what I thought the gospel actually means. I have listened to just 3 podcasts and already I feel like I found my community. There is space to question, seek, find and have real conversations. Thank you so much for this.

    #1 Fan - Thank you!
I am so grateful for Faith Matters podcast. I converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 18 in 1980. Soon after my baptism someone handed me an essay written by Eugene England suggesting that I might enjoy his thinking. Boy, were they correct! Over the years there were times I felt very alone in the Gospel, however extremely strong in my Faith. I would read Eugene’s words and/or listen to one of his public moments and feel a little better, a little less alone. I share this many many years later because at times when listening to FM I am reminded of those lonely moments early in my membership. I am often flooded with gratitude for this community. A community of generous Latter-day Saints, Christ centered thinkers. Thank you! Kandee

Hopeful, Insightful tools for living with faith.
Thanks for your efforts. I have listened to several podcast episodes and we recently bought the book sex educated. The book has been a great way to keep the conversation about sex and intimacy open and progressive with our teenagers. Your efforts to help people live with faith and hope Is encouraging and appreciated. Thank you.

    A space for thoughtful discourse
For me, my faith life has been turbulent the last few years. I have felt less and less at home was I worship with my congregation. I recognize that I am the one who has moved, but going back is not an option. Faith Matters has become one of a few few places where I feel understood. Thank you for providing a faithful but not apologetic space. Thank you for making space for thoughtful questions and for not vilifying doubt.

If you’re a member looking for truth
Stay far far away from this podcast and group! They do not follow the brethren or the doctrine of Christ.

    Hope and healing
I can find so many voices that help me deconstruct my faith, but very few that help me with the reconstruction process, which is the hard part. This podcast does both. It speaks to the worries of my soul while also helping me hold on to the faith I still have and expanding it. The perspectives and experiences shared here have been instrumental in my faith journey. I have found hope, healing, and a community that helps me know I’m not alone in this journey. Thank you Tim and Aubrey for creating such needed a space!

    These are my people!
I’ve struggled for years with deep doubt, questions, and fear. The faith matters foundation and this podcast have literally helped to keep religion alive, real, safe, and beautiful. I am deeply grateful for this work and would recommend for anyone who feels they are on the outside looking in.

    Love this podcast
Faith Matters has been my companion as I have struggled to find a way to stay in my faith community. If you are struggling on the edge of the inside, or feel you have no choice but to leave, this podcast is a must listen. I frequently listen to each episode multiple times, and find new nuggets of wisdom each time I do. Thanks to Tim and Aubrey.

    Insightful
This podcast has been a lifeline for me while navigating deeply troubling issues with my church membership. Thank you so much for sharing insights to counterbalance the errors that are frequently perpetuated in our congregations. A great resource for anyone trying to navigate the contradictions in their faith based spaces.

    My Favorite Podcast
I’ve been a listener for several years, have consumed all of the archive, and I still look forward to every new episode. I come away from each feeling like a better person. I call Tim and Aubrey my “ministering couple,” because they leave me feeling uplifted every time. I know there are many involved in the making of the Faith Matters podcast, and am grateful for all of them.

    My favorite podcast
Just listened to an early resurrection coversation with Adam Miller. It is changing my life - so uplifting and inspiring. But really every episode I have listened to has made me a better person. I love that it helps me stretch my thinking and approach God and my religion in a more vulnerable, honest way. You are doing great work. Bless you!

Feels like I found my people
For years I’ve felt a too radical for conservative Mormon culture and too faithful for many other people. This podcast feels like I found the people that make me excited to continue worshiping the way I do. Listening to these intelligent, insightful, loving discussions makes me so excited for the potential of this church’s future
